  1. Four Seasons, Can you clarify what you mean by skipping a week every other week? I am just a bit confused sorry
  2. I was raised with a #5 attitude and I will stick to #5 for as long as I hunt. Any deer will be a trophy to me, I am thankful to have a place to be able to hunt every year. If I get a deer I am happy, even if I only see a tail I still love just being in the woods and with family and friends at camp
  3. If it wasn't a full moon it was really close to it this year when North Muzzleloader opened in Oct. All I know is I had an area prescouted out and everything looked great; hunted my a$$ off all of that Saturday to see a total of 1 tail. That night we had a rainstorm move in and blocked down some of the moon, by 10 I had filled my tag, my brother filled his and I saw 3 or 4 other deer. I agree they are up all night eating, but the snow might have another effect on how much they can feed.
  4. New Jersey also hosts "Unlimited deer" which means exactly as it sounds but you can only take 2 per day, atleast that was how it was last year when I was looking for another place to hunt
  5. Steve I am gonna find you now, I will test my P.I. skills haha
  6. Exactly, find a round that someone can shoot comfortably and the only issue you can't practice for is getting the shakes when you see a deer (or any critter you might hunt) I am a firm believer in shooting my guns year round, that way when the time comes I just pull up and Kaplow without worrying. 3 for 3 so far with a total tracking distance of 1 yard and that was because the twit started to move when I shot. But I will look into the .243 and other rifles out on the market right now.
  7. Getting her a caliber that is more user friendly is in my plans, I didn't plan on her wanting to get so involved so quick with hunting/shooting, So before most of this happened I had already bought her a 22 for Christmas, but I have started looking for a single shot rifle that will be the most user friendly and readily available for ammo for her. But I have to be able to do this change for her without making her feel weaker/less capiable because she likes to be able to shoot everything that I do (And she shoots well, if not better at most), The only firearm she has not shot of mine is the 45-70 Gov't. So any ideas on how suggest a smaller caliber that will work for her might be a thread that I will have to start, if it comes down to it I have access to a 6 mm Rem that I took my first deer with that will work in a pinch.
  8. This year has been a major change for my girlfriend and her outdoor love. It first started this year when we went striper fishing, She had the time of her life and caught the heaviest fish. Well seeing how much she loved doing that I invited her to start scouting with me about behind our camp. This was nothing more then clearing areas for the blind or working on shooting lanes ect ect. Opening weekend of early bear we decided to go pull my camera from the woods and all. She loved bears so the idea of hunting for them was out of the picture so I left my rifle at camp and headed up the mountain to get the camera. After the hike we started going through the camera and it was loaded with every animal you could think of other than bigfoot and a mountain lion. As we started talking about all the critters more and more questions about bear hunting started coming up in the convo to the point that she said one of these times I want to sit with you in the woods and just see how hunting goes and to see if I really could kill something. She didn't make it out with me this season but it already went from sitting with me to "Oh I can handle your 30-06, I just need to take my course" So hopefully in the coming years I have another person to build memories with during hunting season. And to think when we started dating she was a vegetarian of about 4 or 5 years, and now she is a meat loving, sharp shooting, top fishing, soon to be hunter and I couldn't be happier!
  9. Do people really believe the problem rests with Eurasian boars escaping from high fence hunt areas? I would believe that more pigs escape from farmers, which is considered a feral pig and not a eurasian boar?
  10. I mean hahha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Haha they passed this in the 70s or 80s I believe but it is before my time. But someone told me to look it up for crazy laws passed and I just believed them cause it is a bunch of whack jobs up there ha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. It's also illegal to stalk/hunt for Bigfoot in Whitehall,NY Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Because people might steal their hunting spots!? Ha I have no idea, I don't want someone's exact address but I like to have a general idea Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Oh nice, I have a spot that I am able to hunt over in Salem until Thanksgiving, I have seen some bug dear over there Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Oh I see what you are saying now my bad, I am still on the uncertain side if there are resident cats in the state. But I can't fight the facts that they have come through NYS with the evidence I have seen. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. If you read the article I posted, the DEC was able to find hair samples that matched the cat killed in CT and acknowledged that the cat was in the state Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Well I see most posts for region 5 are old and filled with dust. I was hoping to maybe get an updated topic going so maybe people can branch out in different ways and all. So to Start I live on the line of 5s/5t in Argyle, But I do a majority of my hunting at 5H in Forestport Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. I personally don't know if I believe there are packs ( I don't know if that's what they are called or not) but I believe that we have cats like the one that was hit in CT that do roam into the area. We all know some who has seen this or that but what it really comes down to is either a first hand experience or actual hard evidence to make people believe it. Until then fingers will be pointed and the "liars"will be burned on a internet cross for speaking of such devil ideas. Ha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. http://www.ctpost.com/news/article/Another-stop-on-the-mountain-lion-s-journey-Lake-2133449.php#photo-1543099 Talks about the mountain lion passing through NY
  20. The small world we live in, My guess is it was the tiger escaping from the zoo again in Argyle that you saw! (Jk) But everyone don't forget about the mountain lion that went from SD to CT, unless he took a ferry or airplane, He had to cross through NY to get to CT.
  21. I also am interested to find out what you paid for it and where you bought it.
  22. Yea it just worked perfectly for me, Must of been a case of user error
  23. I was having an issue trying to set up Tapatalk on my phone, Is there any insight that you guys have ha
  24. Thanks guys for the info, I am still trying to understand all the laws themselves. I never agree or would practice in road hunting but as a hunter I try and know every law so I will never find myself on the wrong side of it. I always thought the law was stated the deer were property of the state so shooting it was a legal act but retrieving it was were you ran into breaking the law. Also Bubba I thought as long as you are off the road including the shoulder then you are in a legal shooting area. But this is why I consult in people who have years more experience then myself, like you guys so thanks again!
  25. Being they were legally off the road and not shooting from their car or on the road itself.
