I don't think I have much of a chance to see one in Delaware county, not yet anyway, but I surely WOULD shoot it. I think the possibility of it carrying the disease is very small. Hunters kill lots of them down south and I have never heard of anyone getting sick after eating them. I am sure some pigs must have similar viruses down there also. I know these critters can be very destructive, but it sure wouldn't be a bad thing to have another very edible critter to hunt around here. Bears sure as hell are not appetizing to me, I don't care what anyone says about how good the meat is. Steve a friend of mind has a camp off rt.97 near long eddy off Houlahan Brook rd. And two years ago he saw one and didn't know what to think. So at dinner that nite he never mentioned it, till someone else in the group said they say a wild pig from his tree stand no one shot it. Where he is that's Delaware county, southern part of the county.Dave That's good to know. I am in the northern part of the county, but if I do get to see one he just may have to give up his hams, chops, etc..

What I find quite refreshing here is that they claim that all of this is for FREE. Not a heck of a lot of places you can take your kids for free these days. Most events will practically charge you for the air they breath.

Not exactly a joke, but a funny cartoon. Hope it doesn't get deleted before at least a few of you see it. This would be opening day if the deer were the hunters and the humans were the hunted. Of course this is a none AR or should I say DR unit! LOL

I don't see a .44 mag as anything more than a pistol round. Sure it can kill a deer, but any of the cartridges listed in the original post are a whole lot better big game rounds.

You are right we use to pay to shoot something now they want us to pay to shoot nothing.Dave Well, we are not quite there yet, but if they take our antlerless bow tag, and then still don't give us that DMP that they claim we would have a better chance of getting and then also stick us with AR's, it pretty much boils down to NOTHING. I'd rather not pay them in advance for this bonanza of a great deal! I doubt the lifetime license is a "satisfaction guaranteed or your money back" offer.
-
I will pay as I go. I don't think spending $100 a year for a license will kill most people to warrant purchasing a lifetime license in order to save money in the long run. Even if license costs go up, I don't think it will ever be unaffordable. Now, whether I want to give the state the $100 for being allowed to shoot next to nothing is a different story, though. LOL
-
Wow that smarts! I don't know if I have good shooting form or not, but I have never used an armguard while shooting, even with short sleeves. Never had a problem, and I have hairy arms also and have never shaved a hair off them. Go figure!

Burt money has never impressed me, I am almost 62 and at this point in life I have provided for my needs. I would rather protect the land and water than line my pockets. But you are right some people are all about the money. Imagine what NY will look like once this gets stared, I shutter think about it. Who will police these well drillers? Dave You are to be commended, Dave! Unfortunately the landowners I know at least will be tripping over themselves to sign up to such a deal. They could care less what the future impact will be as long as they have money in their pockets now.
-
I have heard great things about it. They say it has real good accuracy, and how can you beat the price, which is lower than any rifle out there. The Savages aren't as cheap as they used to be, so this looks like a great deal for a fine rifle. I would get it in a heartbeat if I needed another rifle, which I don't.
-
Now if they were to actually increase DMP tags for everyone to use, I would be all for this. Most especially since I prefer hunting with a gun. I don't for a minute believe them, however. They can come back and say, "NO, sorry, still not enough deer to issue more DMP's in our opinions", and then we will have JACK available for us to legally shoot, while we are still paying the same or more for licenses. Let them tack on AR's and we will have even less opportunities. In such a scenario I will probably look for a place in another state, maybe down south where the bag limits are more generous. Maybe I will get to hunt only one week out of a year, but as long as I am at least allowed to shoot a deer, which I may not be guaranteed in NYS, I will be happy. Won't be buying licenses in NYS if there is nothing legal for me to shoot here.

Awful nice of you I must say!! We'd let you know. I barely have time to go to my usual stomping grounds, but LI is surely not far away for me at least. I even bought a can of that tick repellent you and Doe recommended, not that I really needed it, but just wanted to have it, so I guess I'm all set for LI and those tick that would have eaten me alive!! LOL

Geno has stands on 6 of those trees and his buddy on the 7th. They've got the Island covered pretty good. LOL its like comedy hour in here. i can lend you 2 a tree but you cant shoot bucks even if a nice one comes out. that would be against your doe hunting policy lol i love shootin the does, ill save you guys some if you come out here. cant promise much with only 7 trees out here but atleast you have 7 options lol I might take you up on that Geno, very nice of you to even offer!! Either one of us would have absolutely NO problem in passing on the buck even if it was a good one. I honestly could care less about horns, the older I get the less I care for them. All I hunt for is some good tasting venison for the freezer, that is why I get disappointed when I don't get to draw a doe tag in my usual hunting area.

Now why do you think a cat couldn't manage his way thru some narrow crossings between Montreal and Lake Ontario? From Quebec into the portion of Ontario around Ottawa and then into NYS?? I don't see this as an impossibility for an animal.
-
The Great Lakes and the St Lawrence Seaway come to mind - unless they have ezy pass to cross the 1000 Islands Bridge. Well, if he came the southern route thru states like Illinois, Ohio, there would have been plenty of obstacles for him also, including the Hudson river before he reached CT. Moose came back into the Dacks thru Vermont and had to go around the Lake Champlain and Lake George areas. Most have settled deep inside the Dacks a good distance away from either area. I couldn't begin to guess where this cat came from, but I would guess Quebec sooner than I would S. Dakota if he came from anywhere at all.

It has been this way for a few years now in the Catskill region. I think only you guys in the western counties had to wait another week for bear.

Nah I'm from way upstate, Saratoga county, but that is an idea Geno...country boy goes to city and slaughters many doe..lol its a movie! Maybe there is no permits cause they figured we killed em all already. ha LOL! you and steve can be the main stars of the movie. And two better looking actors will never grace the big screen! LOL We have been turned down for roles recently that were given to actors such as Brad Pitt and Russell Crowe. They told us we were too good looking. Or did they tell us to "keep looking"?? Anyway, we try to look on the bright side of things here. LOL

No $#!+!! Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush Sr., Clinton, Bush Jr., Obama. Absolutely NONE of them were any better than the other, and that includes REAGAN who many idolize. He may have had some half way intelligent people working for him, but he himself couldn't recite his own name without a teleprompter in front of him. He hemmed and hawed anytime he had to answer a question without written notes in front of him, and then some of his supporters accuse Obama of the same! LOL If anyone thinks a politician of either party will actually be looking out for us, I've got news for them.
-
I am closer to the Island than Doe although I never considered hunting it. Give us some pointers on where we can hunt in relative solitude, and where there isn't a chance that our deer will drop next to someones backyard barbecue, and we will be there. With us there, area 1C will become a "preference points needed" area before you know it! LOL
-
they do that to you 2 on purpose you know that right? its a conspiracy you and doe did not know this whole time.... LOL! They may very well try to keep us from getting permits. They probably know that if they give them to us, that deer will actually end up dead. Unlike many of you here who will shoot and miss all the deer you see, and then tell us that you passed them up!
