Actually I have heard of them asking to go to the site of the bear kill. How often this happens? Who knows. I guess these days there are more bears shot and fewer officers around, so I guess they can't possibly ask to see the site very often. But in general I think they are more likely to want to see the site of a bear kill over a deer kill and the reasons probably have to do with baiting.

Well, I am one of the older guys, but what you say about losing a deer if you hunt long enough is very true. Actually I've heard many more of the older guys boast that they never lost one, which can be very hard to believe. I bet they hit a couple along the way(especially in gun season), that they never realized they even hit. It can happen even when you think it's a slam dunk kill. It's an unfortunate part of our sport I guess. My only advice would be is to never consider that animal dead until you are standing over it, ready to gut it. I think people sometimes are premature in thinking that the deer will be laying dead over the next hill and then find out otherwise.

This is one of those "would you shoot a few minutes before or after legal shooting hours" type questions. Most won't ever be brave enough to admit it, but there is little doubt in my mind that most hunters out there WOULD shoot if the animal they wanted happened to walk in. Law or no law, they will do it.

Yeah, you are lumped with the young ones because you can't man up to the fact that you wouldn't be planting any food plots if it weren't for your deer hunting. I have yet to see someone who plants acres upon acres of food plots for animals and at the same time is NOT a hunter. I am not saying that there isn't anyone out there who does this, but I can assure you it is very rare. And for the record, since your comprehension is so poor, I have NEVER said that I am against anyone hunting over food plots or would I lose a wink of sleep if any other baiting was allowed in NYS. I hunt the way I want to and could give a crap the way you want to hunt. I only pointed out a few things here and then people like you think that I am out to ban your bloody food plots. Grow up will you!

I know when it comes to bowhunting, I don't consider it a done deal nor do I want any congratulations until I am standing next to the dead deer!

I know angles and distance can look deceptive on film, but I looked at the video again and I tell you it sure looks like an arrow fired high has the potential of reaching the road. Kind of playing with fire in my opinion to have things set up like that.

What I find most interesting about this video is how it shows a lack of safety. It sure looked like this shooter was shooting directly towards a busy freeway. Yeah, maybe he was aiming low at the target and maybe the arrow couldn't travel far enough to reach the freeway, but it sure looks to me that a more safe background could have been found.

Hunting isn't allowed in Harriman state park, so I wouldn't doubt some bucks grow old in there. Lots of land in there for them to hide in.

No, DEC rules for type of weapons wouldn't apply to a game farm. What kills me about some of these shows is how they talk about some great hunting in Michigan, NY, etc., etc. and then proceed to show a hunt in a game farm with B&C sized bucks running together in packs. LOL Like the rest of us hunting free ranging deer will see such a sight??

And you can continue to try to bamboozle those who are gullible that you would continue to plant food plots for those other critters if deer weren't somehow in the picture.LOL Some of us have been hunting longer than you and have heard all sorts of BS hunting stories over the years. It seems like you young ones are continuing the BS tradition in another sort of way! LOL

As the famous movie line goes. "You guys can't handle the truth". Why don't you fellas go out and feed all the rest of the critters that walk the earth since you feel so kind in helping wildlife? Yeah, some may help themselves to your plots, but I'll bet any of you any money you want that if it weren't for the deer that you have interest in, those food plots wouldn't be put out for raccoons, possums or anything else.

You boys get all pissed if anyone makes any sort of comment about food plots. Those are your problems and insecurities and not ours. No one is telling you that food plots should be illegal. We only point out how others may view them which are as an attractant and an attractant can also be viewed as a bait. Quite simple to understand for those who want to.

Correct. They all WOULD be hunting over bait. Nowhere did I say I was somehow against hunting this way. My point is that you fellas shouldn't get so defensive when someone says that food plots ARE bait. I have absolutely no problem with them, lets just call them what they are and not make it out that hunting over a food plot is NOT baiting while hunting over a feeder would be and that person should somehow be condemned to hell. The honest truth is that only some double talk by the DEC makes one legal and the other not. We all take different types of advantages to bring down our deer. I don't have any problems with food plots just calling things the way I see them.

