You are correct. I don't go sit in a treestand without a weapon. Doesn't mean i don't enjoy the woods. Who hunts and doesn't enjoy the woods?

Dang, I haven't gotten that many bucks on camera since i put them out in October.....

They are the only thing i hunt besides Turkey in the spring....

I don't know if i will get out or not but i like the idea of a late season. You guys complaining about the deer heard, not all guys fill all their tags. I can't remember the last time i shot a doe but i have a tag. I filled my either sex tag with my crossbow on a nice buck before rifle. I have been out every weekend since then. I let several small bucks and doe walk. Hunting isn't all about killing deer. Its being in the woods, hunting with family and friends, watching the sun come up, seeing something cool like a bobcat, fox or black squirrel. If i get another day or two doing that, I'll take it. Especially since there isn't any snow for snowmobiling yet....

I had some highs and lows in 2021. Found out my mom had breast cancer which thankfully was successfully removed and with a few bouts of radiation her outlook for the future is great! My daughter and I both got and got over covid and fighting it was about what i expected. I spent a lot of time on the boat this past summer which i love doing. I met a couple more people on this forum, @518BowSlayer, @Buckmaster7600 and @UpStateRedNeckwho were all great people who i hope to meet up with again sometime. Speaking of that, I would love another shooting class @Buckmaster7600! That was a highlight for me that i enjoyed! I killed my biggest archery deer with my crossbow (a 9pt with no browtines in the harvest thread) So even with all the BS going on, I'm sure we can all pick out some positive thing about 2021. I hope all of you can!

I have never seen a buck (even a spike) in the late season. Won't stop me from trying to change that....!

I was trying to get my Christmas shopping done last Sunday before the mask mandate. I walked into back yard birds to look for a bird feeder for my mother and was asked if i have a mask. I said heck no....She went to hand me one and i said not thank you and walked back out. IDK what the markup is on a bird feeder but they lost out on it.

I'm afraid it's engrained in me but hopeful i can fix it at some point. My bow is the one thing i don't flinch with. I assume that is just because it is totally different than holding a gun.

I started deer hunting when i was 16 (32 years ago). My father bought me a Remington 870 12 GA. I was probably 5'5" and maybe 140 lbs at the most. I developed a terrible flinch shooting that gun that i still struggle with today. I still have that gun and i hate it, even though i killed my first few deer with it. I thought I had it under control but last weekend I proved i don't. If I have time and i talk myself through the shot and tell myself the squeeze the trigger i don't flinch but if things happen fast, i still do it. We were doing drives and a coyote was running right at my. I shouldered my rifle and pulled the trigger with the safety still on. The gun might as well have recoiled my flinch was so bad. I clicked the safety off and shot the coyote and two minutes later another coyote came running the same path and i laid that one out too. I just can't seem to kick that terrible flinch unless i am thinking about it. Doesn't seem to matter if i am shooting my .308 a .22 or even my crossbow. That stupid flinch comes back anytime i take a shot and I'm not talking myself through it....
