  1. had more luck without them but I spent the cash this year on the avian x lcd hen and jake combo and they look amazing! think it might have just been the cheap dekes I had been using for years. if your decoys don't work for you, try runnin and gunnin through the woods. that can be a whole lotta fun!!!
  2. pop up blinds are real convenient. just take it out of the bag and it sets itself. if it's not too windy you don't even need to stake it. got a field and stream one from dick's for like $80.
  3. Mossberg 500 pump 12ga for me, 20ga for her. both have mossy oak vinyl gun wraps. just bought truglo reflex sights for both but haven't put them on yet. also truglo extra full turkey chokes. using Remington high velocity turkey loads #6. might switch to bow if we have some early season success!
  4. had some made last year from Route 66 Meats in Wynantskill. highly recommend!!!
  5. I do something really similar, butterfly them and fill them with onions, peppers, mushrooms, garlic and cheddar cheese. sometimes throw in some diced tomato too
  6. Don't throw that shank meat in the grinder, slow cook it and it's some of the best meat on your deer. This came out really nice especially on a cold winter's day. 2 front shanks bacon (cut in small strips) fresh thyme fresh rosemary pack of onion soup mix beef broth red wine soy sauce all thrown in the slow cooker for 4 hours red onion celery carrots fresh mushrooms went in for the remaining 4 hours was gonna throw in some egg noodles but it didn't need it here's what it looked like halfway through all the meat fell right off the bone and all the connective tissue became soft and delicious Finished product did something similar with a bone in neck roast but cooked the liquid down to a thick gravy, I think that was even better but it didn't last long enough to take pictures
  7. I figured because it was Penn State that it would be about abusing young bucks... sorry I just couldn't resist
  8. I hunt my friends property in Brunswick and it's less than 5 acres and maybe 1.5 of them are woods. been hunting there for 3 years now and have taken 5 deer and my girlfriend took 1, all with bow.luckily it borders 2 different farms and I have permission to retrieve my deer off their property. talk to the neighbors and make sure it's ok to track and drag deer off their property, ya never know, they might let you hunt there too!!! you don't need a ton of land as long as have deer moving through
  9. i'll cover for ya, no problem!!! when does my plane leave???
  10. congrats! really cool story. any pics???
  11. http://www.trailcampro.com/ this site has tons of useful info on it
  12. same thing happened to me last year.. but there were only 3 Mexicans!!!
  13. self storage facility. low operating costs and really easy to manage.
  14. gonna post all mine at once, quantity over quality this year but that's fine by me. Oct 5 Oct 25 Dec 16
  15. made it happen for the last day of the season!!! definitely not a trophy but she'll do. hard to pass anything up on the last day.
  16. last chance to dance here in the southern zone, took the day off to try to make something happen. already shot 2 with the bow in October so I won't be too discouraged if nothing walks by. girlfriend might come out in the afternoon with me. still been getting trail cam pics of a decent 8 point and a huge doe so I'm excited. good luck to everyone going out today!!!
  17. someone told me you can use your regular season tag during the late bow/muzzleloader season. never heard that before but I checked the DEC website and it says you can. it says you can even use it for antlerless deer during late season. am I reading this right?? just wanna make sure this is right before I use it, figured some of you guys on here would know for sure
  18. had 2 fawns run by well before light this morning then nothing. let a 4 pointer pass on Tuesday and that's all I've seen during gun season. definitely prefer bow season!!!
  19. you say worst luck ever, but I haven't seen a deer since gun season opened. think you got better luck than me
  20. what's the point of having more than 1 climber???
  21. had a similar experience my first year too. about 11am, as soon as I climb down my ladder stand and put my feet on the ground, I look to my left and a big 8 pointer was staring at me at about 30 yds. after about a 2 minute starring contest, I reach for my bow and he takes off. if I had stayed in my stand for literally 30 more seconds, I might have seen him from the stand. don't beat yourself up over it. happens to a lot of us
  22. cant make it out til noon, hopefully there's still some deer left!!! bow tags are already filled so I can afford to be picky when it comes to antlers. but I still got a dmp tag so I wont hesitate to take a nice doe too.
  23. usually 1/2 hour to an hour before sunrise
  24. looks like you just need to dry off your cuts of meat first. sometimes if there is liquid in the bag it won't pump out all the air. tough to tell from the pic but that's my best guess
