  1. Maytom , out 11x and played with birds 3x I'm feeling like a complete novice this year. Moon , hens , temps , I can't figure it out. Do you have a Cabela's strut chair or similar ? It saves these achy bones Still having fun but thinking my gun is defective , as it doesn't make noise. Live for the month of May but gotta admit I'm bewildered
  2. Just got home from morning hunt. Friend took me to a woods I've never been to before. Gorgeous morning out and pretty woods. Both can't believe we didn't hear a gobble throughout the hills. It was dead silent out with no wind. Called in lone hen as we stood on trail trying to fire up old tom . Caught with no headnets on as she clucked and purred her way into 25 yards or so before she saw us. She was calling so soft it sounded a few hundred yards away at first. Caught one look of my ugly mug and putted and took to wing. Saw a few birds in field mode on the way home. Day #11 complete. Work at noon tomorrow so ah what the heck. I'll give it a go.
  3. I bumped a big doe today on my way out of the woods. Mayapples and Indian polk made for great ground cover to hide a little one . I looked hard for a half hour looking for fawn(s) After seeing your pics I was determined. Scored a big fat zero on my hunch. Love the pics wooly. Thanks for sharing. I always show the wife and daughter as well.
  4. that my friend wins the internet
  5. New Belgium has distro to NY now
  6. oh , I call in a lot of crows with it but no shock gobbles. I hit that thing so hard I swear I lose 5 pounds Hooter and gobble call been dry too. I'm demoting myself this year to novice turkey hunter Does the Buffalo zoo have turkeys ? I could stand a chance there ????
  7. 10th day today. Played with birds and heard them talk only 3. We know there are birds there but not talking for us. Not even on roost. Other side of road on that hill has had birds ripping every day and all day. I'd say the bird population and activity a little down from years past. Tomorrow I'm going elsewhere and stare at new trees.
  8. nor I. But only but a few times has it worked over the years. Seems like when they're quiet , they're quiet.
  9. Almonds sautéed in butter and dry rub first
  10. You know you've spent a lot of time in the turkey woods when at home (in village ) I hear a crow sound off and listen for a shock gobble
  11. Lawnmower beer. Hey Zem, notice the real glass ?????
  12. Ants , great read. Thanks for the laugh. You're on birds. It'll happen soon enough.
  13. With all this excitement going on I don't think I'm going to hit the 12 o'clock buzzer today. Was tempted to take my first ever nap in the woods.
  14. Birds across street are going insane. I try and tune them out as it only pizzes me off. 2 bucks with little headwear starting in field.
  15. Giving day #10 a whirl. It was like a game of frogger on my hour drive. Dodging deer , coon , fox and then 2 litters of fox pups within a mile of one another. Little ones scurrying all over the place. I do believe 2 longbeards daughter and I had in field during youth hunt are silent as group of 4 jakes have put a whompin on them. Well it sounds good on paper. Let's see what today brings ...
  16. indeed they are. I can't stand yogurt either but the spicyness of the wings they pair up well.
  17. New Belgium ? If so I heard distro just started here.
  18. Berbere wings at Yelling Goat with honey yogurt dipping sauce. Tuesday ritual
  19. ants , I bet he heard hens that you couldn't The hen that I had stroll up to feed with my dekes the other day was unheard to me until she got inside 35-40 yards Them things talk soft at times. For what it's worth I ditch the yelp once tom is inside 150 or so and go soft clucks and purrs around the side of my leg. I've been humbled all year so my opinion don't hold a can of beans You had some fun and that's what it's all about .... Almost lol
  20. Watching tom and 4 hens waaaay off on other hill. 10x42 binocs come in handy. Heard 2 shots over there. At 8 and 9:30. Birds have been lighting it up over there and still. Sun gets that hill more than mine. Always birds there.
  21. Sorry but not buying the bug thing folks. I've dealt with but only a few black flies one day so far this year and have hunted a lot. You're clad in headnet and gloves. A little Off is all I've ever needed. Mind you it's usually 6-7 degrees cooler here than at home Obviously this year has been cooler than previous years but never once have I had them drive me "buggy " Haven't even seen a skeeter yet.
  22. A good number of crows have a raven treed 1 tree over from mine. Cmon ?! Not one shock gobble from this commotion Crazy songbirds all around. Way too many warblers to try and figure out what kind they actually are.
