  1. That recall has been ongoing for years. Not sure why his brother is just finding out about it now. I think they recalled all 2005-2009s if my memory serves me right.
  2. Trust me, I am no fan of GM. I think GM is a terrible company that should of been allowed to go bankrupt years ago. In my eyes they've been a sub par company since the beginning. You'll never catch me giving a penny of my hard earned money to GM. I don't think panels rotting out in 3-4 years is good on any brand. But it's a fact of life for us in salt areas. Move to a different state and we'd never even be having this convo. But now Ford is using aluminum body panels so rusting panels may be a thing of the past, time will tell
  3. Not a very accurate statement there. Your seeing body panels rotting out on GMs and Ford. Their frames aren't rotting out for the most part. Toyota recalled all those trucks for rotted frames that would break in half. I'd rather have a rotted rocker panel than my frame rotting right out. The frame is a major safety issue. Rotten body panels don't cause any safety issues, therefore the manufacturer isn't going to do anything about it. If fords and GMs had frames rotting out all over the place, you'd see them recalling just like Toyota.
  4. Well at least they aren't like GM who ignores and hides faulty equipment that leads to people getting killed.....
  5. Buy the best Wilson product you can afford. Those things work really well. I had one at my last house and it took us from 1 bar of service or none at all to 3-4 bars of constant signal anywhere within 100ft of the amplifier. I don't remember the model number we had. I think I still have it in the garage actually. I'm missing the antenna part of it because I was in a rush on move out day that I didn't feel like climbing up on the roof to unhook it. To get the best performance, your absolutely gonna want a model that has a exterior antenna. They are easy to mount up on your roof. I mounted mine around a 2 inch pvc bathroom vent pipe. Most houses should have some sort of vent somewhere on the roof that you can attach the antenna to. From the antenna you'll have a coax cable down into the house (I drilled a hole in the side of the house and ran the wire inside) to the amplifier. Another little antenna thingy plugs into the amp which broadcasts the signal around your house and such. Overall my Wilson unit worked great and I'm thinking of buying a new antenna for it so I can hook it up at my new house just to improve signal a bit in the garage.
  6. I'll take as many hens as allowed in the fall. Didn't they drop it to one bird in the fall now? The last year we had out camp in oneonta I plugged 2 fat hens in the fall. Scattered the flock and called them back in. It was awesome. Hens taste just as good as toms! Your right about managing like deer. You see too many hens in a flock, take a few out. Don't see to many, then don't take any. Pretty simple lol
  7. I have the same thoughts. Usually harder to sneak up on a big group with a bunch of hens. Gobbler is distracted but the hens are always spread out and on the look out. Can't count how many times I've had a hen that I didn't know was there catch me and take the whole flock with her.
  8. Numbers looking good in Albany/Greene county. Been seeing and hearing birds all over the place. I think the hen to tom ratio is a little out of whack at the moment though. I've seen flocks of 30 birds and 2 or 3 of them are toms. Years ago I remember there being a lot more toms to the amount of hens. Makes hunting more difficult since it's harder to pull those toms away from the hens. I guess I'll just be happy the general population numbers are back on the rise for now.
  9. Same here!! Ol jackie impersonator called me up back in the fall looking for like $132 or some crap. What a bunch of BS that buckmasters thing is. Last fall was the 2nd time they've called me in the last 2 years and before that they called my wife once. But I mostly don't answer numbers I don't know. Only have a cell phone so I don't get too many but it's usually a couple calls a week.
  10. Ph test that area for sure. Like mentioned, your probably going to find your Ph is low judging by the ferns and pines in the area. Cut down more trees if you can to open up more light. Clear the surface of all vegetation and debris and get the surface scratched up somehow either by hand with a rake or machine. If your soils are less than ideal, I'd probably plant something like buckwheat that will grow fast and choke out the weeds that are sure to grow like crazy your first year. If your not going to plant this spring, I'd work on getting it tilled up and do 2-3 glysophate sprayings over the summer to keep the weeds and grasses dead and then plant a cereal grain/clover mix come mid august.
  11. 6 stands and 10 cameras last year on 40 acres. Acreage has gone up to almost 80 recently so I'll be adding a few more stands to the mix this year. Probably pick up 4 new stands. Thinking 2 double man stands and 2 lock ons. Maybe pass on the lock ons for this year and build a nice elevated box blind for the field instead. Will see how much time I have over the summer to accomplish that.
  12. I can personally attest to the raptors awesome jumping skills! My sister bought one when they first came out. I beat the snot out of that thing on a couple occasions. We launched it off a few jumps, nothing like what that dummy did in the video, but more than you'd ever do in a normal truck. The speed you can carry down rough roads and trails is sweet. Don't hardly feel a thing with those shocks!
  13. Well we tried like hell! Had birds again this morning gobbling all around us. They must all have plenty of hens with them because I couldn't pull any of them away. Very responsive to my calls but not much commitment. After chasing some birds around behind my house until 9 we headed back to the state land to see if anything over there would gobble. Second place we stopped we struck one up. Quickly got ready and headed up the path when not 50 yards in the gobbler was coming right down the path to us and spotted us, spooked and took off. What a bummer that was!! He was at least 200+ yards away when he first gobbled, he bumrushed us and ran straight down the hill to us. Must of lost his hens and was anxious to find them. All in all it was an awesome weekend and I'm glad I could take Mark and his son along and get them on some action, even if we lacked the final pull of the trigger. The excitement from youngsters when gobblers are screaming at us just 50 yards away is just awesome to see!! Makes me extremely happy to help get a kid introduced to turkey hunting. Those guys have an open invite back anytime they want to do some hunting, and hope to see them again in a few weeks to try again at getting Miles his first turkey.
