  1. Now there is a most interesting point. So we can't trust priests, teachers, baby sitters, summer camp counselors, etc., with our kids and you guys think a parent is going to trust their kid with someone just because they claim to be a sportsman?? Unless this person is very, VERY well known by the parent or parents of this kid, having strangers mentoring their kids on hunting trips is not likely to happen very often in todays world.
  2. Bruce Wayne was originally a Romney supporter. He switched to Obama after hearing one too many lies from Romney. Wasn't exactly one lie either, but something like 347 of them. Batman may like his fellow rich folks, but he can't stand two faced liars!!
  3. Doe, you forgot Aquaman. He will attack from the water, while the others attack from the air on the blackhawk choppers. Superman of course can fly in on his own.
  4. I honestly believe we could get these same handful of recruits without the special season. If we have a kid who really wants to hunt, and an adult who really wants to mentor it will happen WITHOUT a youth season. If you have a kid and adult who are wishy-washy about it all, most likely NOTHING will come out of it. After all, we have to realize that any kid interested in hunting will most likely not be going out all on their own. Might have happened years ago, but not often these days. I do think there are kids out there who would want to hunt, but don't have adults around willing to take them. I really don't see things improving with this youth hunt. Not like a kid can pick up a phone and call a toll-free number to get hooked up with a mentor here. So those who have a mentor would get a chance to be introduced to hunting with or without a youth season, while those without a mentor are pretty much OUT of luck either way also.
  5. Yeah, I can see the smiling kid hunting deer during an early October weekend when the weather is nice. Wait until they turn 16 and they have to hunt during the regular season weather along with all the other issues ones contends with during a regular season. That will be the real test whether you've gotten these kids hooked on hunting or not. So in my opinion you should show them the reality of it all from the get go and not sugar coat things for them. Making up a youth season for them, which does not exactly mirror what the real season is like is just another attempt at fantasy land for kids. Like they don't have enough fantasy in their lives already. We might as well have them step away and not look when it comes time to gut and skin the animal while we are at it. Can't have them see such savagery now should we? Might as well sanitize it all from start to finish. LOL Like I said, the more I think about this the less I care for it. I will guarantee that it will recruit a handful of hunters at best.
  6. Very good point here. So with the youth hunt on Columbus day weekend, bowhunters don't really get the normal bowhunting woods back until the weekend of the 13th, which brings them pretty much back to the same boat they were before when bowhunting opened closer to the middle of the month. So in essence bowhunters have gained very little with the season opener on the 1st. I tell you the more I think about this youth season, the less I like it. I think it will bring out more of the yahoo hunters who want to drag a kid a long just so they can kill that spike or forkhorn for them that they wouldn't be able to kill otherwise in the AR units. I honestly think there will be MORE of these types out during this youth hunt than the legitimate mentor/kid.
  7. Maybe you fellas ought to wear Depends or something? You can go all you want without having to pull it out or drop the trousers.
  8. Wow, you are 84?? God bless you man!! You've got to be the elder statesman here at that age!!
  9. Virgil and Biz-R-O asked me to post this to help persuade some of you freedom loving folks here! LOL
  10. You know when it comes to guns, I tend to agree with you and Biz-R-O. I don't see anyone taking them away anytime soon. Just way too many in private possession for anyone to ever confiscate them all. But, when it comes to laws such as this, it really takes things to a different level. To me it isn't even about freedom, but about who the hell are they to tell me what type of foods I should eat? I know some foods are better than others, but many will tell you meat causes cancer, is bad for the heart, etc. Should I now not be able to buy some beef or chicken because some bunny huggers don't want us killing cattle or chicken and are influencing the medical profession to keep telling us it's bad for us. How long will it be before the price of beef and chicken is $50 a pound just because they think it's bad for us and they want us to pay more for it if we want it. Come on now. This law is senseless and you guys darned well know it.
  11. I am a peaceful man, but take away my spaghetti and it will mean war, I tell you!! I am ordering a crate of ammo right now to be ready for that day, so they better look out!
  12. I'm loving this thread actually. We are close to a 3rd page in less than an hour. The quickest dust up in a good while around here. LOL
  13. Did you ever consider that getting the consumer to pay more will only add to McDonald's or Burger King's profits where more money will be put in research & development to put out even more artery clogging fast food?? People need to LEARN what is good to eat and what isn't. Yeah, it's a big problem in this country, but it all stems from people wanting things the easy way. A lot easier to buy prepared foods than to actually cook it yourself. Women want to work, so there is NO time to cook for the kids. It's all a chain reaction of bad choices society has made here. A stupid law like this won't fix anything.
  14. You think NYC has fatties, take a trip down to the deep south or other rural areas in this country. NYC actually has more fit people than other places. I vacationed in a rural part of NH this summer and stopped off at their Walmart. Couldn't believe all the obese people on scooters, with oxygen, etc. I thought I entered the twilight zone or something.
