OLD! Very Old .22's.. Help please!!
loworange88 replied to BlasterMaster42's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Could be an old Wards Western Field. They were basically re-labeled Mossbergs sold at Sears. If you have a JC Higgens, might very well be a Sears gun, especially if all the ones in question came from your Grandfather. -

Missed a shot with my muzzleloader 2 years ago. Got lucky enough to get a reload, and dropped my ram-rod. Dropped my phone the other day, had to climb down and get it, luckily there were no deer in the area.

Pretty much same here in 7F....little to no movement...I sat this morning in about an inch of snow and fog...no deer, last night was same, kicked o e up when walking out.

Elite Guns is located on Rte 11 in North Syracuse. Small shop, but lots of very cool Milsurp items, some belt fed guns, and the like. Owner is very down to earth, and easy to talk to. Also you have Frank's out in Canastota. The small shops are still around, but they seem to be sparse in CNY.

Ground Blind had a musty smell this morning....
loworange88 replied to loworange88's topic in Deer Hunting
Yeah I left the windows unzipped a little bit. I had a concern about wind getting inside it and lifting it off like an umbrella. The area where its at can get VERY gusty. Its staked down inside and we are using the external corner tie down ropes, but 30-40MPH wind can do some damage. -
So this morning I sat in a pop up ground blind that was set up at the end of the summer and has been in the same spot since. Today was my first time in there this season, and when I opened the door flap, I noticed it was pretty musty smelling in there. I was busted by 2 different deer within an hour of each other....luckily my buddy who was up in a stand about 150 yards away shot the one doe, so it worked out to be a good morning. But my question is, has anyone ever experienced this before? Should I be leaving the window or door flaps open some to allow it to breathe? Thanks.

Onandaga Cty here....Took about 5 months start to finish, and I think I was close to $170 when it was all said and done. That includes the $30 or $40 cost of the required safety course that I had to take. I understand Onondaga Cty is getting tougher on the wait now, I hear now its sign up for application...wait 6 months...THEN onto the normal procedures.

So a friend of mine lost his priveledge on a private land due to it being sold. He is sort of out of places to go....minus Cicero Swamp, but that WMU Sucks. I have a honey hole I really don't want to share....as I was brought in as the new guy last season........I know it sounds like a Dick move, but its life. So has anyone hunted Three zRivers Or three mile bay on Oneida lake? I feel I should help him out since he lost access to that private land.

Agreed on these ones personally, better safe than sorry. I do know that the DEC frowns on this, and I think you could get arrested if caught carrying a side arm during bow or muzzleloader seasons.

Well I dont know if they have been tested for a "fall and stop" situation, but given the fact that they are from REESE, who makes DOT approved equipment for trailers and hauling, I'd venture a guess they are tested to failure. When you hitch up a trailer, aside from the ball on tongue action, you attach 2 safety chains as a back up incase the ball or tongue has an issue while driving. I'd imagine that if a trailer came loose from a vehicle there would be some serious jarring, side to side movments, and a very high shock load traveling through the safety chains.

Has anyone ever used these: http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/REESE-Quick-Link-1XUC1?cm_sp=IO-_-IDP-_-RR_VTV70300505&cm_vc=IDPRRZ1 Versus using these: http://www.amazon.com/Hunter-Safety-System-2-Pack-Carabiner/dp/B004SX71TS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1348879840&sr=8-1&keywords=hunter+safety+system+carabiner From what each site says, they are basically rated for the same load capacity. Just wondering.

Yeah, I've heard some of the old timers say to try not to look a deer in the eyes if they are looking at you. I stared down a buck once, while fully concealed....he didnt like that one bit, and didnt stick around to find out what I was. I bet there is validity to that.

Thought I'd open a mock near my stand... thoughts?
loworange88 replied to nybuckboy's topic in Bow Hunting
I opened an old scrape 2 weekends ago, I didnt do anything other than open it up. Hung the camera about 10 feet away and got a few pics of an 8 point checking it out. No scents or lures. -
I ended up using an old electrical junction box...I had to made a few cuts in the side for the camera hinges(it hinges open to expose controls), and then I cut the hole in the door for the optic. I then covered the whole thing in Camo Gorilla tape. Works pretty good. I'll have to get a picture posted.

Welcome, I'm from Cicero as well.

Not for nothing, but did you scour Ebay? Usually you can find parts, sometimes have them faster than from the factory.

Good, Inexpensive Rifle?
loworange88 replied to Dstone001's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I have a Mossberg 100ATR in .270....not a super expensive rifle, but it will hold a tight group out at 100yd and well beyond. I put a Nikon scope on mine, and love it. -

I want an AK.... Closest I have for now is an SKS. -
Hey everyone, I finally just purchased my very first trail cam. I got a Moultrie L-30. Nothing crazy, not super pricey, but I still paid for it. I hate thieves, and I have access to scrap steel and a welder. Lets see some of those DIY locking boxes out there. I'd rather make a solid one, than spend another ~$30 or more for a sheet metal one. Thanks.

Slick Tricks arent horribly expensive either. Generally a three pack will run about $28.
