  1. I tried them on a couple different pistols and never liked them not being in a holster. It was very unnerving knowing nothing was covering the trigger. I also didn't like the amount of lint and crap that ended up in the guns from being worn without a holster. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. If you like the 7 mm rem mag but like the recoil of the 7mm08 why not split the difference and get something in 7mm express Not much slower than the mag with a lot less recoil and better velocities than the little 7mm-08. The great thing about rifle cartridges is we really can have our cake and eat it too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Now that's a guy I could get along with! Let me guess he drank Busch beer too? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. The only thing that's the same is the projectile. The 7mag has a case capacity of 82 or 83gn h2o, and I'm pretty sure 280 is about 68gn h20 its at least 12 or 14 more grains capacity. That's what gives it its 150ish fps gains over the 280. Really negligible gains but it the 7mm has magnum in the name and that sells. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Awesome! I'll have to find a few boxes! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. The 30-30 is nice and it looks good in the cabinet beside the savage 30-30 bolt that I have "can't think of the model." As far as practicality I don't know there are better choices, but they are cool to me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Even though I have no real attachments to 788 I have always loved the utilitarian looks of them. I bought one in 30-30 10 or 12 years ago because I had never saw one in 30-30 before. The same family I bought it from also had another in 44mag for very little money but I passed because I couldn't imagine why someone would want a rifle in 44mag let alone a bolt rifle. Now I own about 10 pistol cartridge rifles and one of them is a Ruger 77/44 bolt 44 mag and I would pay 4 times what they were asking then for that 788 in 44mag. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I don't like any magnification on a lighted reticle. To me they just don't work well. And at 1.2 and 1.3 lbs that's a little over double what most 2-4x fixed scopes weigh. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Oh they're there for sure! It's the finding them that's tough, its big country. I spent a little over 40days at my camp this past deer season and saw 1 turkey and that was from the road. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. That is where my camp is. Turkeys are coming back but still very sparse. If I was planning a trip up there it would be for deer not turkeys because I think there are more deer than turkeys and that's not saying much. As far as the land goes until you get onto state land it's all been logged so it's thick but early May isn't bad because leaves aren't bad yet. I have hunted turkeys up there a few different times and killed a decent gobbler and that's the only bird I have ever heard and he was along ways from me when I heard him the first time. After a long hike I heard him again and he was still along ways away he was working away from me. I killed that bird over 3 miles from where I was when I heard him the first time. It's a blast hunting up there because its beautiful country and if you can find a bird they are easy to kill as there is virtually no hunting pressure on them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. I don't have any doubles in shotguns. My 500's ones a 12gaturkey thug with an 18" barrel one is a 20ga turkey thug, one is a slugster and one is tactical. But to be honest I just collect them. When I see a good deal on a gun if I have the money I buy them. It's my retirement plan. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Being surrounded by hobby farmers I have saw a bunch of domestic turkeys over the years. I know of one tom that was shot on opening day a few years ago by a neighbor. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I'll probably wait and put it in in the fall. My soybeans hold deer all spring. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I was just kidding with ya grow, we both got great deals! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. That's an awesome gun! Almost all of those guns were bought when I was a kid working on a dairy farm. My father was always buying and selling guns and taught me a lot about the dealing of guns. The only problem is I'm a way better buyer than seller. He would always ask me before buying "can you sell it for more than you're buying it for?" If the answer was yes he would approve. 16. They got you! I was at tractor supply yesterday getting a new battery for the tractor and they had them for 5.99$ they only had 7 so I got them all. Even if I only get 80% yield it's a good deal. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I love root beer, it's about the only soda I drink but I can't stand any of the hard root beers. I have tried them all because I want to like them but I just can't. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Now that I think about it 20 is probably a low number. Let's see I have 6 870's 4 500's 2 1100's 2 1187's an 835 a Benelli a franchi 2 1300's 3 H&Rs a couple old side by sides 2 savage 24's and a 42 a red label and a citori a maverick over under. I'm sure I'm forgetting some and the 8 or 10 that dad had. I guess 40 would be closer. I really have a problem no wonder my wife complains every time I come home with "more guns." 19. Today was my Dads birthday and it's been a tough one. With the fresh snow I decided to go for a walk. When I went to get a gun it was a no brainer. This old 870 youth model is my gun. Although I have 20 other shotguns this is the one I use 99% of the time. Dad bought me this one for my 8th birthday. He got it used from a guy at work. I have killed an ungodly amount of animals with it from chipmunks to deer. It's got scars from many adventures that it wears beautifully. I remember sitting with dad when I killed my first turkey with it and him sitting me on the rock wall when I killed my first deer with it. I remember my first kill was with this gun when 2 squirrels ran by and I got them both with dad by my side. I type this as I sit under the old mans favorite tree stand with it in my lap and tears in my eyes. This old gun isn't anything special just an 20ga 870 express youth model but it sure is special to me. If times ever got tough and I had to sell my collection of guns I would starve to death before this went anywhere. What's everyone else's "gun?" Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Not much of a story sitting on couch at camp after lunch looked out window and there was a buck 50yds from camp. Cracked the window and dropped him. It was a funny story but certainly didn't make me proud and I'll never do it again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. 270, 280 and 30-06 recoil is very similar until you get into the heavier 06's Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Not any superstitions but I have killed all my deer but one when I wasn't sitting on the couch, so I guess I try not to hunt from the couch as much as possible. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. I'm not sure but I think VT wants them out in 1 piece for weights and other info. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. I know in Vermont and New Hampshire that having them dragged out by horse is the most common. They advertise in the regs books. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. The old man wasn't too sure at first but now he loves the little fella and has been bringing him his toys all day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
