I'm leaving work today at 130 and off until Wed. Planning to hunt 7h. Shot my xbow last weekend and its in great shape!! Last weekend trail cams had 4 new bucks on them at night, including a very nice 8pt. Hoping that 8pt shows itself this weekend. Good shooting tomorrow everyone.

The "don't move and they wont see you" idea does not work. That concept was drilled into my head about 1980. Good info in this thread, thanks to everyone. I think its my stand placements, lack of cover, inclined terrain. The deer are used to an incline and I think they look up the hill and if I have no cover, BUSTED. Im guessing this, based on what you guys have all said. Ill pick the best cover tree and go with it Sat morning. Maybe move to another Sunday.

Im thinking I must not have enough cover. I Have 3 different trees picked out to climb, one has a bit of cover but its right on the trail. Others are straight with minimal lower branches. I think Ill try the one with some cover and try and blend best as I can. I have a really nice 8pt on cam on this trail, along with a smaller 8 or 6. One other thing I forgot to ask. How you guys get your weapon up with a climber. I was thinking tie a line to it and leave on the ground. Get the climber all set up and get comfy then haul up the line with my xbow attached. Seems a pain to somehow sling your xbow and climb at the same time. Also while Im thinking, anyone cock the xbow on the ground or up in the climber? Seems better to cock it on the ground and put the bolt in after hauling it up.

So I bought a climber tree stand for this season and am trying to figure best way to hunt with it. I very often get busted by deer when I am in a tree. I remain still but somehow they usually bust me. I see these videos of people hanging out smoking, phone out, etc. If i did that I would never see a deer. Im thinking face the climber away from the trail. How does everyone else do this and not get busted?

Nice!!! Im hunting again this weekend. Sunday I will have three hunters on a first time duck hunt. One young huntress. Looking forward to it, but not the forecasted 19MPH winds and rain. Nice looking swamp there. Stay safe everyone and good shooting this weekend.

I've got election day 5th off. Taking 4th as well. Also have 11th off. Not sure if Ill take a day around then or not. Hopefully Ill have something hanging by then.

I am looking for an advisory but have not found one yet. Only thing I found was a Canadian study from 2014 saying eastern mergansers did not have harmful levels of mercury. Any links?? If this is on a warning list, I think Ill pass.. Incidentally for anyone who saw my duck thread, I missed an easy shot sat. Realized I had my full choke for snow geese in!! Put in a modified and dropped this merganser sunday morning.

Apparently very fishy and strong. I just keep hearing the mantra to not eat them.

Thinking about it.. I dropped one on Sunday and breasted it out. Never tried one before but feeling kind of brave. Anyone????

I finally saw two ducks. Way high and not at all interested in the spread. No shots still.

Not one shot yet. Haven't even seen a duck yet. Lots of Bass boats out.

I checked the cams today and see a nice buck from a few days ago at 1130 AM. A fresh rub near the trail cam. 7h/j. Is it me or it looks earlier this year?

Lots of seagulls and Canada's. Very few ducks flying. Fog burned offenough to see somewhat. I'm afraid I may have missed my only shot today

Ok guys and gals. I starting this thread tonight so I don’t have to type so much in the morning. Supposed to be about 34 out. Got my decoys out and made sure they are untangled, back tag is all set, ammo and gun ready.. My lab didn’t go as nuts as she usually does. Good luck to those going in the morning. Practice with your xbow.. Know your limits, know your distances. DO your best to make good shots.
