  1. if it ain't broke, don't fix it!!! Much of my gear has withstood the test of time of the last 27 years, and will only get upgraded when issues arise.
  2. Odds are now that you said it, you’ll probably lose it again this week. I hope not though. We lost power for a week after Sandy. Luckily I had a small generator handy. Enough to get my well pump going, hot water, a fridge, and a few lights. Heat and water are my 2 biggest concerns. I have too much invested in my house to start bursting pipes. And there’s nothing like using your own toilet and shower, so I need my well pump working. Hope everyone gets through round 2 ok.
  3. Not sure about the chestnut trees, but we had the Asian long horn beetle here on Long Island and the city that attacked and killed many hardwood trees. They really went after the maples.
  4. I just figured that he was one of those guys with a black cloud following him around all of the time.
  5. I've been seeing them the last 2-3 years where I'm located. Some guys at work told me that they've seen them further east the last several years. Maybe they're heading west.
  6. I still have mine out. It seems like everyone has dropped their headgear.
  7. And I'm sure that you voted for him, right? It just amazes me how you can cry about your taxes and hate the govt because you have no power... Like others have already said, your previous statements explain a lot.
  8. I’m sure it’s good. They’re on it. It’ll probably be back on tonight.
  9. I wouldn't worry about it. I do it all the time.
  10. Nice find rachunter. He'll be a real nice deer next year. I got out this morning as well. Walked some public land. Found 2 small dead heads, a chewed up fork horn shed, and a broken carbon arrow with a muzzy head. Also came across a very slow moving garter snake taking in some sun. Not as good as last week, but I did find some really good spots to set up next season.
  11. I can’t believe what I’m hearing. 50k in taxes and you don’t want to be prepared with a generator that you will hardly ever use? You have no power. Wahhhhh. Really? And it’s the governments fault? Are you kidding? Do you cry about your insurance payment on your house too? That’s what a generator is, insurance. Just in case. Just be happy that it’s not below freezing and you’d be having pipes bursting all over. I’ve done work at a lot of expensive homes, and most if not all have a diesel generator on the side of their house. You remind me of a little kid that has entitlement issues. You just cry when you don’t get your way and blame everyone else for not being prepared yourself. And as far as buried electric lines, they are actually more prone to going out due to water corrosion. And when they do go out, they take a lot longer to get back up and running. Just because you have a multi million dollar home, it doesn’t make you any more special than anyone else. Nobody is going to run an electric cord to your house or pay your hotel bill. So stop your whining and suck it up.
  12. Because it costs a lot of money. Maybe you should have just buy a house in an area that they already have buried lines? There are plenty of areas around here that have them. Or better yet, just buy a generator and be prepared for acts of God, like everyone else does.
  13. The problem with doing line maitenence by trimming trees is that they can only clear an area around the wires. That usually leaves a large part of the tree on either side of the wires. This will help from small branches contacting the wires, but in a major storm, the tree will fall and take them out. Have you ever seen when the utilities top every tree on the block and the public outrage ensues? The problem isn't the utilities, it's the municipalities that plant the trees under the wires. Like others have said, give them a break. They are working around the clock to get the power back on for you. If it was me, I'd go pick up a few pizzas and drive around the neighborhood in search of the linemen and express your gratitude, and let them know where you live. It can't hurt.
  14. Just get a length of 1 1/2" pvc. Cut it to the proper length, then cut it in half and join it with a coupler and prop up your blind. When you take it out, disassemble and use as 2 walking sticks.
  15. At least you know where he likes to be when he does drop them.
  16. Ableammo has Federal 3rd degree TSS in 3”. Not sure if those are the new ones that you’re looking for.
  17. Ableammo.com will ship to your door.
  18. Here in Suffolk county, they passed a 5 cent tax on all bags, paper and plastic. So now everyone has started to use these reusable bags. It’s a real pain in the neck.
  19. I set mine up on the deck on a piece of plywood outside. Then it goes in the basement when not in use. It can make a mess on the countertop