Technically yes, just like a food plot would be. The farmer most likely planted the corn to use for human or livestock consumption, so he is not the baiter. You were for setting up to hunt next to it. By planting a food plot you would be the planter who put out bait on the land you hunt. This really isn't like rocket science and shouldn't be hard to understand how food plots are no different than any other baiting. And for those who say that food plots are not baiting because they are for the long term compared to a timed feeder, that is a weak argument to say the least. Obviously this thread was started by someone complaining that his plot was being eaten too quickly. Wouldn't a timed feeder work even better than a food plot to feed deer for the long term?? All you need to do is refill it every once in a while. Not like you can plant too many things in the dead of winter if the deer cleaned everything you planted up well before then.

Yeah, Pygmy is pretty old so it's possible. It probably won't be long until it's time to make a mummy out of pygmy. LOL I know I am not so lucky to kill 2 to 4 turkeys each year, though. They can be way tougher to get than deer. They might be on your land one day and 3 miles away the next, so they are not as territorial as deer and not as easy to bag.

Plus we shouldn't forget that food plots, be they big or small are planted predominately by hunters. Not like the bunny loving tree-huggers are planting any of them so the cuddly animals don't starve. There is a self-serving motive behind food plots, which has plenty to do with HUNTING. Those who say that planting food plots has more to do with them helping the herd than it does to help the hunting on their land are definitely not telling the truth. Like I said, I am not against any of this, even those who plant a food plot right under their stands. I just hate it when people try to cover-up the truth with all the different "good deer biology", "helping the herd" mumbo jumbo behind food plots.

You mean the 86 mets? Probably the most underachieving team in baseball history. Yeah they won it all that year, but with all the talent they had for those few years they only won one series and appeared in the playoffs only one other time. But then again, the mets have been losers throughout their history. I think they need to take the NY off their caps and substitute it with a big L for LOSERS. LOL

Yeah, he's a big dude, but he is pretty rugged. Really doesn't get injured often eventhough he is big and his record is pretty darned impressive compared to most all modern day pitchers. Most pitchers are more delicate than women these days, so Sabathia has a good many things that most other pitchers don't. Finding a good pitcher these days is harder than finding a B&C buck.

Honestly if this was his first post season appearance we could give him a pass on his poor performance, it could happen to anyone, but how long has he been a yankee now and how many post season series has he been in already?? The guy is downright pathetic. He obviously has helped teams he's played on with all his HR's and RBI's during the regular seasons, but when it's a really important game and he REALLY needs to come thru, he chokes just about every bloody time!!! To me this makes him a far less great player than most people would claim he is.

I do hear you on this. I for one could care less if someone wants to shoot his deer right off of a food plot or stalk 30 miles after it. I do however see very little difference in baiting and food plots. Plenty of people would argue the differences for days on end, but anyone being completely honest has to admit the differences are mighty small.

In my opinion it's a complete waste of time to fuss with deer ribs like you would with ribs from other animals. Cut out the little meat there is and grind it up. That's all it's really good for.

Some of you guys kill me! I thought you guys plant food plots for the animals to eat?? Its almost too funny to watch you get bummed when they eat it all before you want them to eat it. Maybe you should put out signs next to the plots saying. "For deer only". "Food for hungry deer only after October 15th". "Raccoons, porcupines, please go eat elsewhere". "Trespassing animals will be prosecuted". LOL. Your first step of course is to teach the animals to read. LOL

Oh, I believe you. I have seen lots of people have the very same experience. That is why when I decide to spend a week in the country with my family, I rent a house. Costs me nothing compared to owning something year round with NO headaches. Everything is set up and taken care of and I can relax more than if I owned it.

Since the Yankees didn't get to the world series, it is a losing season for them. A-Rod most especially is pathetic in the post season. They used to call Reggie Mr. October. They should call A-Rod Mr. March. Spring training is about the only time he comes thru when they really need him to.
