What bullet are you using this season
Al Bundy replied to ATbuckhunter's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
Anyone using reduced recoil/lite loads? I shot a bunch through my 30-06 last weekend and it was nice not to have my shoulder in pain. They were Hornady something like 139 grain lite. Put 4 all around the red at 80yards. Wife using off the shelf Hornady 150 grain in her 7m 08 Savage. -
Quite a bit of co-op area over that way. Some excellent deer territory as well. Guys hunt the daylights out of that stuff though.

I am actually sitting in the concrete jungle this morning thinking I will bring a bottle of home made wine and knock on his door and ask to have a sit down. It may not be worth it though as despite what apparently is coming off here, I am not REAL worked up. The way the deer run my area is essentially a loop. Come off his land wander across mine, up, turn and walk across another landowners or two, then come down on the other side of his land. So no, deer don't always go in both directions at least on my place they dont. Any rate, only three days of work again this week then off to the woods. Good luck out there.

Posting his land is obviously not a big deal. Draping survey tape across a major trail in an attempt to keep deer off my land is a dickhead move. Period. Plain and simple. Is it his right? Sure. Is it a dickhead move? Y in my opinion. Everyone here bitching about do what you want on your land? Sure.. I agree. Why did he do this? He does not want me hunting on my land. He does not want me to enjoy the land I have using it the way I want. Its funny comment about jealousy and entitlement. Ahhhh not even close. Nobody has ever set foot on his land and nobody has desire. Thats what makes the posted signs laughable. I am content to stay on my place and mind my own business. Does not seem this clown shares that ideal. What would coyote urine poured on the trail daily do. Or gut piles on the trail or who knows what else. Why do I care he put this up? Shows what kind of person he is and he is likely doing other things that I cannot see. I have to let it go as that alone is not a big deal. Just a dickhead move..

Y I don't think this will stop deer, but maybe change their pattern slightly for a short time, just in time for opening day. Yes he's a hunter. A few other oddities that make me wonder. He better watch out. I heard shots that direction after legal shooting hours.
-
So my neighbor posts his land facing my area, though nobody ever set foot on it. Ok fine whatever. Then he takes surveyor tape and drapes it all over. Not done yet, he takes a strand and ties it between two trees, blocking a major trail where deer cross. Only reason to tie acros the two trees is to be a dickhead and block the trail to try and keep deer coming over. Maybe this clown is the reason deer traffic slowed to a trickle for me. Gr gr gr gr gr and more grrrrrrrrrrr.

I figured what a deer would do and found a great spot tucked into the hedgerow. One shooting lane which I figured deer would pass by. Sure as shit, here comes a flat head. doh! She got a fawn in tow. Fawn walks within like 5 yards of me wanting to cross the hedgerow. Momma is cautious and stands broadside about 30 yards exactly in my shooting lane. I passed on the shot due to the fawn. Oh well. I saw deer, had a shot, and enjoyed the afternoon sit. Tomorrow me and my savage will be looking. Oh and also heard two separate shots about sunset. One off to the north the other off to the south. Three guesses what those shots were. For those who waited, good luck with the talking sticks tomorrow. I need a bit of luck myself. -

Got down and checked my trail cam.wind came up from the wrong direction so called it a morning. Trail cam dead. Opened it up and found water in the battery area. Figured rain got to it and soaked it. I decided to make sure it's water. Can't really feel the tip of my tongue now and have my answer. Not water.. Taking back to dicks in a few. This was a week old wild game trail cam. Card had zero pictures on it. pain in the ass to,return but a great excuse to go man shopping. Good luck to all you still trying to fill bow tags. -

Not a fun drive to hunting camp tonight. Heavy rain, some wind and slow drivers. Got here and wind is not as predicted. Going to have to rethink where to sit. Good luck to anyone going in the morning. -
Official shooting times for Saturday/ gun opener
Al Bundy replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in Deer Hunting
Once... a long long time ago while walking to the spot with my father. On opening morning of gun season, on a Monday, when I was far to young to hunt. I recall hearing two shots. There was not even a small glimmer of sunlight anywhere when the shots rang out. Whomever shot that morning couldn't have used the light enough to shoot argument. It was DARK, besides the moon and starlight which really was not very bright. -

TugHillHunter: Cayuga?? As in Cayuga County?? Got any room for another hunter or two??????? -
She is doing well. Not much more yelping when moving around, but we been keeping her in the house, as per vets instructions. Two weeks of bed rest. Follow up vet appointment here in a week or two and they will check the swelling in her hips. I hope the swelling is gone. I read somewhere if the dog stretches too much they may pull a muscle or something. She stretches an awful lot and I am hoping this is all it is. That would be best scenario.

Wife calls me and says shot at one. (Yet another!!!) this a good size flat head. I leave post drive and find her. Buddy joins. We look for blood arrow trail, anything. By this time it's dark and flashlights are not doing justice. She tells me it was perfect, she took her time on this one, lined up nice, felt like a good solid shot and should have connected well. Going back after morning sit. Was actually going to work tomorrow but that is out. Hoping for hair or blood to follow. See how it goes in the AM. -
