  1. It all depends on where and when you are hunting. State land you are limited to what you can use and your age. I think a raised blind is the best of both worlds , mostly when you get fasteddie , SOB and my age.
  2. I do not think you can go by brand name any more, I have one as mentioned above, trophy cam after 8 months the picture quality died, no more colored day time pictures, just red tinted ones.I have a Moultrie at the same price range that has been out for a year straight with one new set of regular AA batteries and takes great colored day time pictures and good night time pictures.Picture Quality depends on the direction the cam is facing ( as not into the sun ) trim all grases and young branches that move in the wind near the cam. Niether has been affected by the rain and or snow.
  3. Around this time of the year my mother would drop me off at my grandmothers house on her way to work, grandma knew this and there would be big pots of flower yeast and other ingridents lined up on a table. My job would be mixing and needing the dough for the Paczki , Babka , Chruscki and other pasteries for the holidays. Grandma had 8 children so you could imagine the amount needed for all of my uncles, ants and cousins.
  4. Go to a store and pick a few bows off of the shelf 30 - 50 pound draw weight at your length of draw, For get that Matcho C***P that I can draw a 75 lb. bow , Now try holding each weight at full draw for 1 minute ( if you ever have a 10 point buck standing behind a tree ) you will know why I am saying to hold it for that amount of time and see which you can hold and then release after that amount of time. As SOB and I are the same age I also shoot carbon arrows 30 inches long with broadheads and real feather fletching with waterproofing on them. Hint: forget shooting groups ( it cost $ ) get a target with 5 or more circles on it try shooting one arrow in each circle.
  5. If a new stock is not inletted exactly for your firearm it can make it shoot worst then it does now.as the receiver too tight in one spot and too loose in another, the barrel channel too tight . Glass bedding and or pillar bedding is time consuming to do it right ( there are many vid's ) on how to do it. The cost of a pro doing it can run anywhere from $100.00 to $ 300.00
  6. Bears 600 pounds + are not un common in New York , I have seen some and let them pass by , one has been shot down the road from me in a corn field.
  7. Hmm, what about the special season in Jan. on L.I. ( shotgun and Muzzy.)
  8. Have not seen any 4 point bucks but saw a nice 6 point and an 8 point in 4P last 2 weeks.
  9. Cograts on your first deer, I also had the hlde tanned from my first one .
  10. Should be a 1 buck per. person in NYS. Many want more just for bragging rights.
  11. Sounds like a pot sturrer has nothing else to do but sturr up bull s**t.
  12. X2 look at your permit it has State of New York and below that the county you applied for it. When I moved , I went to the local count office ( Delaware ) for the pistol permit with all of my L.I. paper work They took down or copied that info and gave me the proper forms to fill out with reference paperwork and sent me to the local police station and they took my finger prints.A week or 2 later the called me up to take a picture , stapled it to the permit signed by the local judge and took my pistol serial numbers and put that on the permit and handed it to me. Now it might take a day or 2 longer because they are laminated.
  13. You have to apply for a permit in the county you will move to , as the State police said.I did in Delaware county. That county police takes your finger prints. You have to get people that live in the count to fill out a reference form. Then they transfer the info from your un expired L.I. permit.
  14. It an't over till it's over and here is still some time left. I know how you feel , I have been passing up on the young bucks and 1-1/2 year old does and there new born this year also , wating for grand Ma and Paw to show up , hope they do in the next week. or so.
  15. Heard some kids talking a few years ago and one was telling the other how his father was teaching him (barely a teen ) how to poach deer.
  16. X2 , Hunted with someone that was a Buck magnet, where ever we went to hunt he would have a buck walk up to him. Hang in there your luck might change. Ever hear the song Night Moves that is what is going on by me now, Pictures on every cam at Night , does and bucks. See very few during the day.
  17. Now that I hunt my own land most of the time , I use my atv to get to my spots ( drive right up to the spot ) and park it. As in the past it does not bother the deer , mot of the time the just stand there and watch you go by. I changed using regular pump gas to Non ethonole gas,( It smells almost like VP racing fuel ) It still does not scare them away.
  18. When we hunted state lands and slept in our trucks the night before hunting on the state land we filled up our tanks. We drove to the designated parking spots ( gas fumes and the noise getting there ) We cooked our backon and eggs or what ever and made a fresh pot of coffee also at the parking spot. Most of the time wearing our hunting pants and coats,And headed into the woods , Most years we would get our buck and a doe if we got a permit for one. No sent sprays, sent control clothes and rubber boot the most uncomfortable foot wear to wear when in the mountians hunting. Took a part of a roll of toilet paper wit you after you let your breakfast out and took a wizz from the beers the night before in the woods. As they say a bear s****s in the woods doesent it. Just played the wind
  19. There was quite a few ( 9 or 10 )that got loose from the property where they were housed a few years ago near me, they had all sorts of groups out trying to capture them which most were but at the end a few had to be shot after a few weeks..
  20. Snow Camo. Look for areas with pine, hemlocks and spruce, they like to bed down in them in this weather, Look for tracks.Keep at it dont give up yet.
  21. Put a 2" x 2" piece of wood floor to inside top in the center of my Baronett .350 just before it snowed, it is standing up just fine with all of the snow and sleet we had the last few days.
  22. X2 , been using balloons over the end of the barrels too.
  23. I have seen this and they just do not give a hoot, lic. or not , they were brought up that way and in there mind there is nothing wrong with it. They say just puttin food on the table, as they are rolling there next hit.
  24. Congrats a nice deer and a great end to the post,
