  1. I dug out a dead lilac bush 2 years ago. It wasn't as well established as yours sounds. Have fun , nice root system and ours was tucked up next to the house so couldn't dig from house side out. Oh yeah , I think I picked hottest day of the year so you may be on track with that project this weekend too ????
  2. daughter and I had this discussion on way home today. What's everyone's thoughts on birds avoiding fields as those dark feathers will suck in the heat ? They need to keep cool like any other animal. Staying in darker depths of hardwoods and near water sources ? Do you think they'll be hanging out by Six Flags/Darien Lake water park ? ???? My neighbors are headed there now so I'll have them scout for us ????
  3. Excuse my total ignorance but are these escaped domestic birds ? Only 2 houses in vicinity and doesn't appear either are farms. These were 2 birds I saw in field other day. Actually Jake not long beard as thought. He wouldn't stop yelping until daughter says " can I putt him ?" He stuck his head up in the usual " aw crap look ".
  4. Live from Hogan's deli/ mini mart in Java on the way home. Thanks Law for the suggestion. Fried bologna , garlic bread w/cheese and daughter had a Mexican chicken melt. Oh yeah , great tom sighted mile down road from where we hunt. Crossed road 100 yards in front of us. Subaru almost went four wheeling to get him. That bastid
  5. man that's risky with all them eyes out there and crunchy with no wind to boot. But you're right, time to pull out all the stops. Frank's hot sauce on tags and tags still eat poorly Our field would be perfect for a belly crawl to hung up birds.
  6. hope the hens hang close to you, live bait ! For what it's worth I'd scratch , maybe reallllllly soft purr Then again I have both tags in my wallet.
  7. Brother was just telling me about a bunch of coyotes in NYC , Chicago and big cities. Like a lot of them. They've tried radio collaring some to track them but having troubles catching them.
  8. try scratching yet ? Got dekes and they're hung up ? Shoot one in the beak would ya. Deer about 20' behind us blowing. Great ...
  9. All is quiet up here so far. Cuckoo down the hill and a few deer in field.
  10. Day 16. Little turkeyfeathers with me today. Hunting til 10 or so then she's got 3 hours of ballet. Good luck today everyone.
  11. It may go along when I carry my ML ( don't even tote the shotgun during regular season any more ) or just may take it by itself a day or two. Woods I hunt usually only offer deer inside 75- 100 yards tops. Some are shot stupid close to stand or blind. I could see how scoping it would make it cumbersome . Haven't shot iron sights in a long time, I'll need some practice of setting the pumpkin on the post. Larry, what hunting ammo you like for yours?
  12. I haven't even needed to stuff any ammo in my turkey thumper this year so no misses.......yet. But hunting the next 4 days so I've got time for failure. The next 3 with my daughter. I'd really laugh if she hammers one and I botch up a double on these 4 jakes we've been encountering.
  13. Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 mag What a PITA to get person to person sales transfer however. There's only but a couple of places in WNY that'll even do it. Getting the ball rolling after the holiday weekend. Current owner has had since late '70's and used twice deer hunting and some competition shooting. Had some trigger work done, boy is it sweet . Put on Pachmayr grips too. Gun is in pristine condition. Any deer hunting ammo suggestions ? I did a little research and saw Buffalo Bore Deer Grenade +P got great reviews. Have all summer to practice with her. Now I have to find a holster for it. Optics ? yay or nay ?
  14. Finally gone ?! 53 pages and going strong
  15. I just looked on Seekabrew.com and saw Boulevard/Catawa/duck-rabbit/Hoppin Frog and jolly pumpkin as a few. Look up those breweries on beeradvocate to look at styles you may want/like
  16. Anyone ever hunt the park for spring birds? Many birds ? Many hunters ? Might just try and book a cabin soon for next Memorial Day weekend. Daughter , wife and I for the camping and daughter and I to hunt. Can bag that idea. All 648 sites all booked already next year
  17. Upstate brewing common sense. I have none but the 16 ounces I just drank
  18. Venison marinated in soy , brown sugar , minced garlic , minced ginger , splash of lemon juice and pineapple on skewers. We love this
  19. Dang Grow , what don't you plant ?! Impressive.
