  1. I agree but I don't know if I can get his phone number. I found his name and address from the GIS information on the county website. What about sending him all my info and maybe he can notify me by email with his phone number and then I can contact him via phone.
  2. I am looking to get permission to hunt on some land. The landowner live in VA and was wondering if it would be wrong to send him a letter. Or would somebody have something else in mind to do?
  3. Man I step away from this topic for a couple of days to catch up on the other posts AND this is what I come back too. Ok everyone take a deep breath............exhale.
  4. Just helped a hunter down on Saturday who was in a climbing tree stand and his base dropped to the bottom of the tree. He was wearing a full body harness and walked away without a scratch. He was hanging there for about an hour. Do I think they should mandate? NO Should a hunter pay out of pocket (even if he has medical insurance)? YES It is common sense.
  5. A moment you will never forget. I have a couple of years yet but I can't wait to take my two boys out.
  6. Nice pics and hope you get one of them. My buddy had a camera on private land that he can hunt and his camera was off the beaten path as well and he went to pull the card the other day and saw that there was no camera on the tree.
  7. The first animal that popped into my head when I seen the picture was a porcupine
  8. I always try to find my spots with natural openings or old logging roads. I do some clearing but it is minimal. If I do cut down a sapling I will take dirt and rub the edge that I cut so it is not as noticeable. I don't know what it really does but that is what I was shown a couple of years ago.
  9. I take mine out and shoot it once a year and treat it like gold until deer season is over.
  10. Nice deer and yes I think it would be a good idea to take up yote hunting.
  11. Yes they are nice clear pics. Thanks for sharing
  12. Yes house cats do take their fair share of baby bunnies. (I see that mostly around town and not as much out in the farmland that I hunt.) Most of the time when I come across a rabbit hide that is laying in a fence row, most often I can see wing marks or fox tracks.
  13. Fairgame I believe Doc is right. You have the supersportman. As for me I have just the Big Game license. So the only thing I can hunt is deer during the regular season.
  14. Yes there are different interpretations to the laws and no the Law Enforcement Officials do not know all of them. Best thing is if you know your local DEC officer ask him what his interpretation of the law is. (Chances are he will tell you that, this is how he does it but he can not guarantee that the next DEC officer is going to interpret it the same way) but atleast you will get the general understanding for the area in which you hunt the most. Most of your local LEO's are willing to answer you questions and then you have some who just have that chip on their shoulder or are fresh out of the academy who will blow you off or write you a citation in a heart beat.
  15. I am thinking about taking my 6 yr old son out squirrel hunting with me this year. He always runs outside after I get home from hunting, so I thinks his eyes will light up if I take him out with me and have him witness daddy shooting a squirrel.
  16. I agree that the hawks and the fox are the leading causes of small game decline. They need to open a season for hawks are they are abundant in numbers. Maybe it is time to start writing letters to the DEC to implement a season on hawks.
  17. I won't be able to shoot them. Since I am a nonresident big game license holder. If the DEC is so concerned about them, why don't they allow anyone with a hunting license to shoot them.
  18. I am willing to bet that they had a run in with their local CO.
  19. Sorry it is a possible period of imprisonment. Chances are they will not get jail time.
