  1. My platform I was sitting in is only 12 feet up, I could see and hear the spike chewing whatever he was eating. That was the closest I've had a deer and not shot. Got the heart going still.
  2. In a tree shack on my buddies property where there's only 20 yard shots, nice to keep the rain off me!
  3. Tried to watch your shot and didn't follow through, what type of broadhead? Blades sharp? Spins true?
  4. It's never too late to start enjoying the outdoors. Welcome!
  5. On October 1st I shot a doe at 0701, and then a second at 0706. First shot was quartering away hard, second was quartering towards slightly. Quartering away ran uphill with arrow in her, second ran downhill arrow came out after 20 feet and hit a tree. Was confident both were good shots and I heard one crash. Sat until 9 am and went and got friend out of his stand to track. We started following the second deers trail that the arrow came out of and it led us down hill and I spotted her white belly so we abandoned the trail to retrieve her.(bad idea) it turn out to be the deer that ran up hill and must of ran back downhil because the arrow was still in her. Confused, we marked the trail and walked back up the hill to track again. We ended up 5 feet over from the first trail tracking and went well over 500 yards with little blood but there was bubbles. Despite a few hours of tracking the last blood we found was a bed with blood then not a drop after and we did a grid search after. Now for what I learned. Stay on the bloodtrail even if you see the deer (if you shot 2).Really think about your shot. This must have been a one lung hit that was high on entry and clipped top of the lung. This deers bed was 500 yards from the hit sight and she did not slow down once. Still sick about it but I do believe we did the best we could have.
  6. Good learning experience there! Congrats and pics or It didn't happen!
  7. 16 doe my friend and I saw opening morning! That's nuts for my area. I will be taking another if the opportunity arises.
  8. Had a lone doe or small buck scoot by at 80 yards tonight right at dark, had an encounter with an owl about 15 feet away at eye level! Cool stuff!
  9. Well my 3 year old helped me skin a doe last night, and we go out in the woods all the time for squirells. We use a 22
  10. Sucks hunting where there's no cell service, but 10 deer in 2 hours is my spot for tommorow also!
  11. got a doe this morning, my buddy and I sitting 100 yards apart saw 16 different doe from 0700-1000
  12. Took a nice doe this am, she didn't go far, quartering away hard.
  13. 530 in stand 6-615. Might not have service in this stand so good luck to all and be safe.
  14. Welcome and good luck bowhunting! Binghamton here
  15. .243 is more than enough for deer, I prefer a nice compact .308 but I would take a bear if I had the chance. I would say invest in some other things like you said and hunt with the .243.
  16. I got 2 soup Thermos on clearance last week for $7 at Walmart!
  17. I just bought a pack of G5 striker magnums for shits and giggles, 30 yard target. It BLEW through my target dead center. I shot a few more arrows and it was no fluke. 1.5 inch cutting diameter fixed head flying perfect to 30 yards!
  18. Only was exposed string, I have no expose string on my cams, it's all serving over top of the string. Bow does not need to be drawn. I've never put cam lubricant on my cams, I have the bow shop do that when I change strings and clean it.
