Can you get a verizon or sprint signal there?
-
Sorry to hear that. I have 3 now and 3 of my friends have one each. We are able to view each other's pics rom the app. It is the absolute best thing since sliced bread. You can't put a value on getting real time information on what's happening in the woods, even if it is someone else's spot. If anyone is one the fence on spending the money on one, I would highly recommend it.

If the SIM card is not activated and installed, you will not get a signal. I think the camera might also have to be registered to get a signal, but I'm not sure. I would have someone with an AT&T phone see if they have a signal where you'd like to put it.

Yes it was! It seems to me that most of the bucks are still in bachelor groups. There was some light sparring amongst them today. 10-20 seconds tops. When I was scouting the fields 2 weeks ago, the biggest bucks were on their own and the younger bucks were still in groups. With that in mind, I'll be elsewhere were I have seen some giant rubs tonight. I may not see as much action, but I'm hoping that I can catch the big guy coming out by himself tonight.- 10374 replies

Had a good morning sit. Not far from an active scrape that I hung a cam over yesterday. At first light the buck parade started. Several 1.5-2.5 yo bucks worked their way in and took turns at the scrape. A nice solid 3.5 yo 8 followed soon after. I had him at 35 yds but the decision was made to let him walk. Had I not known about his 2 big brothers in the area, he probably would've been in the back of my truck right now. It really felt good to let him walk. Shortly after he came out the rain started. If I'm going to track in the rain, it's going to have to be worth it. I'll be out again this afternoon on a different part of the property.- 10374 replies

He was 50 yds but I probably would’ve passed on him. There are 3 others in the area that are on my list that I’m trying to hold out for. Seeing how we have a 4 month season and only 2 buck tags, there is no sense it settling 1 week into the season.- 10374 replies

I got out this morning. The bucks were quite active as I saw 4 different bucks rip up the same scrapes that were untouched on my walk in this morning. One of them was a 3.5 yo 9 point that needs another year. Decided to sit out the evening hunt due to a migraine that came on suddenly and has stuck with me all day. I might try again Saturday morning as it looks like we will have a nice drop in temperature.- 10374 replies

Got out this morning. I saw a bunch including one of my target bucks. I had him at 40 yards but didn't take the shot in hopes that I'd get a better one. Not today. I came across this rub on my way out. I think there might be a new number 1 for me in the area.- 10374 replies

I had a close encounter with one of my target bucks yesterday morning. He's a 130+ 8 point. He came in quartering to me and stopped behind a tree to make a scrape. I drew in anticipation that he would follow the other 4 bucks that did the same and present a nice quartering away shot at 25 yards. Except he decided to turn away and only gave me an ass view as he wandered off. I hunted all day and saw plenty of deer, but he didn't come back. A buddy of mine shot a beautiful 130 class 10 point yesterday morning. Here’s a pic.- 10374 replies

Ok. I just re read your post. I was thinking that your 5 yd shot was hitting to the right. But I'm sure that you were aiming to the right. I'm still trying to get the cobwebs out of my head with my first cup of coffee. Good shooting.

Have you tried at 30-40 yards? I would bet that the arrow would hit a bit left. What kind of rest are you shooting?

If you didn’t get one before October 1, you need to wait until November 1. -

And they need to bring it back to help increase the doe harvest. Since they changed it, the doe harvest has decreased. And the population is growing very steadily. -

Not sure how you do that, unless you’re also counting using your buck tag and either sex tag. If that’s the case,it’s still better than only shooting 2 bucks and no does. Regardless on how many bucks get killed, the doe harvest must increase to reduce the population. In order to do that, the state must give an incentive to help the doe harvest increase. -

They will only renew the dmp tag when you shoot a doe. The replacement rage used to allow you to shoot a buck or a doe. Not anymore. Does only on the replacements now unfortunately. It used to be a great incentive to shoot a couple of does and be rewarded with buck tags. Even if they never got filled. I sure wish they would wise up and bring them back. -
Some people will say broad heads will never fly like field tips. I disagree. This was 2 broad heads and 2 field tips at 30 yards using my 20 yard pin. 29" Maxima Red 250’s with 100g Montecs at 65lbs.

If you buy a new bow, you'll still need to paper tune the bow and figure out what works best. Whatever you decide to do, a paper tune will tell you a lot and will help your arrows fly like bullets. A walk back tune will also tell you if there is an erratic arrow flight.

My Spartan cams can be set to record sound with 10 seconds of video. A spot that I hunted last year had geese landing in the field behind me and you could hear them on the video.
-
I would take it to a shop first and have them check the timing, tiller, loop and the rest. Once everything is where it should be, then paper tune it. The arrows may still hit the same spot if it's not paper tuned correctly, but they may be flying a little funny and you'll never notice it until you put on a broadhead. When you paper tune it, it may be necessary to make small adjustments to the rest. Not all bows like everything perfectly inline or square to the string. I would by a different whisker bisquit that allows vertical adjustment. You can get the kill zone for about $30. Once you get it paper tuned, try your broadheads again. I found that the Montecs flew the best for me. I tried thunderheads, Muzzys, slick tricks, and interlocks. At 30 yds they hit exactly the same as my field tips. Also, nobody can paper tune the bow for you. A shop can set it up, but you need to shoot it to dial it in. Small changes in how you hold the bow can affect how it shoots.
-
I finally got some time to mess with it some more. I took off the octane rest and put on a new whisker biscuit. I had to set the rest a bit to the left of center, but now I have bullet holes in the paper. Checked it with some Montecs and Pile Drivers. They are shooting identical to my field points.

I’m a 29” draw at 70 lbs. those arrows have a deflection of .345. Right on the money on the chart. But the symptoms of a right tear says it might be too stiff. I’m going to try a 125g tip tomorrow and see if it helps. Otherwise I’ll shoot a few other types of carbons and see what it likes.
-
I decided to try and paper tune it today. It was pouring out when I got home, so I set up in the basement. I was getting a pretty good nock right tear with the field tips I thought you were supposed to move the rest to the left, but I had no luck. I called Bowtech and they said to move it to the right. Still no change. Then I tried one my aluminums with feathers, and would you believe it, almost a perfect hole. Then I fletched up one of piledrivers with feathers, and I still had a large tear nock right. Went back to my aluminum one more time to make sure it wasn't a fluke, and sure enough it wasn't. I'm starting to think maybe the Piledriver 350's are the culprit.
-
That is the plan. To spend some time paper tuning before anymore money is spent. Hopefully I can tune the bow to my combo. I’m just looking for feedback on what other people have had success with.

Thanks Steve. I might take you up on that this week. I’ll let you know. How’s the new pup?
