Not sure this will work or is a bad idea or not or what. Its camo, should sit fairly well at the waters edge. Bought it at Dicks a like two years ago. Might be a bit tricky to shoot out of but I was more worried about if the ducks would stay away from this thing or not be concerned with it. Thoughts??

Im planning to hunt ducks Sat AM then cruise around looking for Canadas and or Snows. Everything opens this weekend. What a merry Xmas present.

I know it came up for votes a few years ago and was shot down. Anyone know if it's being considered again or not or ??

Damn... Pulled a fat tick off my dogs head last night. I must have missed one and apparently the tick meds are not doing their job. Second one I pulled off her. I am using the walmart knock off to frontline. I will be switching next treatment to a once every 3-4 month pill. Vet highly recommended it, so hopefully itll work.

Describe the techniques you used to attract deer this 2015 season
Al Bundy replied to Rockspek's topic in Deer Hunting
I know what didn't work. All scents I bought. Doe estrous and buck lure. Never saw anything from the direction of the scents and sometimes didn't see anything when I used it. Also my combo doe and buck call didn't seem to do anything, except maybe chase a buck away once. I grunted at it and it turned tail and ran. -
Where to hunt.. I am like right here. Sitting in NYC two blocks from Penn Station. Maybe Ill have to pop for a Jersey license and give a try for bears next season.

Yup... try a steak, with wild mushrooms. Throw some garlic in there. Do this when you don't need to work the next day in case you have frequent runs to the bathroom. Pun intended.. It would need to smell and look bad to make me want to throw it out.

Brushed the dog this weekend after letting her romp around with me gathering trail cams and such. Pulled about 8 off her and 3 or so off the back seat. Only one found on my clothes. I find they don't often make it to my skin maybe due to layering.

Lots of doe tags left. I have mixed feelings this year about taking a doe. Didn't hardly seen any so wonder if not many around. I will be out though. I think I will check out the yote regs and make sure its open and bring a call to stand..

They landed in there last few years. Farmer had winter wheat in there and had to chase them out. I got official permission this year and now need the decoys. -

I have a field this year to decoy them into. Going to pick up some, though don't have cash for a huge spread. Never decoyed snows before and very rarely decoyed canadas. Not at all sure what is best and where prices are best. Anyone??? -
Remington, Ruger, or Savage?
Al Bundy replied to Steuben Jerry's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
This the one you mean? http://www.basspro.com/Savage-11/111-Trophy-Hunter-XP-Rifle-with-Scope-Combo/product/1204110500547/ If so, I own this bad boy in a 30-06. Also if so 400.00 is a great price for that. If its not the exact one, then Ill cast a vote for savage. I am not an expert by any means, but this rifle does its job and "feels good" on my shoulder. No complaints really. I don't use it for 200+ yard shots. Mostly I use it in close ranges 100 yards or less. I did an impulse buy, which is something I never do. I saw it, wanted a rifle, it was on sale and was a southpaw which I wanted. I grabbed it up. No complaints except I should have held out for a 7mm08. The kick with my RA infested shoulders is not fun. I have owned it 2 seasons now and popped its cherry a few weeks ago with a very nice 6pt. First season I didn't even see a deer to shoot which is another story. Good luck and I would think you cant go wrong with a Savage, or the others for that matter.. EDIT: Let me add one thing. I have a youth savage axis in 7mm08 for the wife (pink camo.. nice gun for her) It is not an accutrigger. Unless you want to work on the trigger, hold out for a savage with the accutrigger, if you go for Savage. Her trigger was something like 9 lb from the factory. Its an easy thing to cut down, but makes me nervous and still is not as good as my factory accutrigger even after "adjusting". -
Good stuff here. I knew they roamed, but I thought they stayed closer to home than this. It somewhat concerns me as I saw very few does this year where I had him on the trail cam. Hoping he didn't have to go outside a normal range due to lack of does. HIs body was somewhat small for his rack. I am guessing he was looking hard for a doe and his body went downhill from it. Ill get the trail cam photos this weekend and do a side by side comparison.

My wife has a nice youth 7mm08 and that thing has a crazy muzzle blast. Its also pretty LOUD. Seems louder than my 30-06 and seems more of a muzzle blast. But maybe its because I am shooting my 30-06 while watching her shoot the 7mm08. She has yet to shoot at something with it. She usually gets something with the XBow and does not hunt hard during gun season.

Its looking like the buck I got this year was on my trail cam, 2 miles by car from where I shot it. Even further as the deer walks. Not quite certain but they look very very close. I would not have thought they travel quite that distance. Anyone seeing ranges this distance?

End of season for me today. tried out a new spot and had only a pajr come in. two shots and two ducks down. my lab was watching and sadly broke when one splashed down. she made a nice retrieve though. the duck still had a bit left in him and was flapping around. my lab hndled it great and made a few passes at it and grabbed it by the neck finally. flappping didnt seem to bother her. overall happy though vot to work on the breaking aspect.

What bullet are you using this season
Al Bundy replied to ATbuckhunter's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
My hunting buddy sighted in my Savage with 180 grain bullets at 160 yards the other day. Inch or two grouping at that distance. Not sure from what company they were from. He also shot 4 or 5 rounds of the Hornady 125 grain reduced recoil at the same 160 yard range. Great grouping, few inches, only the wind pushed them to the right nearly two feet. -

Finally.. Wow. What a good morning. So I'm sitting in my ground blind and I see movement off to the right in some thick shit maybe 40 yards. After a second I see a deer materialize and see horns (more than one..). I shoulder my 30-06 and click safety and I look through the scope and I'm right on him. He stopped in his tracks for me and I took a breath and touched off a round. He bolted and I said some very naughty words. I saw him run maybe 10 yards and lost site of him. After sitting a bit I went to look for blood. I had the angle marked well but not the exact spot after a few mins of searching I was not happy. Luckily.. I found hair, but unluckily it was all white. I spent some time looking for blood but not a drop was found. I was on his trail as I could see disturbance in the leaves. No blood. by this time I see Orange the direction the deer ran and I'm confused and the deer should have run by this guy. No shots so I started to crack a bit of a smile. He might just be down here somewhere. Where I hunt is a steep gulley and I go to the edge and peek over and see the deer laying there!!!! It sees me and more not so good words, it gets up and tries to scale the other side of the gulley. It's not doing well but well enough so I touch off another round and it falls. Head still up I sit there and head falls.. Woo hoo. Lessons.. I need more practice with my 30-06. I only found one hole so far. behind the vitals and low. Just barely a gut shot. That may have been second shot though as it was kind of moving and at a weird angle. Not sure yet. Literally barely gut. When I opened it up I think I hit the stomach. Corn was present though not much. It did not smell horrible. Just a trace of corn and small amount of green. Very small. This is the largest buck I've gotten and first with 30-06. Don't beat me up real bad.. I have shot and can hit target pretty well. Buck fever gets me. Here he is... Edit: the deer stopped I think due to making the hunter. I think that deer was seconds away from bolting.- 4994 replies

three shots this morning one likey from ducks. saw one doe but gave her a pass. windy but warm. -
Last weekend in the wind my stand would make a metallic noise when the wind gusted. Wind supposed to be even stronger in the morning. Wondering if this noise would spook a deer or not. Yes under calm quiet conditions I know it would, but with the wind howling I am thinking I'm ok. The noise is the climbing sticks flexing I think. Not real loud and not prolonged, but it can be heard. Anyone think this will spook the deer??
