  1. My poor lab. She is very gentle and submissive to other dogs. Not a mean bone in her body. Wife and her were walking by fenced in yard with pit bull behind. The pit bull squoze under the fence and charged after my lab. There was literally like 2 inches of gap (if that even) between bottom of fence and the ground. that damn pit bull wanted out and it got out. It pushed the fence outward and upward as it slid out. This is a good solid fence 6+ feet high. The pit bull sunk one tooth into my lab is all. It was not at all bad. It could have ended much much worse. Vet didn't even stich her up as it was not really needed. Owner covered the small vet bill. Now though my poor lab barks at other dogs and whenever we have cause to go by the house, she pulls to go the other side of the road. She has put her paws in to the ground and refused to go by also. Its really kind of sad to see her this way. I am hoping this behavior will pass. Come on duck season..
  2. Went out Thursday evening and caught some oh so nice stripers. Check it out..
  3. My woods are so small if they are there the stand will be perfect. I may spook the birds coming in though. Need to be careful of that. I hadn't seen birds on my land in years but saw them a month or so ago.
  4. Good idea or bad idea? Nice ladder stand in the middle of the woods. I am thinking about going to sit there.. I notice nobody seems to post about hunting from a tree. Not sure why??
  5. My dad had a Case lawn tractor, and a small wagon that was towed behind. Pretty beefy for a lawn tractor. NYS canal was a few miles away. I had a flat bottom Jon Boat, a 7.5hp outboard and the tractor. The jon boat fit just about perfect turned upside down and laid on the wagon. Outboard, cushions, poles, cooler all fit great in that wagon. One day I was at a red light all loaded up on the way to the canal. This pickup pulls up and I see the guys pointing and kind of laughing. I cracked a big grin and was like yup... im going fishin..
  6. I jumped a deer once while jump shooting ducks on a small creek. Nearly soiled.. and nearly shot the deer. I had the gun up, shouldered and locked on without a thought. Luckily I thought and didn't kick off the safety or fire. Also lucky my drawers stayed clean.
  7. I am surprised that little pot belly **** hasn't been taken out by one of his military people yet? Lets keep the racial slurs out of it. Y hes a fat **** but no need for that language.
  8. ..."Think I would stick with my compound bow. Just use to that way of shooting, hunting, etc. Although, maybe when I get older down the road, that might be a possibility? " Might be.. might not be... depends on if others get their way and tell you its not your choice to make.
  9. ......"The old guy with the bum shoulder is kind of a horse ball reason for the xbow. A guy who's shoulder is bad enough that he can't shoot a vertical bow, is really going to use the xbow?" Never heard of the phrase "horse ball". Maybe I am not old enough. The answer to the above question is a REASOUNDING absof***inglutely. I am a guy whos shoulder is bad and I have used and will continue to use my xbow until I can no longer walk, crawl, limp, stumble, stagger, be pushed pulled, carried, carted, dragged, etc to the woods..... "Cocking a xbow with a bum shoulder ain't no fun, holding a xbow with a bum shoulder ain't no fun..." Cocking and holding an xbow with a bum shoulder is more do-able than holding a compound at full draw for a needed amount of time. You also have TWO shoulders in case you were not aware. One screwed up limits your compound use severely, not so much your XBOW use. "climbing a tree with a bum shoulder ain't no fun..." One does not need to climb a tree to shoot a deer . There is something called a ground-blind. Pretty cool invention. You can also climb a ladder stand one armed. You can also sit in a chair, on an apple crate, etc etc etc. "gutting and dragging out a deer with a bum shoulder ain't no fun. Face it, the xbow is for the healthy." Gutting and dragging by yourself .."aint no fun" but is do-able. Maybe there should be a provision that says "old injured bow hunters should be allowed to carry rifles during bow season." Ill vote for it.. I guess injured bow hunters should be rounded up and shot in the pasture. Just make sure you use a cross bow.. its more humane method.
  10. Nobody ranges houses with theirs?
  11. ......"Another thing to think about: It isn't just about human health. If you care about eagles, hawks, etc., the lead in the gut pile is your toxic legacy." If the shot from slugs or rifle rounds is in fact the major source of lead. Not sure that has been established as fact or is speculation.
  12. Anyone?? Thinking of going but didn't see any a few weeks ago. Not sure its worth it or not.
  13. Oh also forgot! Hunting buddy found a shed. Half of a small six. 2 very nice points and a third smallish tine. Hope to see him around in the fall. I am guessing he should be a nice 8 or at least a big ass six. Trout and smelt season on the horizon. Hope to get out for both.
  14. Weather was nice, though not so good for hunting. I did my first coyote hunting, didn't see anything but had a great time. Zero snow geese, but had a great time. Saw a beaver, a bunch of deer, and had five gobblers gobbling at me this morning. Been a very long time since turkey been on my land. Excellent day though the hunting itself yielded nothing.
  15. My hunting buddy up Utica way been going. He got a few in last couple weeks. He said he been seeing lots and they were thick this year.
  16. I feed my lab taste of the wild. She loves it.. Course she eats anything. I was feeding purina one, but that is lots of grains and supposedly read not so good. I like the Costco idea.
  17. So... there it was. I did a double take and a triple take. Watched it for a half a minute or so from the train as we sped by it. Not enough time to get a picture. This was actually on the NJ side of things near the meadowlands. I was pointing and saying hey a coyote. Nobody on the train seemed to be as interested as I was. Imagine that.
  18. Hard work and perseverance paid off. 4 snows down finally. Miserable cold windy wet weather. Perfect goose hunting day though. Hoping snows stick around for next weekend and hoping to hunt again. Good luck to all out there.
  19. This morning was more like duck weather. Rain and strong wind, though temps were high. A few came in kind of close, but nothing shoot able. Going to have to figure how to do a better spread seems like. Ducks did fly but much less shooting than yesterday and not as many seen this morning. Geese flew this morning and we are going chasing here soon. Hopefully will get into a flock.
  20. Well I found the geese and the land owner who promptly but nicely told me no dice. They were without exaggeration about 15-20 yards off the side of the road first drive by. Did end the day with one Canada. My lab made a fairly long swim and earned her room and board. First Canada retrieve for her.
  21. Good size piece of land but very thick bedding area is near the road, mostly. In order to get to trees and huntable area, I would need to walk through the bedding area. No way around it. I don't think this would be a good place in the afternoon, and morning might not be great either tromping through thick stuff. What does everyone think???
  22. Never tried seagull before. Actually never tried merg before either.
  23. Woke up to thick fog. Went to sleep with a cloudless moon filled sky. Geese were flying last night and got screwed up this morning with the fog. A few ducks came in, one merg down. A couple sky busting type shots but nothing great. Heard about as many shots as opener for deer. Going soon to chase some geese. Hope to find some asleep in the fields.
  24. Good point, but my tent has a shit ton of windows that unzip. I can see pretty good, at least while deer hunting anyways. Last few times out the ducks were way way out and only a few came in. Thinking they saw me and the dog. Figured this just may cure that. Its funny.. my little nephew went hunting with me a few times now and said he enjoyed ducks more than sitting in the ground blind for deer since he could see better and was not stuffed in the blind. Course we had 3 people in the blind.
