  1. Got the field brush hogged today! Going to turn it over with a 2 bottom plow soon. Can't wait to get seed in the dirt!
  2. Lime is good anytime. Ya it takes awhile to work in, but you have to start sometime. Get it down as soon as you can and as much as you can. I do the same thing, I usually grab 10 bags or so at a time and spread it out. Whenever I get time again, I grab some more bags. I'm lucky to have decent soil so I haven't needed much lime at all. But that's really rare in most of NY.
  3. Trail cam pros review wasn't to great on them. The pro 12 is a better cam I think they said. But for $50 I think that's worth it for any downfalls they have.
  4. 100 million according to a few sites I looked on. Add Barnett crossbows to the list too. And 55k acres is just a hair shy of 86 sq miles. And your right, he will just be hunting abroad for a couple years. The perks of being rich.....
  5. Being a former guide that has taken tv shows out, what those guides told you is spot on. They edited in scenes from totally different states and everything. Even after they shot a buck, they had to film the guy using some of his sponsors products and then edited in to make it look like that's what brought the buck in. When in reality, we put him in a good spot and the buck walked in 30 mins after arrival. The best part was one night while the tv guys were in, they received a package with tape from another "pro staffer" of a "elk hunt" in Canada. The tv guys put it on the big screen tv in the lodge and they let me watch the raw footage with them. The pro staffer was a teenage girl who's daddy has mega money and lots of connections. They were hunting a high fence elk ranch in Canada. It was hard to watch as they drove up to within 75 yards of a herd of about 100 elk with gigantic bulls only a high fence could produce all over the place. They even had number tags in their ears, it was that pathetic. The girl, her dad and two "guides" and a camera man get out of the truck and "stalk" as they called it up to 40 yards of this herd. They are all whispering and acting like they are stalking down dangerous game. The cameraman is even dropping the camera as low as he can so it kinda looked like they were sneaking through tall grass all stealthy like, when it reality the grass was barely waist high and they weren't even crouching. So they get up to 40 yards and the girl shoots this massive elk with a crossbow, and then erupts the cheering like she just scored the winning touchdown at the Super Bowl. It was probably one of the hardest things to ever have to watch. Even the main guy of the tv show who was with me was disgusted in it. He's like "come on with the tags in the ears, really!!!??" He was supposedly led to believe it was a legit elk hunt and didn't know it was gonna be like that. I don't think they ever aired the episode because it was that pathetic lol.
  6. Never liked that guy. The only one of that family that seems alright is Matt. I've seen quite a few videos of him missing animals, so he's a really poor shot. All that trouble for a stupid 10 min portion of a 30 min episode. The funny part is that if he didn't have a camera rolling, he might of gotten away with it. Guess that camera is a double edged sword isn't ol billy boy. Their products suck majorly too, glad I don't support this idiot by buying their stuff.
  7. 190 incher. Shot by the inventor of rage broadheads. A few others I had on my trail cams. First one I had my dad on top of during mid November, he had him chasing a doe around his tree for 15 mins and couldn't get him to stop for a shot. Then a guy during gun season took 3 shots at him at 100 yards and that was the last time he was ever seen that year. 2nd pic is a buck I had a guy on for 10 days, and the buck didn't show. The day after the guy left, I got this picture of him 10 yards from the stand. And here's a 146 one of my guys killed
  8. Ya my buddy Jonah lives in Illinois, met him while I guided in Pike County.
  9. My buddy Jonah white, inventor of billy bob teeth has all sorts of wild pets. Bear, wolf, skunk and last I spoke to him he was getting a zebra lol. He had a bobcat for a little while, but it became very aggressive with him and his kids so it had to go. It actually busted through the ceiling of his kids bedroom above the bunk bed and was hiding up in there snarling and trying to bite everyone who tried getting him out. I think he has the videos on FB of that haha. My old high school biology teacher had a pet wolf. Big fenced in enclosure in his back yard, not sure why he had him.
