  1. I had a buddy use the 2" thick light blue foam(same style as the pink foam) for a back stop.....super hard to pull out, and it always seemed to leave blue residue on arrows and bolts....we added a bunch of cardboard to the face, and have a bag target in front, so its much less of an issue than before.
  2. We are on the same wavelength. I think even it turns out to be a tackdriver, I would look at the barrel every single time I use it.
  3. So I purchased a Big Cat 1250. I ordered it from Amazon.com New. I haven't had a chance to take it out yet, but mine appears that the barrel is "bent" or has curve to it. Without the scope mounted yet....holding it off hand, and looking down the breech over the top of the barrel, it seems to curve left. I laid the rifle down on the floor and with a scale, I measured from the floor to the center of the barrel on both sides, and it seems to be measure 1/8" off center. Upon breaking the barrel open and looking down, through the rifling, it appears to be straight. I think it would be noticeable if it weren't. I'm unsure if its the actual steel barrel or if the "overmolded" plastic shroud is just warped. So im wondering if anyone has seen this before or not with these rifles. I can return to Amazon up until the end of May, as I already checked. Just wondering if its worth messing with, or if I should just send it back for another one. Thanks.
  4. So we went for his first time today! We didn't catch any fish, but it was a fun morning and he had a good time. Looking forward to going as often as possible here on out.
  5. Commie-Fornia had/has pump action AK-47's. I found some on Armslist and Gunbroker from time to time. Those didnt look too bad, and they were around $800.
  6. WSYR radio covered some of it yesterday, and then TWC news (YNN) covered it mid day, not too sure about any other outlets. Looked like a good crowd. There was a thread over on NYFirearms.com in the laws and politics section that had some pictures. I attended the previous 2 in Albany, and was not able to make this one.
  7. bows are treated as "fire arms" with in city limits. 500 foot rule applies just as firing a gun, not sure what the cops will do, but if your neighbor presses charges then thats different. I HAVE shot my bow in my back yard before, but I dont like to do it for this very reason. Better to join a range, or go find some state land to practice. I'm not too sure what you can do, maybe go talk to your neighbor face to face, and calmly tell him or her that your very sorry, you'll pay for it, and you wont shoot in your yard again.
  8. I've owned full size pick ups, small pick ups, and small cars. Each one has carried its fair share of deer, gear and family. I stuffed a buck in the trunk of a Saturn SL1 once. Also put a deer in the back of my wife's 2013 SUV this past season(she doesnt know!!). Make what you have work for you.
  9. The spot off 81 in Brewerton is exactly where I was thinking of. I know of a one other dock area up on Lakeshore Drive, just past the country club. I will have to check out the area over at Onondaga Park. Thanks for the tips everyone.
  10. Hey everyone. I have a 4 year old son, he'll be 5 in May. I have been ramping him up for fishing this year, once the weather is a bit more warm, and he asks all the time when we are going, so I think getting him out there will be no issue. I am not a huge fisherman, but I like to go, so there is MUCH I need to learn too. I live in Cicero, and South shore of Onieda lake is only about 5 or 6 miles away. For starters I plan on just going to a "dock" area and fishing from there with him. What have others done for those first few times out with the kids? I want it to be fun for him, and I'm hoping he doesnt get bored after 5 mintues. Ideally if the fish are biting it will keep his interest. If not, I fear he'll bored and wont want to go. Any input would be great. Thanks everyone.
  11. I have the same rifle as my goto deer rifle. Great shooter good luck with your sale.
  12. Hello. I have a co-worker who is interested in the bow. If you like pass me your contact info. He is not a forum member. Thanks. Matt
  13. I have had a few pick ups, and everyone knows the way they work. The one vehicle that carried the most deer and gear was a 2002 Saturn Sedan. Shoot I even put a deer in the back of my Wife's brand new '13 Outlander. Thank goodness for Harbor Freight and cheap tarps.
  14. I'll be out later on for an evening sit...and then tomorrow morning, before I hang up hunting clothes for this year. I hope to see some movement, I havent seen a darn thing since bow season.
  15. I got a pair of Lacrosse 1200g rubber boots last year at an end of season sale at Herb Philipsons for $90. Best boots I've had so far.
  16. Top: (3 layers) Merino Wool base layer against skin, then either under armor mid weight shirt, or a poly-fleece mid weight, then a poly-fleece quarter zip, or a generic sweatshirt. Bottom: (2 layers) usually just Under armor bottoms, fleece style sweat pants, and a nice heavy socks. I used to wear jeans, but the sweat pants are lighter and actually takes less effort to walk. I have a pair of insulated pants, but I feel like the michelin man wearing them. Outer: lately I have been wearing a full body "snow" suit as my outer layer with a neck-gator(worth its weight in gold) and a beanie hat(two if its super cold...yes it helps) heavy mittens with zipper pockets for warmers, and almost knee high 1200g rubber boots. I mix it up some, but thats usually my standard as far as under layers go......I don't care who you are, or what you wear, sitting still in the cold weather for a few hours, you ARE going to start getting cold, we just try to slow the process.
  17. My wife came around......just dont talk about it when she is around, I know its hard, but thats what I did.
  18. Double lung, and the broadhead had just nicked the heart.
  19. Thanks for the kind words everyone. Pressure is off now, and I can relax a little bit....that should make the wife happy....
  20. I finally did it! Lots of trial and error over the years! He isn't a huge buck, but I'm pretty happy. He came in around 5:00, fussed around on a scrape, and I took a broad side shot at 25 yards and missed clean, arrow sticking out of the dirt. Sitting there mad about it, 5 minutes later he came back through, and went back to his scrape, with the jitters out of me by then, I got a clean pass through slightly quartered away at 20 yards, he ran approx 100 yards. Rage Chisel tips did their job flawlessly! Had him cleaned out just by dark! I don't know why my pctures are upside down!
  21. The wind wasnt so bad this morning, didnt see any deer though. Started to get gusty around 9am, thats when I got down. Lots of sign in the spot where I was this morning, I may have to get back in there a few more times.
  22. Im not a fan of high wind either, but with 2 young kids, and a crazy schedule between my wife and I, I tend to take what I can get....I've only been out 3 times this season.
  23. So the local weather here in the CNY Syracuse area and surrounding are calling for good temps, but the SSW winds of 20-30 MPH has me a little nervous. I will probably go out windy or not, but my stand choices are all in the wind, the only difference is one area is in a valley that runs North to South, and the other is up on top of a hill where I had luck last year during late Muzzleloader. I have a 3rd stand option thats sort of in between the two, but I call that my "bad luck stand". Any thoughts on what would be the best option as far as these high winds go? Thanks for any input.
  24. ANTLER INSANITY, is a good one. lets you plot your treestand locations, gives you great maps and marks your stands, allows you to "walk to" your stands, gives sun rise and set times, and has weather built in, and shows the wind direction over your stands.
  25. face mask. Even though it pushes my nose down after a while, I'd rather that, than having to wash that crap off my face....especially if I go hunting before work.
