first year turkey hunter to... im in -
I plan on putting an adder point behind a broadhead, figure it will penetrate and get stuck inside. least that what I read around the net

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AKifqGObHg same one the guy in this vid is wearing. loved it for hunting
-
I have a tarantula and love it. Usually leave it attached to my pack or around the tree.

if there is such a huge deer problem out there why don't they open up Suffolk county parks to all hunters. just makes no sense that I cant hunt out there without a damn card

175 pounds. Believe its doin 280 ish fps with the standard string which im gonna leave. As fast as it flies and as accurate as it is i can see a 40 yard shot on a calm deer. No wind and shootin off a rail or stick.
-
Damn, crossbows are loud. Wasn't quite prepared for just how loud it is. with my recurve I hear next to no noise, this thing OMG. even got the string suppression system and its still loud as crap. I will say that this thing is freaking easy as pie though. wife is nailing stuff even though she needs me to cock it. she is pleased and got a guy at work coming turkey hunting with me just so he can try the xbow and see how it goes (not gonna hunt just hang out) thanks for the help all
-
In my honest opinion... nope
-
Nothing in stone yet but as per a dec rep i spoke to about spring turkey crossbow will be in the hunters ed course as of now. Bbbbuuuut grain of salt till its up on site. No xbow for spring turky

introducing Wolves just seems a bit off to me. would piss me off if they brought wolves in NY. can imagine my dog in the woods getting torn apart by a pack of wolves, or them getting a bit to close to the public after they destroy a deer herd seriously, if they cant figure out a way to keep the deer under control, and they are letting wild pigs start to invade, what are they gonna do when wolves start breeding like crazy. couple coyotes are nothing compared to a pack of wolves
-
guess they got a coyote problem out there

http://www.eregulations.com/newyork/12nyhd/crossbow-hunting/ those are the old regulations I believe. looks like you just needed a card that you signed. honestly would be a waist of time to add an entire new class. just make it a Bow/crossbow class and include it with the license they covered a lot of the same stuff in the hunter education as they did with the bow if you ask me. both were good don't get me wrong and worth the time.

yup I hear ya think one of the reasons I caved to getting a crossbow in my home is to get a bit of range, I don't have 30 yards to get confident at on a regular basis so my recurve range is under 20 from what I been reading bout the excaliburs the wife and I should be able to take a deer over 50 yards away. again the issue for us is getting somewhere regularly to practice at long ranges but with a crossbow im figuring once in a blue is all we need course the recurve side of me is jealous of the crossbow and it don't get here till next week no idea why I am so opposed to compounds or I would get one but MAN I just cant bring myself to shoot one.
-
That sucks. Comes on and off

I pretty much agree with this statement but would say kids and women should get a pass. Or at least kids. But its realy a question of what a person feels hunting should be. Or at least modern hunting. Yhe more loud people u get to agree with u the better.
-
Dont think thats a fair statemnt. All user defined. Putin the time and If u have the space accurcy and range grow alot. Im comfy out to 15 yards cause thats the max i shoot in my home everuyy night. Im just gettin 20 but only hit that at rnge but my group is shrinkin Effectiveness... ive seen more vids of componds not gettin pass throughs than i have of trad equipmnt. But both take deer quite well

Went ahead and pulled the trigger (hehe) on the axiom. I already drive a minivan when i hunt. No way in hell was i adding a pink crossbow to that picture

imagine you and a hunting buddy taking a quick mid day nap after lunch on a trail just to scare the crap out of a lil ole lady riding her bike not seeing you till she was right up on you. don't know if I was more scared or she was hehe Long Island sucks for that.... buuuut its close

didn't mean it like that, one of the spots I hunted last year a house was posted and it was my first time in the area I had only seen aerials of it and picked a spot with some really good sign. BUT after getting there I found that someones property line was right up against what was huntable DEC land and Unhuntable DEC land which I can always get access to if needed. I found a sweet spot on a ridge overlooking his property line, the DEC property line and the huntable land. did I get a shot? nope but was still worth a shot. had I gotten a shot and it went to his land I would have just went back to my car took off the camo and went to knock on the door. but some of these places its not like they leave out the welcome mat, they clearly don't want to be bothered as im guessing MANY hunters come their way. but if im on huntable land im hunting it. if your land is marked I wont step foot on it unless in walking or driving up your driveway to ask for permission. cant always get it in advance when you don't live in the area is what I was trying to get across. and the issue with permission was one of the reasons I stuck to big woods for most of last year. but hunting closer to home is sooo much easier for me. always feel guilty after a day of being in the woods without my kids. cut a few trips short because of it.

thanks for all the info, gonna wait till regs hit, then make the buy. was lookin with the wife and she wants a pink Excal Vixen, guess that good cause there is no way in hell im huntin with a pink xbow. told her she can forget about a shotgun and a license so we will see how this plays out.