  14. Congrats! Sounds like a awesome hunt! I love it when the kids knock em dead!
  15. Man we were so close!!!! Walked up in nice and early and spooked one out of the tree on the edge of the small field we setup in. It was well before light when we kicked the one out of the tree. Around first light they started gobbling all over the place. It was great to hear so much gobbling. As it got lighter and they flew down, they went silent. Really cloudy here and a bit of a chill in the air so I'm not surprised by them doing that. After making a move and getting one to gobble again the chase was on. He moved off down the hill towards my truck. J-marks son was getting a bit cold at this point so we were about to call it a morning, but when we got to my truck the turkeys were all in the road about 80 yards down the road! We decided to hop in the truck and go up past them and then jump in the woods and see if we could call them in. Got parked a 1/4 mile or so up and quick walked 100 yards down in when I hit the slate call and two gobblers light right up 100 yards away or so. Scrambled to get setup quick and hit the calls. Worked them right in and had a few of the hens come within 20 yards and walk right on past us. I figured, awesome, the gobblers will follow the hens right up to us. Nope. They hung up 60-80 yards out with a few more hens and gobbled their heads off and strutted around for a good 20 mins or so. The the other hens walked off finally and the gobblers stayed and began to work towards us. They got to maybe 40 yards out and stopped. It was ALMOST in gun range for Marks son to take a shot, but just a bit too much brush to get a clean shot. Those birds needed to move 10 more feet closer on the other side of the saplings and we would of had a bird down right now. They strutted around for a bit and eventually worked their way out of sight and disappeared silently. Man was it a close one! Great action though and I'm glad Mark and his son got to see it and hear it. We will be back at it tomorrow morning! Thinking we will try sitting in the ground blind I set up behind my house. Hoping tomorrow's nicer weather will bring us some better luck! Congrats to everyone who killed today and good luck to everyone else tomorrow!
  16. Well that was quick.....alarm set for 305. Already up at 249 lol. Out in the garage now going over everything to make sure I'm not forgetting something. Picking J-Mark and his son up at a local Inn down in town at 4. Coffees at cumbys then off to the state lands for the first morning. Hoping his son gets to hear a bunch of gobblers wake up and make the woods thunder with gobbles! Good luck out there today everyone! Be safe and tell those kids to shoot straight!
  17. Looked at vests at field and stream today. Didn't like any enough to pay the money they wanted for it. Found this other thing though. It's made by HS strut http://www.hunterspec.com/product/undertaker-chest-pack Decided to give it a try.
  18. In the end, it really doesn't matter! I don't like loans and debt anymore than the next guy. But we're all gonna be 6ft under someday, might as well spend it, and enjoy it.
  19. Very nice. You'll like that Zone lift. They make nice stuff. My sister has a 2014 Ram 1500 with that same lift. Rides nice. Wife and I have been talking new trucks the last few days and I think we might try and get two new trucks instead of just one for her. Thinking of trading in my 2011 crew cab for a 2017 reg cab and get her a 2017 crew cab. Was running some numbers last night at work and the payment difference is extremely minimal compared to what we pay now for my truck and her SUV. I don't need a 4 door to go to work everyday, and I've always loved a reg cab truck with nice wheels and a small lift[emoji51]. Better mpg will be nice for the commute as well. And when I need 4 doors, I still have one next parking spot over in the driveway! Lol Gonna find out in a few weeks how much local dealers will wheel and deal with me if I buy two trucks at once.
  20. Ya, 9mpg is the type of terrible mileage they are known to get lol. To me, that kinda mileage is totally unacceptable in 2017 and for the price they charge for the truck. Toyota should of updated that engine years ago to address this issue. 13-15 on 35s isn't bad. That's typical of a gasser with bigger tires. I want to lift mine and get bigger tires but I don't think I want the mileage hit. 33s are a good mix for light off road and driving to work everyday. Miss my Cummins, 35s and still got 18-20mpg. Old powerstroke 7.3 got 16mpg highway on 37s.
  21. The tundra fuel mileage is pretty bad as well as the interiors. They are pretty good motors with a decent reliability. But man do they suck down fuel. I had a Titan and thought that thing was bad, I've had 3 different buddies get tundras and get rid of them within a year for the terrible mileage. That 5.7 does run good, she's just thirsty. The tundras won't tow as much as other brands and they are priced really high for what capabilities you get. People have mentioned resale value on tundras being good, but I don't think that's the case anymore. The tacomas hold their value better than anything I've ever seen, but the tundras I've seen for sale lately are much cheaper than a Ford of comparable year and mileage
  22. Birds were silent last night at bedtime. But it was raining and getting harder by the min. I watched a gobbler and 2 hens walk a 1/4 mile down the road almost right to my truck before turning into the woods headed to the pines I figured they've been sleeping in. They sure are close to the road. Saturday morning will be a short walk in that's for sure! Haha
  23. Moog I'm on your side with this one. They are awesome. If I had a cap I'd get one in a heartbeat. But I put my quad in the bed too much to get a cap put on.
  24. I never figured anyone truly cared what I thought. But I find it irritating when people spread false information around because they don't do their due diligence to bring facts to the table to have a intelligent convo. The OP wanted a comparison and opinions. Trying to give him those, but with actual facts, not just opinions.
  25. Lol and what's your point? https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.forbes.com/sites/joannmuller/2016/04/12/in-crash-tests-fords-aluminum-f-150-is-the-safest-pickup/amp/ So the highest crash test rating just doesn't count because it's aluminum? The picture you posted is the overlap test. Ford being the only manufacturer to get a acceptable score on it. Every other truck brand got marginal at best. Regardless of anyone's feeling on steel vs aluminum, there's no disputing who makes the safest trucks based solely on factual data