  15. Can't agree with you on this. Yes, obesity is an epidemic, but we need to educate people to change their mindset, and NOT legislate it. It's starts in the home, and then in schools, etc. Absolutely NO reason someone who is fit should be denied the right to a large soda if he wants one, just because everyone else is a lard ass. And how is this law going to stop people from buying two or three smaller drinks?? Senseless law in my opinion. The sooner this bastard leaves office the better. I honestly could give a crap about any politician in general, but Bloomberg has really gotten under my skin with his nonsense. Like he knows everything there is to know about every topic under the sun, while everyone else is a stupid idiot??
  16. I tell you, I would take 10 Obama's over 1 Bloomberg. Push comes to shove, I don't think Obama really cares about anything in particular enough to push his will on others. Not so with Bloomberg. He picks a topic and come hell or high water he will get his way!! Has done it time and again.
  17. Interesting that someone would go as far as buying another fridge to age venison. Frankly, I think it will be more trouble than it's worth. I have eaten venison from a deer I shot same day without complaints. Couldn't imagine going thru all the trouble of aging it for days and weeks. It can age in my stomach after I eat it. LOL
  18. I just can't stand how they do things in the city and the people just stand for it. Like when Bloomberg got to run for a third term after term limits were voted in by the people. The city council just took a vote amongst themselves and overturned what the people voted on. I can't freaking believe NO one ever took that one to the supreme court. No bloody way that should have ever been allowed. If there was ever a politician that society needs to rid themselves of, it's that clown Bloomberg. Nazi bastard. I honestly don't buy the big gulp drinks myself, but I don't want that clown making that decision for me either.
  19. For me the lack of food plots and such would not be an issue on state land, since I don't hunt over them on my private land either. I think what turns off many to public land is the unknown, which means you can scout a place out, pick a nice spot for yourself well in advance, only to find others there when you do hunt it, which then pretty much destroyed any or all of the plans you took the time to make. On private land you generally don't have such issues, which leads to a MUCH more enjoyable hunting experience. I know all state lands are not the same, but in the southeastern part of the state, a good many areas are like hell holes. You have land that is nothing but a bunch of cliffs and ravines that one would practically need a helicopter to yank a deer out of if a deer was stupid enough to actually frequent such a place and a hunter managed to kill it. Also what kills it for many who lose their private land is the camps and comradery that usually went along with private land hunting. In most cases hunting public land means either sleeping in a camper, a motel, or going back home to sleep, which is far from the traditional hunting camp experience. Some are lucky enough to have a camp close to public land, but I think that is more of the exception and not the rule. Honestly hunting on private land compared to public land are two different worlds. Tasting private land makes it VERY hard to go to public. P.S. And on public land I could very well be the one screwing things up for someone else also, if I happen to set up in a place that someone else picked out. I surely don't like that feeling either, so it's not only from my perspective that I look at this.
  20. Freaking great point!! I would NO doubt prefer to have some inexpensive private land to hunt no matter what type of deer roam on it, instead of paying thru my nose for land that supposedly holds trophies.
  21. I've been on this forum practically since the beginning. Please show me these bucks??? Vast majority of the nice bucks killed by members here have been killed in non AR areas. By the way, attached is a picture of one that was shot last season in an AR zone. It was killed by a friend of a friend of mine. Yep, a grand buck it is. In the meantime this hunter has practically seen or killed JACK in this area in the last 5 years and this guy is no slouch hunter neither. AR's, and hardly any doe permits available in the area don't leave much else for a gun hunter to kill. So AR's may have helped this buck grow big, but so would closing down the hunting season completely which honestly is just about the same as hunting in an AR areas where few to no doe permits get given out.
  22. Dude, who in his right mind would pay $100K for 3 crummy acres to hunt on??? I don't care what county it's in. What type of quality hunting would you expect to do on 3 acres? One could spit from one end of the property to the other. This must be the gag of the week here or something?
  23. I can agree with you that it's your own property, but it's one thing doing something on your own property quietly and another when you are producing loud noise for an extended period of time that echos all over the area. I guess in some locations in the state this may be acceptable, but I know for a fact that it wouldn't swing for long in Deerthug's area.
  24. All the DEC cares about is controlling the deer population and creating some revenue thru hunting. I don't think they care too much about the quality of hunting or what type of bucks are getting killed. Once in a while they throw out a bone just to make some people happy, like they did to the cry babies that wanted AR's, but that's pretty much it. They want a certain amount of deer dead, and that is all that is important in the end. They could care less if it takes 4 weeks or 9 days, or whether it's during the rut or after or while the deer are actually mating.
  25. That's exactly what I mean. Not even a shooter/hunter wants to hear it all day long, let alone someone who isn't.
