  1. There are articles and web links related to the positive effects of Stevia (the sweetener) on Lymes
  2. So, a disappointing morning sit in the new stand over the large scrape I found. A camera indicated a high probability of Deer action over it after 7 am, but it was not to be. Felt pretty warm this morning too. I did however pull a card over the large community scrape in the furthermost corner of the woods. This is an area by a road, where deer cross in from the other side. This camera indicated both morning and evening action every day. The two horned freak deer (at least 2 yrs old) I am chasing actually used this scrape this morning, during legal light. Gutted... I have moved a stand near this community area now for this evening and tomorrow. I am determined not to eat bow-tag soup. I really want that two horned devil !
  3. Super animal. I am at work and feeling very frustrated and green with envy. Nice work. I will be in the woods by 1:30 tho!

  6. Had a small flock of 5 Turkey pass me. They seemed kind pathetic, with just one Jake. I let 'em pass. Didn't feel like causing a ruckus while I waited for deer anyway. 2 doe came out of the thick stuff in front of me. No Bucks. Still the most action packed sit in a while. Cant get out till tomorrow night now
  7. Trump will win the election and is more popular than Obama in 2008, AI system finds http://www.cnbc.com/2016/10/28/donald-trump-will-win-the-election-and-is-more-popular-than-obama-in-2008-ai-system-finds.html
  8. I used the morning rain to move a stand by the 2 active scrapes I found last night. No camera activity on it over night tho...except for my cat. Also found a Buck bed area. The smell was unmistakably sweet. Put a camera in this area too. So, Bucks are on their feet in daylight now. I have a Buck returned, a weird 2 pointer, but he is at least 2. He has been on my hit list for a while. I would love to take this guy with Bow if I can, get his genes out of the pool. Be a nice euro mount too.
  9. Gonna use this inclement weather to get a stand moved soon.
  10. Maybe Wooly's future lies in shooting wildlife with the camera. He would not be the first to go down that road. Wooly, have you ever sent your work to National Geographic or some wildlife magazines?
  11. There is a fascinating book about St Francis of Paola. This is another Francis, not the more famous one, but in some ways more interesting. He was an animal lover, a vegetarian and had powers of healing and curing. In fact in one story, he raised a worker from the dead, killed on the job working to build a chapel for Francis. One day, one of Francis's brother monks took his favorite fish from his pond and decided to cook it up for him, as a special treat. He presented the dish to Francis, who when he found out what fish it was, became sad. He took the cooked fish in his hands and walked back to the pond. He sat down and placed the fish into the water, whereupon it was restored to life and swam away.
  12. I know how you feel. I do not get any kicks out of killing doe or younger Bucks. I focus entirely on the wiser, gnarly older Bucks, if I know them to be around. Even then, I know there will be remorse if there has been history over several seasons. John Eberhart talks about this after he killed an older Buck after 4 seasons of chasing him down. It's called having empathy I think
  13. Well, I had a small adventure in the woods this evening. Very fruitful. So I decided to snake my way to a stand I have only sat once. It is toward the bottom left hand corner of the woods from the house. Not too far from a main road, and so for this reason I never feel overly enthusiastic due to traffic noise. Anyway, I wanted to give other stands a rest so I left at 4:30 for a short sit. I was about to turn and head for a different stand on the way there, but saw some disturbance in the leaf litter and so decided to continue on to the original spot. On the way I found 2 large and active scrapes, close together but under two separate beech trees. I stopped and examined the hoof marks. Someone had been real busy. Movement caught my eye, I looked and saw a Buck, decent body, medium rack, probably the 2 year old who has taken up residence. He hadn't seen me and went on about his business, rubbing up another tree. I decided to quietly make my way to a different stand, close by. The plan was to rattle him back for a better look. A few rattles and doe bleats failed to produce results. I waited awhile to be sure he wasn't sneaking in, then I went to grab a camera from another corner to put over these newly discovered scrapes. It has been years since this side of the woods had seen such action. As luck would have it, the camera was dead. I had to sneak back to the house, reload and get the thing back over the scrape before dark. I did not want to miss any action over it. I hung the camera and decided to stalk my way into the area where I last saw the buck. There was a lot of ground disturbance. I kept following it. Then the biggest doe I ever saw came into view. She seemed to be passing me by but then turned in my direction. I tried to shift behind a tree but cracked a stick under foot. She stopped, looked and then started toward me. I hunkered down in the hopes of not being spotted but as she came up the ridge toward me she wheezed at my shape and danced off a ways. I was downwind, so she came round behind me for another look. She really wanted to get the measure of me. I honestly have never seen a doe as big as she was. Put some horns on her and she would have made a nice 2.5 year old buck. I eventually got up and decided to continue scouting all the way into the far corner by the road. I found 2 enormous community scrapes. So tomorrow I need to get a cam over it and move a stand into the general area. All in all, a fun night in the woods!
  14. Bumped a yearling Buck on my neighbors just now as I checked a camera. Same and only Buck I have on cam from this spot. No scrapes, no rubs. I think this area is a dead zone for deer this year. Not going to bother sitting it again.
  15. Reading a book right about the decline of social capital and civic engagement. It talks specifically about the decline in membership of all organizations across the board. The general consensus is that this is related to 2 major factors, a declining economy and disintegration of community life due to a change in cultural attitudes and a loss of respect for the system. People are basically becoming more selfish, less economically secure and more culturally detached as a result in the rise and ease of access to mindless entertainment. The nation is basically unraveling at the seams The book is 'Bowling alone' by Robert Putnam
  16. 85 acres divided by 4 properties. 40 acres is the biggest, but this is right next to my neighbors with 20, so it is a 60 acre patch. one 20 acre place and my Sis in Law has 5 acres that I have hunted a couple of times.
  17. No deer this morning, but some interesting scouting was done. I found what appears to be a primary scrape on my neighbors, in an area I know is a staging point for the farm fields above us. I placed a cam on it, and built a brush blind close by,in anticipation of gun. This is also the corner of his property where the big boys are often seen disappearing into. I avoid hunting it in Bow because it is right on the property line. I can drop a deer in its shoes with gun, so I will try this patch then. I had moved a stand into some thick stuff along the top of a ravine a couple of weeks ago. Sat it last night, thought i heard something scrambling out of the ravine nearby. I had made a scrape with pee and this morning there was a new scrape line that passed my stand. Unfortunately i think it is the little 2 yr old I will likely not shoot. Interesting to see some scrape action finally however.
  18. Didn't set an alarm, wanted to see if body needed a lie-in. I'm up! Guess the hunt is on. First time sitting this morning's stand choice. Giving the others a break. Sat over a ravine edge last night. Heard something crashing around in it in front of me. Not sure which side it came up on however. Never saw it.
  19. I am currently reading Eberhart's Buck on hunting high pressured White-tails. He has a story about an amazing Buck called the Wheezer. After 4 years he manages to harvest it. This is what he finds inside:
  20. There is an amazing story in this book about a Buck called the 'Wheezer'. Unbelievable stuff
  21. Uneventful 4 hour sit this evening. I also wore the wrong muck boots and so had a wet foot the whole time. Pretty miserable, but I was determined to sit my neighbors till last light. I am giving my woods a break till the rut kicks in. No deer and no rubs of any serious nature. It is a weird season. I have a feeling I will not bag a bow Buck this year. No Buck sign to zero in on.
  22. Can't face this weather this morning. Maybe an evening sit.
  23. Looks like he has stopped to digest a little by some cover. Not sure it is a regular bed. No scraped up earth or top cover. Nice picks all the same.