  10. I looked into a bit not to long ago. From what I found, there's two permit types. One for keeping pet deer and the other for keeping deer to sell. The first permit is like $100 the other was $200 I believe. There are some pen size and acreage size guidelines, which is to be expected. Fence height I think it 9 or 10ft, something like that. But from everything I found, it's quite easy to own pet deer
  11. As long as you pay the small permit fee, you really don't need a good reason to keep deer. Other than following the rules on pen size and fence height, pay the permit and your good to go
  12. My neighbor has a pond I can toss it in. I don't know anything about those type of fish, will it survive in a farm pond with bluegill and bass and such in there?
  13. Wow that's awesome! I'd kill for a NY drop tine! Hope he sticks around and you get a shot at him this fall!
  14. Wish they would get this passed. Dove tastes so dang good!
  15. Clover is usually a slow grower. The second year it grows the best. My clover/chicory plot from last year took a beating from last summers drought and this springs flooding, but what did survive has come in thick and tall as hell. Its a small circle plot that I'm planning on weed whacking to mow it down a bit as there are a few weeds poking through. The clover and chicory I frost seeded this early spring has come in very nicely. I'm a bit surprised at how much it's growing. I actually mowed it 2 weeks ago to cut down the weeds that started to get a bit out of control. Seems to have done the trick as the clover and chicory have hit a growth spurt and thickened up. I'll try to remember to take a picture tomorrow.
  16. I say go for it! Little ponds are awesome! My neighbor has one in between his house and mine that's about an acre in size I'd say. Maybe a little less, idk I'm terrible at judging. Either way, its pretty deep on one end and tapers up to shallow on the other end. Neighbor told me when they dug it 20 years ago, they had the excavator as deep as it would reach, which was 24ft. Pond was just a big straight wall hole for 15 years until our other neighbor dug it out bigger and added the taper up on the one side. It's loaded with bluegill and bass. He said they dumped a lot of bass in there over the years but haven't done any in the last couple years. I plan on buying some more bass eventually to stock it back up. Took the kids over there Sunday evening just before dark and they hammered the bluegills with their worm and bobber setups. They were catching them so fast I couldn't keep up with them! Went through an entire cup of worms haha. The kids love it and I'm sure glad we have access to such a great little pond. When I buy the land out behind me, I plan to build a pond of my own. Mostly due to excess water that I need to move away from my house and a pond would be a great place for it. But I'd love to have my own little fishing hole for the kids. Here's one pic of Sunday's fun. Have a ton more, Photobucket is on the fritz though.
  17. Got my Father's Day gift a day early. Wife and boys took me down to the local dealer to pick out a new chain saw. After that wife and kids went to her parents for the day to visit her dad while I stayed home and a buddy came over to help me put my new saw to work blazing a trail across the property I got permission on recently. Took us quite awhile to blaze the way but it's going to open up a lot more hunting access for us. New saw ran awesome, I love Stihl products. Happy Father's Day all! Also got a nice bear on camera! (Time-date way off)
  18. It's a measure of your ability to hold out. It gets extremely boring and hard to sit still after 5-6 hours. Not to mention you get colder much faster, you get stiff and tired. Your mind and eyes play tricks on you after awhile. It's a huge physiological drain. This is like listening to idiots say driving 18 wheelers is easy because "all you do is sit there". I'm a very capable person who can do just about anything I set my mind to, but sitting as still as possible for entire days is a major challenge for everyone I've ever met. If you don't think so, your lying to yourself. And no one ever said stand hunting was a "requirement". Last I checked there wasn't such a thing in hunting. Everyone has their own style and way of doing things. Not sure when that all of a sudden became a problem and ammo for people to flame others as being "unworthy" hunters. Does it make you an unworthy hunter compared to me because I have been to guide school and worked as a guide? If we wanted to get technical, I'm professionally trained, your not, but that still doesn't make me think anyones personal preferred style of hunting is wrong or unworthy of the cause. When I was in school we practiced and studied hundreds of different hunting methods, and never once did the instructors tell us one way or another made you a better hunter or more worthy of being called one. This whole thread has turned into a childish "I'm better than you" game.
