  1. Light showers at 68% probability turned into downpours at 100% . Lasted in the stand for about 4.5 minutes this morning
  2. Made sure my bow was shooting straight this evening. Lost one arrow but found another, previously lost arrow. The wood gods have had their annual one arrow tribute already.Too tired for a sit. Early to bed tho for the hunt in the morn.
  3. when I see the antlers with hands on, I would say 2.5 due to the mass. Some of the cam pics make him look older. Get a pick of the teeth?
  4. Hunted the ground from my Turkey spot this eve. Here is a top tip for you fellers. Cigars are great for determining wind direction
  5. The morning was dead. I will go out for magic hour however. Not killing myself until week 3.
  6. Yep, I hunt over red oaks and the deer munch on 'em quite happily. I bit into one once to get a taste. It was not at all bitter. Sadly, this year the drop was early and they are already dried up!
  7. Burying you mean? I cover the head in a Rubbermaid weighted down.
  8. Heading out in 15 for the evening sit. Lots of deer in the fields as I was out on errands
  9. So, a decent start for me. The rain held off, I was in the stand before 6 and at 7 a large 1 or average 2 year old came in right under me, snuffling away. I had sprayed my boots with home-brew acorn scent on the walk in. Seemed like he came right into it. He had one of those gnarly racks, 2 long points curved over at the top. Not on the menu however, and it was 10 minutes before legal. After that all was quiet. Fried eggs and coffee now. I will be changing stands for the evening sit. Gas line maintenance workers were making a racket close by too which probably did not help.
  10. A pop-up will not survive a heavy snow fall unless it is under a Hemlock or something. I gave up on 'em after losing 2. Make one from branches and camo tarps instead if you can.
  11. As long as the rain is not too heavy I have had decent hunting. Rain+wind however = back to bed.
  12. Next year I want to get a 2nd Bow. It would too much of a psychological leap however to go from my 15+ yr old Darton I got for free, to a 1000+ dollar Bow that will essentially do the same thing. I will certainly be looking for a used one in the 3-5 range. I like Darton, but apparently the cams and modules are not adjustable for a new user on a 2nd hand bow and need to be replaced. This was the case with my current Bow. So the free Bow in fact cost me about 100 in parts and labor.
  13. You described my first deer here. I was on cloud 9 for a week. Funny how one's goals develop and evolve tho.
  14. Changes year by year. This year I need a 4 yr old or better. Yes...I am already downloading recipes for tag soup before anyone asks.
  15. I will be in the middle of the only Oaks dropping acorns in our woods by 5:30 am. I am expecting a fish-in-barrel situation.
  16. Look at what is happening in China. They have a 'social' points system there now, basically a political shit-test. If you or even friends and family are caught saying things upsetting to the government, your points are effected and this has an impact on services you can avail of. Here, we have started to see private companies and social media essentially adopt the same model in terms of them deplatforming people whose politics they do not like. It has already begun
  17. Guy who hunted our woods in the past baited all the time before I took over the property. He never got big bucks. I think the older deer know to stay away, at least in daylight hours.
