There was a post less than a month ago that was comparing climbing sticks, for the life of me I can't find it, if anyone remember and can post a link that would be cool. ~~~~~ Anyways for my next big project I will be building a deer stand about 25ft up in a crotch of a tree that's about 4*8. The tree is huge in circumstances and I'm wondering if the straps would make it around it. The old option of screwing in cut 2*4 is just not going to cut it. I thought of building a more truer wood ladder but really would like to see if climbing sticks are a option. Or any other ideas?

My parents had a forester also. They marked what trees would be taken to actually sustain and better the forest ~ then they bid it out. Obviously your a hunter so I would go with the larger parcel. 15 you may find yourself wanting to put stands near property lines which can cause problems. 40 acres there's nothing like going hunting out your back door now and then

I used to buy just about anything I wanted without question. The wife and I both do well and have joint and separate checking accounts so even after getting married it wasn't like I had to explain myself. Now at 42 we have our first child 4months old. That's a nanny, diapers, education savings ~ have you checked the prices of a good university lately????? I'm a little more conservative with my spending lately for sure

I will gladly pay any import tax if America can compete with goods from manufacturing at least on our own turf. It is one of the prime things that used to make America great in the first place.. I don't need half the shit my wife buys anyways. Go Trump!

Why Tesla’s Model 3 Could Be the New Model T
Jason118 replied to EspressoBuzz's topic in General Chit Chat
There's is more than enough Lithium on the planet to create enough batteries to switch entirely to electric or hybrid cars many times over. the issue is getting enough raw material long term to pruduce batteries on such a mass scale quickly. The top three countries it's found in are very much third world trying to supply first world mass production. It's there ~ just advancement in getting it out of the ground hasn't caught up with demand. if everyone went out and bought a electric car tomorrow, then there would be a issue ~ but that's not going to happen -
Why Tesla’s Model 3 Could Be the New Model T

Buddies father has had one for a couple years. Drives it back and forth to Florida. Goes like 259-300 miles and then there's a charging station, by the time he finishes lunch it's charged up again. It's pretty bad ass ~ faster than most sports cars of the line. Think of cell phones ten years ago and think where electric cars will be ten years from now, they are here to stay -
I'm not going to debate mathematics and science but I do know My mission 400 will put the bolt threw the block at any distance while my Mathews chill won't at any yards.

Not saying it doesn't drop ~ the hang time is unreal. But with this scope it's simple as point and shoot. But then again the scope probably cost more than the cheaper crossbows. I would never try a kill shot that far, but unfortunately some will with a lot less knowledge than you or I. 50yards there is very little drop ~you pick different areas of the block to shoot at ~ splitting bolts is expensive. Ever get a chance to shoot the mission try it. I would have picked out a Ten Point crossbow with less fps but the weight difference was a factor ~ didn't want to lug it threw miles of swamp lol.

I don't know. The half dozen guys we hunt with every one of them very proficient with a bow and half of them retired and have time to hunt every day didn't even go out the first two weeks of bow. We practice qdm to a very minimum of 8pnts or more and most of us are hunting specific deer ~ most not filling doe tags to gun season. That gave us less time to bag a buck of our standards. Your not blowing your stands up killing a doe while your hunting big deer. So the reality is the doe only season had the opposite effect that DEC wanted to achieve. Now this is on private land and a specific group of hunters so yes the variables very. But I bet a bunch of you did the same thing. Will full inclusion of crossbow bring down the heard numbers? Absolutely ~ but to DEC standards ~ I don't know. It's not just going to bring out a few more hunters, everytime I walked into a big box store there was a non bow hunter buying a crossbow. Your going to have I'm guessing 50% more people in the woods for a whole month and a half on public lands within a few years of full inclusion with a much easier weapon and guys who Are not hunting big bucks as much as just hunting anything. Full inclusion is going to happen sooner or later but it's going to happen. I'm for it but I hunt private land ~ on public I wouldn't want it.. They sat threw a gun course eventually they will sit threw a bow. Stoneiam2006 ~ my Mission 400 I shot a 6 inch group with three arrows exactly at 100yrds the first day I had it just for giggles. That's with the 4 wheeler as a rest. Missed the target entirely on the 4th shot and lost the bolt, you set the scope for 20yrds and each line is another ten. Pretty darn easy. Im sure I posted pictures in the crossbow section last year of this. Very top of the line set up but out of the box it sure can be done ~ just sayin.

Show us your pets..dogs , cats , whatever you got
Jason118 replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in General Chit Chat
Tess , found my first pittbull 25 yrs ago as a puppy and a stray driving back from Florida as a teenager at South of the Border truck stop. Best darn dog ever. This one about 14yrs ago I had a girlfriend move out and she took my cat and left her dog. I was pissed at first but she's been great. She sleep between the door and our infant son in the nursery. The half pug half bulldog named Major came with my wife. Kinda pompous but he's mellowed some. The picture of him looking in the pool is right before he realized he didn't swim well -
It's actually on the wett side but enough large rocks I don't think it's ever been tilled If I can throw something down , it's worthwhile

You can tell pretty darn quickly listening into a conversation if a person buying a crossbow is a archery hunter or not. I'm just saying that dedication one has to archery hunting will not carry over for the majority of crossbow in a full inclusion season and that's what you will have rambling threw the woods during the season. The guys I hunt with are all great bow hunters and own crossbows. Your average crossbow hunter will not be that type of hunter anymore. But hey it's only my opinion

I have the mission mxb 400. lighted scope with crosshairs from 20-100yrds. Puts my Mathews chill to shame. Accident with crossbows seemed to happen with earlier models of all types by people not paying attention to their fingers on the shooting rails.experienced hunter in our group almost lost a couple digits. On the older models ther wasn't the safety block built into the stock. Believe there's a couple lawsuits on that. I'm all for full inclusion but probably because I've always had the pleasure of hunting vast amounts of private land. Public I wouldn't be. It will bring out vast amounts of people that never archery hunted. If you don't believe this go to Dicks or similar anytime after October first and see the characters buying them up. Not exactly the type of people that bow hunt

Crossbow only. Love the compound but with the newborn, both of us working 50+ hrs a week ~ very limited time for hunting itself ~ let's just be honest about this question

Still kicking around after season

My Hunting with Lead Bullets Research not a debate

Good read. Having our first child at 42 it's amazing the stuff that keeps me up at night. -
Onxmaps hunt map app is great for this ~ giving the property owner, boundary lines and your location. There's about a dozen different overlays also. I've used the Zillow map in there app before to find several boundary rods.

Bunch in Walworth on Cary lake today ~ to my knowledge first time ever

Farmer cuts my parents old fields that sat for a decade after the horses were sold. Cows will eat it. no or early second cutting so there's some growth come deer season. We're not talking some well to do farm operation ~ I'm sure it helps him out plenty and just the same that it is to us.You brush hog them anyways which we would also do if the farmer didn't want it.

I've been a UPS driver for over 19yrs. Cold yes but two winters ago was the longest stretch of cold weather I can remember in Rochester. Every morning I would wake up and it would be like -12 or similar. Then I would check the weather at the cottage near Watertown and it would be something like -23 and I wouldn't feel so bad and get on my way. I have had lost a few customers in my time to the cold. Always somebody over indulging in snow removal. Not saying any of you are old but take it easy!

He can fill his doe tags and hunt all of shotgun and late season with it if he wishes.
