  1. not looking good for me this morn. cold light south wind and nothing all morning. where did the deer disapptear to.
  2. back out. little wind here and actually a good afternoon weather wise. found fresh deer shit walking to the condo ladder stand. i didnt see this morning, maybe i missed it. if this mornings squirrel comes back he is getting my last year doe bolt.
  3. Back in warming up. Saw a 4 or 6 in a field around 915 after picking up the wife. Nobody saw anything this morn from stand.
  4. not much wind here for me. not much of anything except squirrels. i did see something half hour or so ago. looked like bigfoot but more likely was my hunting buddy wandering. other than this.... nothing. i am sitting in a new spot that does not seem any better than the old spot .
  5. anyone else hearing shooting thiss morn? like a bunch of people thought gun season is open.
  6. I'm heading out here soon. What a cold windy morning. Not expecting much but if the rut is going well maybe see something.
  7. I hope the forecast is wrong about tomorrow. Supposed to be 18mph gusting to 34.
  8. The one posted by Shawnhu in October is LIKELY "Amanita Pantherina", or "Amanita Muscaria". The muscaria has several variants, a yellowish colored variation is mostly east coast and what I am thinking this one could be. The more well known red variation is what you see commonly drawn or seen on cartoons and such. Big red mushroom with white spots. I am fairly certain though its an Amanita of some sort. Be careful when it comes to Amanita. Many deadly amanitas out there and many that would make you feel like dying. I would not eat this mushroom. It was used back in the day to intoxicate houseflies and is reported as mildly hallucinogenic. Supposedly, a number of people claim that boiling this mushroom will remove the toxins. Ask yourself if liver failure is worth the risk. IF IF IF you decide to eat unknown wild mushrooms which is a really really dangerous and a horrible idea, IF YOU MUST... only eat a small amount and leave some for the medics to find. It could help your treatment later. It may also save your liver if you ingest a small amount and get ill vs ingest a large amount and not recover... I love wild mushrooms and used to pick quite a few. There are various Mushroom clubs and organized mushroom forays where you can go picking with a large group and usually there is an expert or two you can learn from. Be safe out there.. EDIT: looks like monkeyman posted originally. And I looked a bit more and feel more confident its the yellow variant of amanita muscaria. Check out this link on it: https://naturallycuriouswithmaryholland.wordpress.com/2012/10/16/yellow-orange-fly-agaric-mushroom/
  9. Y add me to the list. On one of them, the tech didn't get things set quite right. Most of the iodine ran down my arm. I was like hey issue here.. They had to stop the process and then they were like "Oh its OK, some made it in." Test kept going. I didn't trust the results.
  10. I pulled off a few the last few days, as did my hunting buddy. None had dug in though. Reading and talking to docs, you need to be bitten for roughly 24 hours for the lyme virus to transfer. (Note I am NOT A DOC!!) Just read and asked lots as I am also concerned. Both my nephews had the bullseye. You really don't want to be on doxycycline unless you have to be. Another thing to keep aware of is a similar disease, though much rarer and unheard of. Its spreading though. My coworker got it and was in the hospital for a week or two. Its really screwed him up. Its apparently taking a foothold in Long Island, and fire island is apparently a hot spot for this. If you have lyme like symptoms but negative for lyme, give this a thought. Its a special test and many docs are not familiar with this. I had not heard of this until my coworker told me. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babesiosis Be safe out there.
  11. Where is the bass pro going near NYC? I have not shopped much as Cabelas, but bass pro yes. Always thought Cabelas items were generally more expensive plus don't have one near the hunting grounds..
  12. Y I can send in xrays between 24-26 months for the warrantee. I think first I will get the lyme test and if that comes back negative, it will be time for early xrays. Poor dog. She is a great dog and I hope this is nothing more than a pulled muscle or strain of some sort. No duck hunting for us for a while.
  13. I am really bummed. My lab started not wanting to walk up the stairs, or jump up into the car. If she did she made a howling noise, making it obvious she was in pain. I took her to the vet and he said both hips are inflamed and she needed anti inflammatory pills. Two weeks of no activity. How in the hell do you do this with a high energy lab?? I am real worried its hip dysplasia, though the breeder said they have never had a dog come back with hip issues. Shes only about 18 months. Other possible is lyme. I posted a few weeks ago about a fat full tick I found on her. I would rather it be lyme than dysplasia. She had her vaccine though and had frontline on her. Apparently frontline didn't work this time. Vet also said she could have torn the dog version of an ACL, but on both hips? I take her back in a few weeks for a follow up and at that point a lyme test. Not good...
  14. Pretty well dead for me, though wife getting shots. Different four point walked up and nearly spit on her this morn. No shot though. I didn't see a thing. Seeing a few during the day though while not on stand which is weird. Scrapes not touched in several days. Where are they in the morning and afternoon???? Vacation is over today. 5 days three hunters and tag soup. Good news is short work week and back at it Saturday. Maybe things will pick up.
  15. Nothing moving for me this morning. Just finished hanging my condo ladder stand in a high traffic area. Got new trail cam up and am looking forward to some results. Last day of vacation tomorrow. A bit disappointed with lack of seeing much of anything this year.
  16. im heading out in a few. a bit waRm here but not awful. quite hopeful this am.
  17. Warm. im overheated now. got to spot late, jumped something big. just saw body and flag. took my lab to tje vet due to lame leg, why i was late. something not right with her hips.
  18. Wife missed about 4pt broadside. She is usually an excellent shot but this time buck fever got her. I saw lots of squirrels. One climbed up my tree behind me and was frigging around above me. Dropped stuff on my head, my Xbow, and made a racket. I was going to launch an arrow at it but it ran away. So much for my morning.
  19. 7f / 7j... Scrapes and rubs increasing. Nocturnal activity still. Some bucks chasing, but ladies still not interested. Saw two doe run away from an area I saw a buck this morning. Pretty sure they have me patterned. Going to change up where I sit and see what happens.
  20. Saw a few this morning, but on the other side of a gulley from me. A fox came by and I attempted a picture but couldn't get the phone out quick enough. a spike and a good size crotch horn were chasing a young lady who wanted nothing to do with them.
  21. on stand in a new spot. nice morn. very light mist. quiet. come on deer.
  22. I have the shock collar but have not used it during hunting. It sounds like I should step up my corrections just a bit. ALso look into the burlap idea. that may help.
  23. And this picture was taken when I was out duck hunting. How annoying. I am hoping this weekend to see him.
  24. No not "formal". I trained her best as possible myself. She is a good huntress other than the squirming. She heels, sits, stays, etc and is very birdy. I just need to correct this somehow. And the question is how.
  25. My lab is doing quite well duck hunting but she is squirmy. I don't know if this is normal for a dog her age 1yr 7 months or not. I cant seem to keep her still. We don't have a blind so the ducks can easily see her moving. She does sit next to me but then she does things like grab a stick, play with rocks. Is this normal?
