I was one of those book worm kids who always had an interesting project going. There was a book in the Erie County library system on mid evil weapons right down to exploded views for parts. Used a boat winch with aircraft cable to cock the string. My grandfather sourced that from a junk yard for me! Threaded steel heads on the shafts to get them weight forward. Chevy station wagon....Caprice maybe?.....late 70's?....right above the drivers side door handle. Oh did I catch hell for that one, paid for it too. Built a baseball chucking 8' high Trebuchet (<google that on you tube) for a physics class and launched tennis balls filled with coleman fuel with it behind a friends house. I think I got an A+ for that one as my calculations were good (no flames involved). LOL

Had a decent woodshop to play in growing up. Built a few crossbows with ash bent limbs, but that ended when I put a 1/4" solid aluminum foot long bolt through a car door when I missed a target. Got full penetration though. LOL

So thats what a box of 22 looks like. Been so long I had a hard time remembering. LOL Like the full stock.

I use Sweets. Recommended by a 'smith that built a very nice rifle for me. Nothing to be scared of, just don't want it to sit for extended period and looks like you know that. I use some general cleaner to get rid of powder/carbon; Sweets, and then more general cleaner to remove that......just a more aggressive chemical then what you are using. If the bore was rough and the copper has filled all the micro sized pores and scratches, you may be pulling blue patches for a long time.

OK! Buying Ammo Online Question
Dinsdale replied to DirtTime's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
That shouldn't be a problem; built up some stocks when available from the big places like Mid South. Powder has been a bit iffy when wanting a particular item...... -
Screw the 'enhanced' BS; get a passport. Been offered several hunts lately with free second hunter and quota......could drag you along for airfare money. Or I'll just shoot it all anyway......

I can't believe I clicked on a site with Ralph and Vicki "Give me free hunts".... My favorite hunting couple. You should see those two behind the scenes......oh boy. Anyway, voted for your pic.

Just curious for the non-lead folks out there..... I've done market culling for human consumption where venison was headed to the European market place. This is all head-shot/high neck shot (base of the skull) shooting, actually there is a penalty for the shooter if a follow up body shot is needed as it degrades value of the carcass. That's also true in England where estates sell off venison to the general public, head shots are the norm. Anyway, neck meat is ground and I know we were using some soft South African sourced bullets in handloads and i dropped over 100 animals in an evening mostly with the high neck shot. Lets just say those bullets fragmented as evidenced from the wounds left. Any studies from overseas on this type of contamination? Must be; I've seen local sourced venison in markets in both France and Spain hunting. A Mouflon I shot was on the menu a few days later at my hotel restaurant in Salsona, Spain! (He was damn tasty too!) Culled game meat is standard fare for many places right in the meat case at the local grocery store.

How handy is it? You handle a near 5lb bare rifle with a short barrel and its pretty dang light and nimble! A blind magazine doesn't bother me, my primary rifle has that already. I could buy a carbon fiber stock set for that gun and be near the Montana; but I'm itchin' to play with something different for a spell. Raided the hunt/gun fund for a car last week and need a couple months to get my account back to full and play with something. Of course there are a few end of year hunt deals out there and I already own the rifle needed for them. Hmmmm.

Been looking at the Kimber Mountain Ascent or Montana in 280AI.....for the few ounces(5) I'm leaning Montana for the price difference. I have shot a Adk model in 7-08 and it was very nice, love that short barrel! After carrying a all up 7.5 lb rifle in the hills I'm looking to lighten the load for a future hunt at elevation I have been looking at hard. Only downside I see in reviews is not everyone is accurate, some can be so-so or worse. Accurate for my purpose will be MOA at 400 yds+, not minute of pie plate. Customer service seems OK, but not spectacular. Good package if you don't get a dog. Eurooptic in PA has very competitive pricing; I'm a frequent customer, but the crew there is very helpful to all. Screwed up and didn't buy a H+S Precision offered to me some years ago; but still poking around if the right one came along.

Looks like a good day on the water!

Dairy or beef? More grinding to do on a dairy animal....... Damn, when my cattle were out they plowed through a extensive garden and not only did I replant the whole thing, those folks got any cut they wanted when I had one go to slaughter.

Here's one I can remember; No yellow clothing, maybe comes from the banana thing?. Anyway there were a few trout caught and I learned a bit about trolling lead core line which was interesting. After one, I let them reel and land anything else as i didn't want to figure out the rules as I went......those guys were "intense" about fishing. Like fingernails on a chalkboard for the rest of it......
-
Accepted an invite about two years ago to troll for some trout on one of the NYC reservoirs from some guys working the same job site. Couldn't wait til that evening was over; those two had more rules and superstitions, made for a looong evening. At one point I considered swimming back to shore. Thank god I drove and didn't have to ride with them.

Those head shots are unethical.

Thats a pretty stiff bullet and doesn't make big holes in small or thin skinned animals; one of the reasons it makes a great all around choice from small/petite to large heavy bone tough game. I have the skull from that one bleached; but most Baboon hunting where I have been is predator control and have only had the time to cape one for a mount; they slip quick if not handled right away like most thin skin game.....
-
Not sure about the Gorilla..... But I can tell you a male Chacma Baboon is no match for a 375H&H with 300 gr A-frames. Actually not too many of the troop liked those loads......

Logged on to huntingNY and a 24Hr Campfire thread broke out. You should post this over there.....they love pitbull's are the demon seed threads. LOL I have a rescue pit. Good dog. But frankly the minature schnauzer I grew up with was a total POS that would bite anyone, even us kids. It liked my mother..... I blame the owners not the breed.
-
Any tips on what they are hitting? Maybe poke around with the kayak up that way soon.....

21, single..... And he has furniture to consider? I live above my shop and its 500 sq ft.....maybe I need to buy some furniture and get rid of all the taxidermy so I can upgrade. LOL Good luck on the search, small towns are tough even around here for rentals.

Once you have the bandolier part the holster snaps on, so it can accommodate different holster/gun combo's. I use it for my 22lr and the 44mag. Its odd at first just hunting with the handgun, so use to having a long gun in hands feels like I forgot something.

For a good order of Buffalo style wings you can muddle around my yard for a day on the skidsteer if you want.... -
What's a miss? Never done such a thing.

I have its sister, a Redhawk all blued from the same vintage with similar grips..... Shooting a hardcast 240 gr WNFP, 50 yds on that center target after some sight adjustment. Haven't taken a deer yet; buts they have performed well on pigs and an escaped Angus I had to do in LOL Belt holster in pic but have used a Shamrock made bandito holster more and like that as I can carry under a coat in lousy weather and still have easy access. http://shamrockholsters.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=55
