I have quite a bit of taxidermy, usually more than most I see post on forums like this one. So far so good, and don't see them as a burden. I'm fully aware that they are a crappy investment, and will end up in a dumpster someday; but thats not why I have them. I think its how you view them going in that decides if one has buyers remorse.
-
Or you can put it in your hotel room when its raining out since the balcony gets wet.... Just have to remember to hang the do not disturb sign. And leave the sliding door open to air the room a bit especially if you shot a goat. LOL
-
I should add; Not matter who does the caping and if the taxidermist who is mounting didn't do it? It'll never be right or good enough for them. There must be a secret rule to becoming a taxidermist that says you must bitch over the caping job..... Unless its your own!
-
Unless you cut a Y to each antler base (pedicle) how would you get the cape off ? The taxidermists I use are out of state so I have caped my own skins many times. After basic removal turning ears and splitting lips/nose also need to be learned. Roadkill heads make for excellent practice even if does for learning how to get skin off and leave meat behind. #10 scalpel blades are very helpful, pocket knives not so much. Lots of terrific videos on line and tutorials, for example; http://www.animalarttaxidermy.com.au/files/Ears, eyes, nostrils & lips.pdf (hint; carefully read the last page!) Need good clean fine grade salt too.....easy to find at feed stores.

That the forum being talked about? Not much of a loss is it?

Smaller Honda can be converted to run on propane for around 150-200; making them 3 fuel, propane, natural gas, or gasoline. Supposed to extend life of engine going to propane.

You and me both..... I got an envelope sitting here for a load waiting for 2 permits right now and its killing me that I can't send it yet.

More window dressing than substance.... 28 ga Caesar Guerini.

I'll try that. Usually I put the quarters in with tomatoes, peppers, onions and Italian sausage or fry them like chicken wings. So looking for something different.

Theres a bunch of species and this type infecting our squirrels doesn't get into humans.

Went to check a deer stand, repaired a few rungs for the owner, and took the shotgun along. Managed to get on the board with a couple; skeeters' were rough in the woods too. This one on the ground and 2 off same tree. Anyone ever grill a squirrel? I'm thinking marinade and put in a basket type rack.

Sweet pics.

Honda EU2000i here.... Run computer, charge batteries, fridge, a few lights when power is out (fairly frequent here til major transmission line upgrade was done); it sips fuel and is very quiet. Occasionally on a job or in woods for saw/tools and is easy to carry. Good system to drain carb fuel bowl for storage, one screw. I'd need way more if I wanted to run well pump, and a barrel of water covers that.

I have bought from "Linton Outdoors" more than a few times. You could order x2 and 2200 and ship both to compare. Free shipping on the buying end and prompt refunds if you send something back. I've had some good conversations on choosing gear over the phone with them, all the folks there are end users and know the products well. I stole the Badlands 2200 from my guide for a week in New Zealand after using my regular pack for a few days( which was good, a modified GoLite) after we changed camps. Really nice to carry. But it is heavier than the Eberlestock . Folds down narrow, and I prefer a taller narrower bag as I'm not a big guy and don't like things sticking out with extra width. Got a good price from Linton and bought one. If I was going to buy more of a freighter frame I'd be looking at the newer boutique makers like Seek Outside and buy a belt combo that fit better than a generic for heavy loads, then choose a bag option to add on.

NY also doesn't spend all the P-R funds we are allocated.....Just sayin'. And 68 million on 1.3 billion is 5% Just on the Environmental Protection Fund increase, from mostly fines, is more....69 million Not a Cuomo fan. Just like facts and figures. What "we" should really be bitchin' about is why all the ABC soup of advisory boards is run like a good ol' boys network and why private clubs get P-R monies and only have to open to the public on limited services for single days here and there; and get to charge a fee.

https://www.budget.ny.gov/pubs/executive/eBudget1617/agencyPresentations/appropData/EnvironmentalConservationDepartmentof.html Just a starting point for salaries.....lots and lots to follow down the rabbit hole if you start poking around.

Not even close.... DEC budget is well over a billion (!) a year About 42 Million from license sales both resident and non resident (and is dropping last several years) This always comes up....DEC is not a fish and game department, its just a small piece of the whole.

Badlands 2200 will fit a deer and still carry day gear and a rifle/bow very well.

Put more wood in the stove and then use it to mix drinks.

Biggest problem with global warming is that it isn't getting here fast enough.

Forbes near Albany is the only sanctioned 1000yd range in NY. Invited to shoot there just once; fun time! 1000yd range in PA that is open to public a few days/month or was; haven't kept up on that.....
