You are correct. Many OLDER hunters wouldn't pass the shot up either. We are just telling you that the vast majority who try it WILL Fk up a shot like that in one way or another. That's pretty much it. So fire away fellas for we surely can't stop you. Just don't go starting threads afterwards on how you shot, but now can't find him, because you definitely won't get a free ride from many of us then.

Funny stuff alright. I will be the first to admit that I ain't much of a bowhunter, but there is mighty LITTLE doubt in my mind that the vast majority of bowhunters out there should NOT be shooting much past 20 to 25 yards. I have seen gun hunters screw up big time shooting at 50 yards and even less, and then I should have confidence in a bowhunter zipping one thru perfectly at 50 yards with all the disadvantages an arrow has in comparison to a bullet or slug? Yeah, I'm sure it's been done, but those same people are probably not telling us of the many more screw ups they've had at the same distances. I don't care how experienced the archer is. Taking a 50+ yards is pretty much the same as a quarterback throwing a pass 80 yards into a pack of players in the endzone with 2 seconds left on the clock. Yeah, it succeeds ONCE in a while, while it fails more times than not. By the way, can someone direct me to the smiley waving the BS flag? I may need it down the road in this thread, although it's probably been needed already. LOL

What I find hilarious is that much of Obamacare was modeled after the MA healthcare plan that was signed into law by Romney. And now Romney is badmouthing it and claiming that he will repeal Obamacare once he's in office? Yeah right!! Romney saying this alone shows what type of flip-flopping hypocrite he really is. Yes, there are risks doing anything, BUT it's been proven that there are more hunters hurt or killed using treestands than by gunshot wounds or anything else by a WIDE margin. Yeah, maybe many of these people were careless, but I don't think they all were. If I were born a monkey or a squirrel, maybe I'd be more comfortable in a tree, but unfortunately I wasn't, so I will prefer keeping my feet on the ground for most things.

I would agree with that. To me however, a dead deer, no matter how big or grand is not worth breaking my neck for. Thus if it's a decision between a treestand that I am not comfortable with or to remain with my feet on the ground, I will take my chances on the ground. No big deal if I don't score on a deer.

The only treestands I have used have been a couple home made stands with a solid ladder attached, or one store bought ladder type stand. Absolutely NO way would I ever get into a climber, a hang on or anything similar. When one can kill them from the ground, why take stupid risks with such flimsy stands??

72% of the deer I killed in NYS have been from the ground. And this is not from a pop-up blind or anything similar, but by sitting up against a tree, stone wall, a boulder or while still hunting. The ones I have taken elsewhere have been 97% from the ground. These percentages are from the over 50 deer I have been lucky enough to kill, so a treestand is most certainly NOT a necessity for success.

Very impressive to say the least. Our hats off to Phade! As far as shooting at 50 yards, maybe there are a FEW who can make it happen, but I have NO doubt that it's a very FEW. I don't consider myself much of a bowhunter, but I would wager that most bowhunters shouldn't shoot much past 20 yards, let alone 50. I would also wager that for every deer that is put down at 50 yards there are scores of them either missed or wounded at even 30 or 40 yards. I simply will never be convinced that a bow is an consistently effective weapon much beyond 30 yards for anyone other than the most experienced archers. As others have mentioned, shooting at targets at long distances is a whole different world compared to shooting at a live deer. And being a good bow shot, don't necessary make you a good bowHUNTER.

Treestands, most especially those climber type are just an accident waiting to happen. Elmo, glad you weren't hurt. My advice would be to hunt from the ground from now on. I've killed plenty of deer from the ground, and so have scores of others. I have no doubt that you will too. No deer is worth breaking your neck for. Solidly built permanent type stands are one thing(although not completely foolproof), but these flimsy portable climbing types belong in the trash and not up a tree where a hunter is to stand on them. My .02 cents.

Wow, quite a contraption you have there! You did get some good footage, but honestly I will never understand the need people have these days to videotape themselves doing just about everything? I guess it's the Youtube era we are living in and it's here to stay. I for one will continue to concentrate on the hunting part, and then if I remember, I will have someone snap a picture of me with the dead animal once it's down. I am OLD school I reckon, but that's OK. I have fewer contraptions to lug out into the woods with me. LOL

Yes they are. My biggest problem with Romney is that just about everything he utters is either a lie or a flip flop from what he has said in the past. At least Obama is what he is. Doesn't put on as big of a facade as Romney. Since Romney supposedly is a God fearing pious Mormon, I just don't know how he could be living with himself with all the BS he has spewed. He's as cold blooded a liar as I've every seen, to be perfectly honest.

Romney did well. He was his usual snakeoil salesman self. Whether or not winning the debates will help him get elected remains to be seen.

From the little I know about him, I like what I've seen. He will show himself actually gutting and skinning the animal he kills, and it's not like he gives a hoot about horns like everyone else seems to these days. Let's see some of the other TV hunter heroes do something like that? All they care about is sponsors and B&C scores.

I think residency goes by the drivers license you hold. If it's a NYS license, I don't think you can get a MA resident hunting license. If you had a MA drivers license, you would be considered a non-resident in NYS for a hunting license.

He kept telling us over and over how great he was and how the rest of us suck. I find carrying a bow to be very awkward in comparison to a gun. NO way will I walk with a knocked arrow. I walked up on a buck two years ago and had plenty of time to knock an arrow. Just way too easy to trip when walking in the woods and I don't think it would be very hard at all to get stabbed with that broadhead if you were to go down. I for one would feel a lot more safe walking with a loaded gun with the safety on in comparison.
