You can hunt with a hammer on Shelter Island.

Is anyone familiar with this area? I saw an ad for a hunting camp for sale and was wondering if anyone has hunted the area. Thanks.

I hate to let facts get in the way of another gun-lover attempt to demonize the enemy. But, most of that story about Soles' voting record is inaccurate. Do a little research beyond the propaganda headlines. Soles had A and B+ ratings from the NRA throughout his long tenure in office. -

Always funny to me how extremists need to speak in 'absolutisms' and generalities. -

You're all hypocrits. But, keep patting yourselves on the back for agreeing with each other and make sure that you don't take a second to consider if anyone of the statements in the original post actually apply to conservatives/republicans/patriots, or whatever it is you call yourselves. -

Generalizations are easy comedy when aimed at the right audience. -

I don't recall anyone calling for outlawing ALL guns, or outlawing meat. Great point about a gay person having the audacity to have his/her rights protected by law. How many Republicans have declined Medicare or welfare when needed? Wasn't it under the Bush administration that Howard Stern and his employer were fined millions of dollars? Why didn't the FCC just 'switch the station'? Foxworthy's statement was just a bunch of red meat for the wing nuts in his audience who eat this nonsense up and never question their own hypocrisy. -

Foxworthy is a comedian. His attempt at political commentary is funny- even funnier because it was probably meant to be taken seriously. -
Does anyone hunt in the Cooperstown area? I'm thinking of looking for a new place to hunt and am curious about this part of the state. I'd appreciate whatever advice anyone could offer.

Climbing sticks/separate sections/screw in steps?
virgil replied to nybuckboy's topic in Deer Hunting
I've been using sticks for a couple of years and I think they're the greatest things going. They're lightweight and packable and they give you the option to hang a few stands in the pre-season and decide which one to use on the fly. They're quick, easy, and quiet to use. -
No, you're right. It wasn't legal. That's why we no longer hunt there. All the while we were hunting there, we were assured by the bay constables that it was okay. The DEC guys even said it was ok. But, eventually we were told that it wasn't.

I used to hunt timber point until a couple of years ago. It was incredible. We were always a little unsure of the legality. But, the bay constibles that are right there never gave us a hard time. We used to hunt right on one of the fairways on the blue course. We'd put out goose decoys and we'd flag and call them in from all directions. We'd kill brant and the occasional puddle ducks. We even got a couple of snow geese one day. We used to bring shovels and clear away the snow to open up a grassy area for birds to land. Eventually we were told that we were not allowed to hunt there and we haven't been back since. But, it was amazing while it lasted. It was also especially cool because I grew up in the same town. So, it was really convenient.

I have a pair of the silent suede bibs with the dry-??. They're great. Really warm and quiet. I pack them in my bag and put them on in the stand. I just got a catalog in the mail and saw that they're on sale now- i think about $60 off.
