9. Looks like a type of Suillus( maybe slippery Jack). 10. Looks like Old Man Of The Woods. If so it's actually edible. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk

What's the coldest temperature you can remember hunting in

January & February 2018 I logged many hours in a stand at night overlooking a baitpile hunting for predators. More than a few of those nights was easily -20 windchills. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk -
Besides deer what is your favorite thing to hunt

Yes they were all found personally by me in and around the Southern Tier. My collection has grown since that photo, but since moving to Ontario County I haven't been able to find any. I do know of a few village sites along the west side of Seneca. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk -

Yotes, fox, mushrooms & artifacts Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk -
Awesome pics Wooly. Mushrooms do make very good subjects for photos. That's the kind of puffball that actually kicks back! Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk

That also puts a damper on the trapping, I often get fox in my yote sets. I'm in Canandaigua. If ya need some help after deer season I'd be happy to come hunt the yotes. I actually love hunting after dark in the sub-zero temps. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk

My favorite harassment story was told to me years ago during my trapper ed course. I don't remember all the details but it ended when the woman who was harassing the trapper kicked one of his 330 conibear traps! OUCH!!!! I would have loved to see that!!![emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk

I agree that giant puffballs are among the most tasteless & textureless thing and I don't normally bother with them. However, I did see an interesting lasagna recipe utilizing puffballs in place of noodles. Once in a while I will snag a few gem-studded puffballs if I see them. They're only the size of golf balls, but I feel like they have a better taste. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk

Naturally, for me it's about the hunt. The fungi is just a bonus. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk

Nice mixed bag from a Tuesday evening. Lobsters, chants, chicken, oysters and coral. Chants were everywhere but I only stopped to pick a few. Found some huge Jack-O-lanterns and a great northern tooth as well. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk

Those are Jack-O-Lanterns. Toxic! Here's one I found a few days ago Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk

Looks like crown tipped coral although I'm not certain. I've never tried it, but it's supposedly yummy Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk

Trumpets are tough to spot sometimes unless you're looking for them. Look for mossy areas. I usually do best along drainage ditches in wooded hillsides or along logging roads. It seems that spores get into surface water and get washed down the hill. Just like with chants, when you find some then also look uphill and downhill from there. The spores had to come from somewhere. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk

Any time man[emoji106] Did you get a chance to try any of todays find? Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
-
Sweet find! Those chanterelle looking ones look to me like Craterellus Ignicolors. Cantharellus(chanterelles) are grouped differently than Craterellus. The black trumpets you found are Craterellus cornucopioides Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk

I've never sold my finds, I like mushrooms too much. I take it the buyer assumes all liability for accidental poisonings. Aside from that, some people have different sensitivities to certain wild mushrooms. A can or worms I'm not interested in opening for the sake of a few bucks. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk

110 pounds? Fu*k that! That's hours of cleaning. 8-10 pounds in a day is enough for me. One trick with chants is to cut the stipe rather than pull from the ground. Also blow off any debris/dirt before it goes in the sack otherwise you're gonna have a bag full of dirty mushrooms. I've been picking chants for over a month and I'm done with them. Moved on to boletes, chickens, oysters, etc. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
-
Now we're talkin! Nice haul. With chants, if I plan on using them relatively soon I will just clean them and freeze them fresh. For more long term storage I rough chop and give them a quick saute' with a little onion & garlic. This helps preserve the taste and texture. I did dehydrate some this year which I've read might make them a bit chewy upon rehydration, we'll see. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk

A couple more chickens tonight Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk

Being a southern tier man I've always went for Hoffmans, but since moving closer to Rochester I'm growing more fond of the Zwiegles. Yet to try a Sahlens and Nathans are gross. They're all lips and assholes anyways[emoji1] Now give me a Lupo's spiedie sub(pork, lamb or chicken)with extra mushrooms and cheese and we're in business. Also don't forget the brown bag of shoestring fries! Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk

Yellow Fly Agaric. TOXIC Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk

Nope that's a white spored chicken. Laetiporus cincinnatus I prefer those over Laetiporus sulphureus Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
