Dan Wesson makes a hell of a shooter.

It really is a great cartridge. Plenty of energy and low recoil in a lightweight gun with an 18” barrel. What’s not to love. I was really impressed with it when I built my AR, but this bolt gun is something else. And knowing that it’s not a factory gun makes it even better.

I have a Leupold VX3i 1.5-5x20. It should be plenty for where I hunt.

A little overdue but I finally had a chance to send a few down range to see how it shoots. No complaints at all and I’m very happy with the results. I was shooting 115g HPBT. When I go back, I have several different hunting rounds that I’ll be testing to see what it likes.

As nice as some of the Vortex items are, I will only spend my money on products made in the states whenever possible. I have several Leupold products with zero complaints. Trijicon is made in the USA as well.

I will second anything made by AR15Performance. Harrison makes match grade barrels at a very reasonable price. He knows his stuff and many other manufacturers have followed his lead in innovation.

I just found his website. It doesn’t look like any are available until next year anyway. Some real good looking dogs. I think once I show it to her tonight, she will melt. Thanks.

I’m sure. We’ve been breeding our Cavalier and I know all dogs are in high demand right now. I don’t think it would be for this year, but maybe for spring in 22. We are just getting through the puppy stage with our latest addition.

Hey Steve. I was showing my girlfriend pics of your recently. She had one growing up and wanted to know where you got yours from. I’m thinking it may be time to add another pup to the clan.

Finally got it all finished. Just waiting on a new set of rings for the scope. These Savage rifles are very easy to work on and a barrel swap actually takes less time than my AR. I can’t wait to send some rounds down range to see how it shoots.

I recently came across an aftermarket barrel made by ARP for a Savage bolt rifle in 6.8SPC. Nobody makes a bolt gun in that caliber and ARP made a limited run of barrels recently. ARP makes a lot of barrels for the AR15, mostly in 6.8. I have 3 of them and they’re great shooters. I missed out, but acquired it from someone who had one and couldn’t find a good donor that he liked. Savage was making the 110 Prairie Hunter in .224, but they’ve become nonexistent. The .224 uses the same case as a 6.8, but it’s a longer round. I ended up picking up a Savage 110 Tactical in .308. It comes with an AICS mag. In order to make it work, I have an 18” 3R/11.25 melonite treated barrel. I also ordered another bolt head from PTG in 6.8, a new barrel nut from NSS, and a new AICS MDT mag in .224, because of course nobody makes an AICS mag in 6.8. To modify the mag, I got a piece of high density plastic and was able to trim it down to .30” and fit it in front of the mag, since it’s a shorter round than the .224. I also had to trim down the follower a little bit. The bolt head and nut should be here next week. I’ll post some more pics once I start tearing it apart.

Figured that I’d throw this out there since rifles are pretty hard to come by right now. I’m looking for a new or used Savage bolt gun to convert to 6.8 SPC. I have a barrel, just need something with a short action. If I could find a .224 Valkyrie, that would be ideal so that I wouldn’t have to swap the bolt face. Second choice would be either a .223 or a .308 since it wouldn’t take much work to get the mags to work. Looking for any model 10, 110, or even an Axis II. I’m not in a hurry to do it, but would love to get started on a winter project. Anyone looking to make some room in their safe?

I could see the exit hole on the carcass. I hit it a little back. It was in the exact spot where I thought I hit it. It was also found in the bucks bedroom, where I believed he was bedding on a regular basis.

I haven’t been on here much the last few weeks, but I’d thought that I’d give an update from the buck I shot on Nov 4. I finally ended up finding him about 2 weeks ago. He ended up circling back from where he came from. I still can’t believe that I missed him when I searched the area the first time. Unfortunately, someone else found him before me and took the whole head off of him. He was a 13 point and I had pics of him all summer. There is another buck in the area that I’ve had my sights on as well, but he’s been very nocturnal all year and doesn’t make many mistakes. There’s still plenty of time left and hopefully he starts to slip up a little more in the late season.

Found a good one from last year 2 weeks ago while looking for my buck that I shot on Nov 4 I also did find my buck that I lost, but unfortunately someone else found him first and took the head.

Any recommendations on what power for the Wraith?

I have a 5 round mag that I’ll be using.

That is what I’m planning on doing. Just wondering if anyone has had any encounters with any law enforcement while using a pinned mag, or an AR Maglock.

I have an AR mag lock on mine, but I plan to pin the mag before I hunt with it. For those of you that pin it, has anyone been stopped while hunting and how did it go? I spoke to a local gun shop and he said that just pinning the mag isn’t good enough and it somehow needs to be permanent so that if you were to remove the mag, it would destroy the lower. I really can’t see this being the case. I would think pinning it and putting some epoxy on the pin would be good enough. So who has been stopped?
