  1. never hunted with hounds so what do I know but you want to run dogs consistently threw others property that is used for deer hunting during deer season (or close to it)because of a study???? Any bow hunters or gun willing to let him start this summer and during deer season run dogs consistently??? Im sorry but I think you would be hard pressed unless a owner had a yote problem. Ask the first three months of the year we probably would let you respectively a couple of times ~ consistently? No. I know a few posted some very good stories supporting this referred study but I do not believe our land is better off having someone consistently hound hunt it than not. I'm sure there was a study on how making the first two weeks of bow season doe only in some areas would drastically reduce the deer population. DEC should get a refund for that study.
  2. The grizzly set up is why we went with the tow behind instead of a tractor for now. We own a vast swamp land and have dry areas that we tend to that you can only get to by traveling threw some pretty swampy stuff. The kind of land you wouldn't take a 4 wheel drive tractor threw during a dry spell in August. Nothing stops the grizz, perfect set up for our area. Also used to launch some pretty big boats of the beach in the summer. Will tear a lawn up quickly though. Handles snow just as good as a sled just not as fast. there's probably more track area than a regular snowmobile all together. only draw back is the turning radius is about the same as a sled. When using the brush hog we would actually hook up the smaller atv after the first passes because it was easier with the greater stealing radius.
  3. About a month ago I asked if anyone had a used swisher for sale. Well I took people's advice and bought a brand new D&R. Expensive yes but it's a beast. Had Victor Power supply order it for me. Basically it would cut anything we could run over. There was times we had the track grizzly complete suspended in the air on top of saplings and it still did the job. I had bought the heavier blades and had the shop switch them out before I picked it up. Only issue we had was the power switch cord mounted to the atv snapped getting hung up so we ended up mounting it on the machine itself
  4. When I was single I used to take the mail I wanted out of my mailbox and leave the rest lol. I'm a UPS driver ~ if we deliver to the wrong house and a person calls it in we get a trip to the office. I would talk to the carrier first before upper managent. Always better to have a good repor with them than a sour one
  5. I think the farmer wants to lease the land from his brother to grow crops? Try posting in land management forum. Could open up some hunting privileges to land the farmers owns;-)
  6. One dragging , one up front and one on the rear
  7. Thanks G-man ~ that makes sense to me. Given the originals are very old trees that still produce well, though small apples I want to give them every chance possible. I must admit that I'm a little green around fruit trees ~ but wise enough to see the long term possibilities.
  8. Take a look at my post on 'thorn apples' our second generation trees are nothing like the original and g-man on that post and others on this gave a perfect explanation.
  9. I found this one also next to my stand on a new piece of property ~ old timer thinks it's one he lost 2yrs ago , from the good shape the antlers are in I think it's only a year old
  10. I have a mission 400 which I picked over the ten point because of the light weight. I didn't use a sling this year but will next. It was a pain in the butt. I've been a UPS driver for 19yrs so it's not like I'm not used to handling stuff but it was the most combersome weapon I've eve had in the field.
  11. Thank you. So we will leave some where room permits. I would understand if these were true second generation from seed which obviously the way they litter the original orchard they are ~ what puzzles me is that it seems obvious that the ones that grew next to the originals are shoots off of it. If they grew off the old root/trunk system why did they end up thorny ~ almost entirely different ? Not something I really need to figure out , just a little puzzled. Thank you again
  12. Today I started to trim up a old orchard that probably hasn't been touched in I'm guessing 5decades. Next to the old growth trees that look like they were sucker shoots off of the original at one Time. The thing that has me confused is they look nothing like the original trees, all thorny. Neighbor came over and said they produce knickle size apples and are useless. Well obviously the sucker will go , but the ones standing alone if trimmed up , would the produce bigger fruit eventually? Stay or remove?
  13. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Big-Game-Envoy-Ladderstand/43331007Think I have 6 or 7 of these. I like being up s ways and we wrap burlap around them with the gun rail in position. Seat doesn't flip up but you can stand just fine and shoot a bow sitting down or standing up.

  15. Access to some areas are swampy to get to ~ not the actual areas that I would like to maintain. Out of caution I wouldn't drive a ford 8n out back most days to get to some areas but the wheeler no problem.
  16. Steve I saw that 52 inch on Craig's and just think it may be to heavy for our property. Fine for clearing around the orchard but some of our property can not be access without swampy terrain. That 52 weighs over 550lbs. If we bury it deep will our track atv pull it out? Do I really want to find out? The 44 I believe is around 25olbs ~ pretty sure I can walk that right in threw anything. There is a 44 also on Craig's ~ guy bought it from a neighbor, start it with a screw driver, one flat tire, doesn't know much about the age etc etc. still might go look at it. DR is awesome but the price is high ~ unless some one on here wants to part with one ;-).
  17. Figured I would post this here. Looking to buy a swisher rough cut pull behind mower in good condition. Would consider a DR if the price was right. We have 50acres that has not been maintained in decades. Usually I would say to buy a tractor but we have some swampy parts to travel threw and a atv outfitted with tracks so I think a 44 would be perfect. Last day of deer season is the first day of next years season so if this weather holds we want to get down to business. Thanks J
  18. There was a moose in September/October all over Henderson Harbor. Both sides of my family have had several places up there since the prohibition and I never remember any moose stories. No sighting I believe since rifle opened lol
  19. People didn't get states to legalize marijuana by NOT smoking it and Just bitching about the law. You always hear more shots before and after LEGAL hunting hrs just like hardly anyone drives under or at the speed limit. People break laws but you drive ten miles over the speed limit not 110mph. Obviously from this thread some take sunrise and sunset very seriously ~~ I personally don't think I ever looked up the exact times before. I'm one of those guys that drives ten miles per hour over the speed limit with out a thought. SMH
  20. While we are on the subject ~ do we get brownie points for filling them? It's actually a serious question. I've heard of people getting sent a extra one in the mail, is filling them the reason why?
  21. As long as 'up state' isn't northern zone.
  22. I looked at them hard online and went with the mission 400. Reason is there is no Scorpyd dealer anywhere remotely near me.
  23. Given my mission package was over $1800 I still feel inclined to chime in. My crossbow pushing 400fps will put bolts in a 4 1/2 group threw the block every time at 100yrds My bow shoots 320fps ( I think) and won't put them threw at 40yrds. It's not a cure all but it's a much better killing machine than my bow. Given You can't shoot groups at 60yrds because it would cost you a lot of money. Darn thing will out shoot the rifled SBE all day long. Now the guy that goes and buys a $300 dollar crossbow at Dicks 2 days before opening day and never bow hunted? ~ he is going to injure deer. The bow hunter or the guy who puts in some time with the new tool should be proficient out to 50yrds as good or better as a seasoned bow hunter at 30yrds and do it with much more ease. When people talk down about crossbows I always think they are referring to Joe blow walking around on non scouted public land with the stench of whisky from the night before still soaked on his camouflage. The real hunters will have a great advantage. I hunt with some Great bow hunters that didn't want to spend big money either. They do just fine and hang up their bows soon as the season starts
  24. Biz 8-14k for 20acres seems very very very hight
