  1. When you ask to be beamed up, you must be very specific about your location! No idea what that first pic might be. Camera glitch maybe. Could be the Sodus Point Bay Ox though.
  2. I'd pay money for the debate, just to watch how big a condescending, patronizing azz Schumer could make of himself. Wish I had more money.
  3. Good point Bubba. Damned if you do and damned if you don't. I'm doing some carpentry work tomorrow for a retired state police captain. I'll ask him about it.
  4. Crappy pic, but I thought it was cool. Just trying to keep up with momma.
  5. I've had a few moths leave those pics as well. I wouldn't rule out Bigfoot though.
  6. You file it with the county clerk, but it's a state-generated form that ends up with the state police. They have jurisdiction over the info when someone requests it. It's a little more than an 'opt-out' thing. You're not asking to be kept off of someone's marketing telephone or mailing list. It's a request to have some of your information exempted from the FOI act. Give a good reason for that request. Burmjohn, I wouldn't put it quite that way, but yeah, that's about it.
  7. http://www.governor.ny.gov/assets/documents/FOIL2-15_final_exemption_foil_form.pdf It's not default because it's a matter of public record, similar to real estate sales/transfers. The information is available to the public under the freedom of information act (FOI). It is completely legal for someone to hold an anti-gun party in their neighborhood and distribute lists of all the pistol permit holders in their area. Pretty creepy when you think about the criminals or potential criminals who could conceivably walk into that party and be handed that info without having to work for it. You have to have a valid reason for the exemption request, and I can't, and won't advise anyone on that. Think about what I said above and you'll probably find a valid reason on your own. Edit: Take the completed form to 'your licensing office', usually the county clerk.
  8. You can, and should, file the form with the State Police to request that your name be removed from that public list. A very common and straightforward process. I don't have the title of the form or the form # handy, but I'll look around and get it posted ASAP.
  9. I haven't personally found any difference in the quality of SD cards. I tend to buy the cheap ones on ebay or amazon so that I don't have to worry about losing them. Haven't had a failure yet. Batteries are a different story. Without a doubt the best I've found as far as cost per hour of use are the Radio Shack Enercell alkaline AA's. They run about $10 for a four-pack, but they are frequently on sale as a buy-one-get-one deal. Get the e-mail flyer and stock up. These are tough batteries regardless of temperature. I run Bushnell Trophy cams, which tend to be easy on batteries anyways, but it's not unusual for me to get a full season out of the RS batteries. I generally pull the cams just before Christmas and set back out in early March. I have one set out now that's 4 months into it's second season and still going strong!
  10. I was about 100 yards away in a field to the right of this pic running a log splitter at the time this was taken. When the splitter ran out of gas I looked up and these four were standing there looking at me. I watched them watching me for a couple of minutes, kicking myself for not having a camera with me at the time, but made a mental note to to check the trail cam. Same four guys! A closeup of the grandpappy. For whatever reason the big boys only party here on my property during the summer months. Mid-September is about the last I see of them. I'm thinking they migrate up the hill a ways to get into the grain fields to the west of me to put on winter fat. Sure would be nice if they held their parties in October!
  11. Nice to see news like this. Thanks for posting it! Naples and Franklinville are both places with some very fond memories for me. Might have to buy a new knife soon just to show some support!
  12. Congrats to your girlfriend! And to you for having a GF that knows how to shoot a bow!! I haven't bowfished in 30 yrs or so, but the Erie canal was always great back then. I built some outriggers and a platform for my canoe for just that purpose. Sure was a fun way to spend a lazy day on the water. Good luck.
  13. Should be a nice 'piece-o-sod' for you. 4 months 'til opening day!
  14. Congratulations! And good luck this year! You'll be telling stories about that buck for the rest of your life. Enjoy.
  15. If anyone here would like to send me money to hear what I think, by all means please PM me.
  16. Just an example here. I attended two parties this past Memorial Day weekend. In both cases I spent more time talking to the naysayers than to the people who might actually change their minds on how they vote if they were a bit more informed. Debating with folks who have already decided to vote against Cuomo and have done so in the past, but want to tell me why they think it's a lost cause to support any campaign against him? There's your defeatist attitude in a nutshell. "Yeah I'll go along, but I'm not going to work for it".
  17. I was organizing voters when I was in high school in the 1970's. Young and dumb for sure, but I saw where things were going even then and I worked to change it. I will continue to work to change it because this state is my home. I understand your frustration. The effort may well turn out to be futile, but you're not helping in any positive way.
  18. I'll be thinking of you and your family today. Thanks for the post.
  19. So, offer us an alternative course of action. Let's hear your plan. I'm open to suggestions. Fleeing from NY may be a solution to your problem, but it is not a solution to the problem here.. Armed insurrection and anarchy are not solutions. Claiming that the problem is hopeless is not a solution. Calling me stupid is not a solution. You've made a lot of good points in your posts about how difficult this situation is for us. Even I get it. Do you have anything constructive to offer this feeble-minded gent?
  20. Every negative attitude that is posted, explained and defended here, or on any other web site makes it just that much easier for the anti-gun crowd to get their way. You naysayers may end up being absolutely right on the money about everything, and if that makes you happy, good for you. In the meantime, stop standing in our way by helping the anti's.
  21. If this was only about NY, I'd be tempted to throw in the towel myself. It's a whole lot bigger than that, which is why we have support from states that aren't currently on the front lines. Give Cuomo the keys to the White House and he'll pull the same crap on the country that he's pulled on NYS. A lot of people realize this and are doing what they can to at least help prevent it from happening.
  22. Seems to me that the 'law' is Intentionally vague in its wording, probably hoping to scare people away from doing anything regarding ammo. Comply with the shipper's regulations and don't worry about it, IMO. I haven't found anyone who actually knows what the current law is, including attorneys, LEO's, and politicians. If anyone has a definitive answer, I'd love to hear it. 'Open to interpretation' has been the most common response that I've heard. That 'message of necessity' gets thinner and weaker every day, doesn't it?
