  1. I have a side arm on me most of the time when I an out in the woods ( Boonies ) where I live and I have my dog with me most of the time. There are a few furbearers runining around with the Mange , I see them they are down.If you are turkey hunting with a Bow , No firearms are allowed.( do not agree with that ) but that is the way it is. Hope every thing turns out OK and you get one of the 10" bearded ones.
  2. What can be done?. It is not your property. If they fool with your camera, As said above is the property posted.Does the land owner have to file a complaint ?.
  3. Better take some warm water proof gear, calling for temps. in the 30's and a chance of rain in the morning. Good luck too all.
  4. Did anybody loose any bird feeders to a bear yet ?. The get me every year at this time.
  5. I mounted one cam way off of but facing a well used trail around 4' off of the ground for the whole hunting season last year, many pictures of does and bucks not one even looked in the direction of the cam , day or night and no sent sprays. In fact I had a few shots of a fawn and it's mom look at the cam and bed down right along he side that tree for quite some time that day. They might be deer tat are use to the cams. on the property and there odor.Another spot I had a cam. set up 4' off of the ground and had many shots of bucks bedded down for quite some time on a number of days , some as close as 4' away from the cam.. I mount all of my cams. facing away from the sun. That might have something to do wit it.
  6. Planting trees and bushes as mentioned in the vid. does help , every hemlock , ceader and pine tree have been eaten 4' to 5' from the ground on my property this past winter, hinge cutting some trees that I intended to cut up for fire wood also helped.A good thing is that my neighbor planted a large amount of he trees in the vid. 35 years ago. it is there safe haven the bad weather. The little guys and gals that bed and go threw my property made it threw the winter , they were very thin compared to the fall ,but they made it threw. I would think feeding them in a bad winter that we had might help but only in moderation not as a 5 gal. bucket of feed at a time ( depending on the amount of deer ) and only feed that they can digest. But how do you get to where they are held up with 3' or more of snow on the ground.
  7. It all depends what is you are going to use, as a shotgun just about anything , with a bow you want something a little taller , if you are going to stand up and fire.I have Barnett 350 , fits 2 people easy and is 80 " hiegh.Zippers on the outer window cover and on the screen and they open up pretty big.
  8. For years where we hunted State or Co Op land there were NYS Rangers, ECON and other officers checking deer,Main highways had road blocks, if you did not stop and pull in there was a State trooper down the road ready to pull you over. We always stopped on the way home. They would weigh and age the deer and look for sighs of bad meat. Always had a good time chatting with other hunters about there take. But I guess them days are gone. Around me the regular deer butchers are visited almost every day by an ECON officer or other state officer, checking tags on the deer.So I think they still have a good idea what is going on.
  9. .22 or .22 mag. works just fine here.At times my .410 also.

    Snow

1/10 of an inch here on the ground and 27 degrees.
  11. I have both an ATV and a compact tractor. The atv I bought to move my old body around and use to tow my 2 wheel trailer that has carried 6 to 8 pieces of 2 foot dia. x 2foot long pieces of oak.and a lot of stone for retaning walls ect.The tractor is used to put the big logs in and out of the trailer , 2' dia. oak is not that light.I have built many retaining walls out of stone on the property, many of the pieces are 3' to 4' oblong shapes by 6"" t0 8" thick ( used for bases ) then smaller 2' x 2" thick for the walls. I have up rooted at least 100 2" to 6" dia. trunked trees in the spring time of the year with it and dug or pulled out root balls on larger trees. And this winter used it many timed to move snow piles around. So if you have a good amount of property they both come in handy. If I were to have a choice between an ATV or UTV I would buy a UTV., too many pluses.

    Changes?

Started out in the 1950's with a five and dime store bought bow and arrows, later on bought a shot gun and then a rifle and a MZ loader, hunted mostly state lands and some private for birds , fur bearers and deer , filled our bag just about everything.Fished most of my life also. Moved to where I am now when I retired as they say ( In the boonies ) Now just hunt my own property.I can now just walk out the door when I want and go to one of the many spots I have set up with natural blinds or have ground blinds set up.No more tree stands for me either. Bought a crossbow this past year because of the old body parts failing,We will see how we do wit it this coming year.I have become selective on the age group of the deer that we will take a shot at. I have let many pass the last few years,so the Quality of the deer has improved.. And do not have the attitude that I have to shoot one every year.During the spring and summer I do a lot of clearing of trees and brush and replace them with grasses or other plants to keep the wildlife around. And it is paying off because I have just about every type that is in the area walking around the house and property every day.
  13. The fog we have this morning is bringing the wildlife out,We had about 10 turkeys right outside the window this morning, with one strutting around. The tree tops from the tree I cut down the other day had deer munching on them again.
  14. Started to boil the little that I collected this year ,just enough for my self this year. It browned up fast the sugar content is up there this year l.
  15. As the catskillkid said hire or rent a Big tractor with ripper teeth on the plow or bucket, you will save a lot of money in the future on repairs of equiptment in the future.and the ground will be a lot easier to work., Been there and should have done that.
  16. Last frost date by me is May 30 th. It was 29 degrees by me last night and going to be 30 degrees over the weekend at night. So I did not start anything, even seed inside ,Been there done that and lost everything in the past.Might start the seeds indoors middle of May.. Some plants in the past I started indoors and some seeded direct into the garden at the end One did not do any better then the other. Too busy cutting splitting and stacking next years fire wood any way.
  17. An older(now gone ) friend of mine had one in 30-06 and killed many a deer and bear with his no problems at all.
  18. I shoot left handed and had done it for 60 years ( it's an eye thing ) I have and had 3 left handed rifles in my life ( 3 different brand names) and find shooting a right handed rifle easier than a left handed rifle. More so with a bolt action.
  19. They grow them big in the western part of the state, Hmm, I have one half that size that trims my lawn every morning and night , no other damage from it and it's young ones.Haven't seen it yet this year, hope the rabid fox did not get it.
  20. I have used the Scott brand release for around 10 years or more with out any problems. I also have a string loop on all of my bows. The bow should be set up at a pro shop if you were to use each of them. Just a release or a release and a loop will change the position of your hand at full draw. A wrist strap is good because the release is always on your hand ready to use. They come in different lengths also.
  21. Can't do squat by me either tyhe ground was frozen, then it got to be brown now it is white again. The mud season started and left quick..
  22. Had them for 50 years they come and go , Have no problem with them.My eye glass Dr. said not worth doing anything.
  23. X2 I dug one 4' to 10' deep, Spring fed ,Guess what the water runs out as fast as it goes in. Had another one dug at he bottom of a hill , Guess what we had very heavy rain after that it started out 10' deep and now is 4' deep . It filled up with silt that was brought down from the heavy run off from the hill . We even built a berm or bank on the side that the hill is , the water and silt washed right over it. Do a lot of planing first.

Many years ago during the winter while in the local archery shop that had a 30 yard range a young lady came in who came from Greece was looking for a target bow all set up,She was with her uncle that lived here. They had one in stock. If I remember it was the length of a Long Bow.
