  1. Just getting the trophy room started but so far so good. looks good with the realtree curtains
  2. Mountain Lion For Sure!!!!
  3. is it just me or does this doe look massive?
  4. Which shower curtain do you guys like better? One is a classic buck and doe scene, goes nice with the mat and toilet seat cover. The other is a custom made curtain that my sister had made for me. I live in Downtown Troy and used to cut up all my deer in the bathtub, this past season I bought a tripod for hanging them in the backyard but still love the curtain! Usually switch between the two every couple months. Which do you prefer?
  5. I saw a video of a guy cutting carbon arrows with a good wood file. I tried it myself and so far so good. just make sure you dry fit the inserts and make sure they sit in there real good before gluing them. and do it real slow, don't just hack away at it like a hack saw
  6. This buck I shot last year has real small brow tines, just barely an inch, but he's still a trophy in my book. I'd consider him a trophy even if he didn't have them at all, but I hunt in the capital region and rarely see anything bigger than this.
  7. just get a couple hundred more tomato plants and plant them in a straight line from your garden to your treestand!!!
  8. you should also check the DEC website to see what the odds are for each WMU. I never did until this year and found out that they don't give 2nd DMP's in 4c and I've always applied for them there. would have been nice to know that I was wasting money applying for them all these years. I used to always go for 4b for my 1st, which I've always gotten, and 4c for my 2nd. now I'm gonna go for 4j for my 2nd and try my luck in the Albany pine bush
  9. never heard of tomatoes for a food plot but apparently they work!!! good idea putting it right in the backyard though, won't have to drag him real far!!!
  10. oh yeah I forgot to ask, which bones to use or not use?
  11. another recipe I've seen online that I haven't tried yet but sounds like a good idea. anyone here try roasting venison bones then making stock with them??
  12. saw 2 hens with at least 5 poults in Voorheesville yesterday
  13. probably running from those ferocious new york mountain lions!!!
  14. definitely a must for turkey hunting but not necessary at all for deer. shot my doe last year on opening day of bow after she walked in a straight line directly in front of my stand and stopped while almost touching the ladder. shot all my deer at less than 20yds and have only been busted from movement. staying still is key. camo isn't really necessary either but I like it anyway. plenty of deer were killed before camo
  15. isn't the regular big game license like $22? don't you think hunting with your grandson is worth that even if it is only one day a year? if your that strapped for cash i'll send you the $22. that's actually not too bad considering this is New York where everything costs an arm and a leg. hell, that's cheaper than going to the movies these days!
  16. muzzy 4 blade and carbon express f-15, I actually just bought a mechanical for the first time (wasp jackhammers) and was gonna try them out this year. never had a problem with fixed blade just wanted to try something different. we'll see come October
  17. Looks and sounds amazing!!! And yes, I would love to know your osso buco recipe
  18. anyone ever try slow roasting venison shanks?? read online that if you saw them in half and keep the meat on the bone and cook them real slow the meat is dynamite and you get a small amount of bone marrow. or make like a venison osso buco. I know there are a lot of tendons on the shanks but they said it breaks down actually adds flavor to the meat. never tried it myself but it sure does sound good. any input??
  19. he's no monster but still a good start to the season!!! texas rigged rubber worm in the lily pads, had a couple hits on a weedless frog in the early morning but didn't set the hook right. still beats going to work!!!
  20. gonna go up to lake lonely in Saratoga the day after opening day. have had some luck there before but mostly I go there because it's one of the few lakes around the capital region where you can rent a boat. never caught anything huge but there seems to be pretty decent numbers of largemouth and pike so its always a good time. Texas rigged soft plastics and weedless frogs are my favs!!!
  21. saw my first one this fall but have never shot one, the way this season has been going I would take her. if you got decent numbers of turkeys in your particular area, I don't see a problem with putting one on the table
  22. 24lbs, 1 inch spurs and a 9 1/2 inch paint brush beard
