I had some land come up in a shotgun only county this year and wanted to set up my fathers old smooth bore 870. Went to dicks and the guy put the saddle mount on and scope and bore sighted it for free. I was there late after work and it was kinda nice to not have to set the gun up myself so I could sight it in the next morning.Couple clicks to the left and she was good for 60yrds. Not bad for a smooth bore

I'm just wondering if anyone knows anyone that ever received a ticket for shooting before or after hours???

That's what I kind of came with also Slickbowht. People are quick to look in the book but it's not always clearly black or white.

Don't mean to steal this thread and this is a archery question. but there seams to be some good info from members on here. I live in archery only(8c). can I use my regular tag before gun season? The way I understand it , I can use both during regular season(only in 8c)It would seem fitting to be able to use both during archery.

A mentor of sorts once told me that he never told others how to hunt. I follow that rule 99.9 of the time unless your on my land. This year I was meat hunting and decided that anything bigger than a spike would be a trophy with the regular food source gone and high pressure all around my area. I'll pass and have passed on several moms with yearlings , yearlings and buttons( when they let me know they are buttons) I have my reasons and each hunter has their own. I think a kid shooting a yearling during youth day is awesome and a 40yr old seasoned hunter shooting one is despicable but each their own, I'm not gonna tell you how to fill your tags. And it changes also. I was in disbelief when I had for my area a huge deer come in Monday.I'm talking , knee shacking , hard to breath , I might have a heart attack big deer. Arrow deflected off a branch. I am now a antler hunter, I've worn many shoes in my life time and few things on this planet give you the adrenalin rush that a monster deer will when viewed in your sights. I live, breath, and think about this single deer now 24-7. I will find him ~~~~ and I will kill him.

Sat after opener this was my first kill with a bow, right at the 30yrd mark out of a stand. Tremendous confidence booster and grandma likes squirrel ;-).

Some very good advice ~ but if you didn't have a life altering situation I would check with the doctor why things have changed. I was in a accident and shattered my entire leg, didn't walk for a year but managed to return to my job as a ups driver after about 2yrs when they first had told me I probably would never be able to. I know my leg wouldn't survive another break and I'm not qualified at much else to make the kind of coin I do now from a desk job. So I'm borderline scared of heights now. There are stands on property that I won't go in when I know someone twice as heavy as me hunts out of them.It helps when I myself put up a stand adding a couple extra braces and tie downs. I'll even make my own safety harness out of several hundred pnd rope. It takes me awhile to relax in one but eventualy I do.

Yeah well the dec book can be just as confusing. I can use my archery tag up to gun season . Not during regular season but during late season. I can still shoot a buck with a bow during gun but it goes on my regular tag. I can't fill my regular buck tag during archery season ~ unless I hunt my own house(8c) wich is archery only,then I can use both buck tags when ever I want. And if I choose I can use my archery tag in bow only (8c) during gun season. Now I've read this stuff about ten times and it wouldn't surprise me if I've misunderstood something. Yeah sure the information is in the book but stuff doesn't always jump out at you

Best in rochester but not equivalent to Bass Pro in my opinion. Several 1k to 2k crossbows but only two types of bows I think, most expensive Bear is saw was like 500$ And the archery techs seemed like collage kids that took a crash course in archery the weekend before. You had your choice of several 250$ sights to put on several 300$ bows lol. It was opening day and like I said best chain store in rochester. I wasn't expecting the knowledge of a good archery shop but I was a little disappointed. To be fair a kid knew without hesitation where the fox urine was ;-)

Do you have a zillow app on a smart phone?? Shows property lines very well and your location, I use it all the time.

I think you would be restricted to about 70 degrees shooting in one and it seems I always place myself where I'm looking many directions.To be fair I've never used one or know anybody that has. You could get a pop up for half the price that goes up in no time and be able to shoot threw the mesh totally concealed and bring a chair.

I have to agree with Larry ~ exspecialy being your son I would set trail cams and knock on the neighbors doors ~ probably been some ones spot and their just being jerks. A friendly conversation even if the person doesn't admit to it will probably put a stop to it

There is law about this siding with the landlord. If there is no fee involved it's very hard to sue the land owner. Anyone can be sued but if your property is properly posted ( corners and only every 650ft) it very hard for a trespasser to sue. The law is so specific I wouldn't even bother with extra insurance.

DEC doesn't always side with ethics. This deer progressed so bad with tumors, it became blind and unable to stand. It hung Around my parents to it was unable to leave. Mom called the DEC and they said let nature run it's course. Dad called back and said I'm gonna shoot it and I'm digging the hole with the tractor as we speak.

The older lady next to me fills her bird feeders every morning for the deer. Believe me they know what time breakfast is served!

As my brother and I were having fun taking the picture of our surprise guest, my sister in-law pulls the SUV around back , unrolls the window and whispers " not in front of the kids". After that comment, fearing my nephews early childhood development,my new priority is to take the little squirts hunting ASAP
