  1. I'm cutting it up tonight after a sitting in the fridge three days and soaking overnight. Some parts are a not so good looking brown color while others are a nice red. Is the brown just where the overnight soak in water removed blood?? This is the second deer I cut myself and not real, sure. Hoping it didn't go bad.
  2. This 10 was taken in 5h at my cousins golf course. Nice deer... popped at 150 yards with a .308.
  3. Not quite a highway, but a main road. This deer was supposed to be my wife's. I told her get up and go but she didn't. This would have been 20 yards or so.
  4. Just got this downloaded from my trail cam. I like the picture. This was the day after I shot my small 6. Makes me wished I passed up the smaller six.
  5. Fairly quiet around me. Majority of shots before legal. I have not seen a thing.
  6. Got to stand finally after dropping the wife at her place. Hope she sees something. It's warm here 53. Sweat walking in.
  7. Oh man... I hope its western 7F. Im 7H bound in the AM. MY buddy did txt me from NW 7H and said he saw a nice buck out in the field about an hour ago. Gotta be going.
  8. Y I noticed same thing, lack of rubs and scrapes. A very few around. Usually many many more. I am seeing bucks on the trail cam.
  9. One of my hunting buddies dropped a 10pt. He said .."Not a HUGE 10pt rack, but the body is huge."
  10. Wow.. I very much prefer Satruday opener. Taking time off work which was unpaid IF IF IF I could get it off Monday. During school trying to get time off. No Sunday hunting was just as bad. Driving like crazy spending time, very limited money, energy for one day of hunting on Saturday. Difficult to justify. Hunting camp was fun but Friday night and Saturday night are still fun times.
  11. Thanks all who replied. I ended up looking hard at this and due to a number of details such as price, immediate availability, and good reviews I ended up with a Leopold 650. I used it a number of times last weekend and it was great. Under 200.00. So far seems great. It has a clip on the case that I clip to my belt loop. I picked it up 2 blocks from where I work. Online order. I walked in the door, went to the web order line, 2 mins later was out the door. Great reviews. I am hopeful. Wife likes it quite well. That is most important. Good shooting everyone!! Edit: Here is the link for it, though I did not buy it here: https://www.amazon.com/Leupold-120464-RX-650-Micro-Rangefinder/dp/B00SBXBMZA
  12. I bought a nice ladder stand at Dicks last fall. I call it my condo. Its in a shitty spot and needs moving. I think I found a good place for it but my hunting buddy says never to face the stand into the rising sun as you become visible to the deer in that situation. Anyone hear this? Does it have any merit? I don't think it does. It really wouldn't be out in the open. It I in a thin woods and below treetops. Some sun yes, full sun no.
  13. Wish I had the luck some of you are having. I did see a yote this morning. Good sized. It was so still this morning you could hear a squirrel fart. I think I did. I heard crunchy leaves getting louder and hoped for a deer. Yote got 48 yards away and was on track to pass within 5 or so yards of my stand. At 48 he stopped dead and looked up toward the direction I came from. He knew something was not right. Walked toward my track 5 or so yards and trotted away from me. Decided not to take a shot due to it being early and far and not wanting to get down and get my bolt. Watched some wood peckers for a bit. Saw one deer far away.
  14. Be careful what you wish for. I saw squirrels about everywhere and nothing else. But.. driving home we saw a monster. 10+ point large body. Walking in the middle of an open field about 945. Seemed to have one thing on his mind.. I guess it's on or getting going here though the lack of seeing anything while on stand sucks.
  15. Heading out soon to a seldom hunted spot. It's a pass through area but sooo much sign. Lots of large sized tracks.
  16. Cold wind tonight. At least I saw a squirrel. Never thought I would be happy to see one. Trying a new spot in the morning. Hoping for a change for the better.
  17. I also have not even seen a squirrel. Nothing moving except my ladder stand when the wind gusts. Sun is out with winds blowing fairly strong. The good news is leaves are coming down.
  18. Sitting in my condo today. Deer don't move by much but hoping rut is on. Wind is strong. Rain earlier. Have not been out since Tuesday morning. Has to get moving soon.
  19. Very nice! You got lucky. Just wait until your dog starts looking at you funny after you miss a shot.!!!
  20. Who likes what?? Who uses what??? Wife asking me how far out into the field she can reach with her xbow. I need a range finder...
  21. Mine I pretty sure is field and stream magnum from dicks sporting goods. its field and stream anyway. Not a top end model but not a bottom end model either. I also sat my brother and 12 yr old nephew in it last fall. It was tight. But we did it. And we saw some does and the 3pt that day.
  22. I bought a ground blind three years ago for my wife. We were in dicks and we stopped and looked at this thing. She asked me what it was and really didn't know much about them. This idea would have been laughable back when I started hunting. So.. I had an idea about them. A tent you sit in and stay out of the elements right?? The more I thought about it, The better I liked the idea. My wife said let's get one. I really couldn't pay quick enough. A tent to sit in that my wife likes and wants to use... RUN to the cashier. I placed it wrong for a while and didn't use it correctly. Took a bit to figure how to use this thing. Even though it's a camo tent, you still need to attempt to hide it or blend it with your surroundings and place it month or more before season. My hunting buddy finally found the spot for it last year. I shot a nice six out of it last fall with my 30-06. First deer from the tent and first deer with the rifle. I also saw a small 4 and a one antlered 3 point out of it. Various does. This year first sit of the year with my xbow, two hours in, a small, six sauntered near me. First buck with the xbow down. Second deer from the tent.... Getting the picture??????? This thing is great and is my favorite spot. My wife doesn't go much anymore in it. I seem to have taken it over. Setup up is a bit of a pain sad to say. Not awful put you have to pull it open. Takes a level of effort to pull open. But.. once per season and that is it. I also dont want you to think it's awful, just more than I would like. I have a bit of health issues sadly but I can deal with this thing. Good luck..
  23. 7h/j not seeing much of any rut sign. Trail cams clean. I saw one scrape this evening, not been visited in a while. One old rub this morning. Deer been hanging out together in the evening in a group of 8-10 on the other side of the field from tree stand. Mix of does and bucks. Grunt call has them raising their heads for a half a minute and back to grazing. Not looking close here. I thought this week would heat up. So far nothing. We marked the calendar last year nov 13th for seeing bucks wandering during the day. looking like that date may be pretty close here again this year.
  24. Y I have bow tag this year and last. This makes about zero sense to me. Thanks for the details though. So this begs the question then I don't really need a mz tag then for crossbow, because I already have mz privs, according to the tag. Wonder if a judge would agree... somehow I doubt it.