  19. I have some high doubts it's a mountain lion in that pic. But I have no doubts there are some around. Chatted with a state trooper back in turkey season at the Cumberland farms in my town getting a cup of coffee and he was telling me to be careful out there (was dressed in my turkey hunting camo) I said whys that? He says he has seen a mountain lion 2 times in the last month and a few other troopers supposedly seen them also. He went on to tell me all about this cat that leaped across the road in front of him and swore up and down that he knows it's a mountain lion. I said thanks for the heads up and for him to be careful on the job. No idea if his stories are true but it's just another supposed sighting to add to the list.
  20. Now bow hunting is unethical? O god here we go... I'd like to see you sit in a stand from dark to dark for weeks on end. Let's so who has more internal drive to seal the deal. Sitting in a tree for hours on end is the hardest thing for me to do. But it's the only way your going to shoot big whitetails with a higher success rate average. I could out walk just about anyone in the hills, but that's not going to get me a big buck where I live.
  21. If they work anything like every camera they've made in the last several years, there's gonna be some pissed off people out there. But the idea behind it is cool. Depending on price, and if they actually work well, I'll be very interested.
  22. O and rattler. If you believe that our government doesn't participate in what you would call unjustified murder, you really need to pull your head from the sand. We have the CIA around for a reason. The secrets we hold and the people of power that our government agencies remove from power for our own self interests is going on every day. We finance coups, and support groups that side with us. Maybe our troops are not rounding up people to execute, but you better bet your bottom dollar we pay for a lot of that to happen all over the world. I love this country and what we stand for. But I am not a fool and know there is plenty of dirty work that needs to be done that the public doesn't want to know about or hear about. We outlaw advanced interrogation tactics on US soil, no biggie, we just transport the prisoners to another country and do whatever the hell we need to do. Just so our politicians can save face here and home and tell you how wonderful and nice we are.
  23. Did you have a point in any of those responses? I never disputed the reasoning behind the things we've done, just reminded someone above that we have used some down right harsh tactics and weapons to stop an enemy. The issue brought up was that we supposedly don't participate in such acts, which is a lie. We have and we will continue to do so to protect our soldiers and citizens. As far as the Indians and all that go...your missing the point completely. The pilgrims initial intentions mean absolutely nothing. It doesn't negate the fact of what we did. I don't blame the Indians for fighting back and trying to wipe us out. We were seen as foreign invaders. But we did what needed to be done to begin a new country and civilization. To say that we are innocent just because the Indians started the fight is a bunch of bologna.
  24. Never said I was ok with Doing anything because war wasn't declared. I was filling you in on how the Geneva convention actually works. It holds no water unless war is declared, wasn't an opinion, just a fact. Let me clarify. I am absolutely for us doing anything we need to do to win against enemy combatants. That is not saying blow up schools full of children. I'm talking against military personnel. If we have to blow them up, burn them, poison them, i don't really care what it is. We fight to win and sometimes it's going to take drastic measures. You brought up the Geneva convention saying that it is what the rules are during battle. Which is false. The Geneva convention has nothing to do with how we kill our enemies. It has everything to do with how we treat prisoners, wounded, civilians and everything else not display hostile intentions during war time. I am all for the Geneva convention and its purposes. While I may believe that fighting isn't fair and we should do what we have to do to win, when the dust settles and the battle is over, there is no reason for brutality against anyone. Which is the purpose of the Geneva convention.
  25. Last I checked the Geneva convention has absolutely nothing to do with fighting fair or defining how we fight. It outlines how prisoners, civilians, injured soldiers and others are treated when not acting in hostile manners. It also only applies during a legit "war". So if war is not technically declared, it doesn't apply. I think you might need to freshen up on history. We have fought wars using nasty and probably what you would call "savage", tactics. How many japs did our marines burn to death in those caves and tunnels? How about those napalm drops in Vietnam? War is nasty and no one is fighting fair, everyone fights to win. To get Japan to surrender we slaughtered around 200 thousand of their non combatant civilians for petes sake. I'm not sure where you get off saying we as Americans are innocent. If you add up how many people we've killed in all our wars, I'd bet you'd find us at the top of the list or damn well near it. And let's not forget how we built this country by slaughtering the Indians and taking their land. It's funny how everyone forgets our savage history and likes to think because we are such a rich and well rounded country that we must be better than everyone and do no wrong.
