  1. Hunting is in my blood. First time I tagged along with my Dad I was 7 or 8 and we were fox hunting at night. This was the late 80's and coyotes were just starting to become more prevalent in NY so I was not expecting to hear any howling. Well we did and I still remember him smiling and saying "it's ok" when he saw me get uneasy. Since then I've been hooked on predator hunting & trapping. My Dad, brother and I still chase song dogs every year. The first one I saw harvested was(and I am not exaggerating), a 110yd running shot with a 22LR made by my older brother out of the window of the house. Waterfowl is about the only thing in NY that I never really got into hunting, yet. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  2. Absolutely! I can say with confidence that the chicken was the most fresh one I've ever found. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  3. I dug this one back in the spring. 1835 Large Cent. My oldest coin so far. I have dug many Indian Head pennies from the 1880's-1890's and one Barber Quarter from 1898. Not valuable, but historical provenance means more to me than monetary value anyways. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  4. Just picked a nice mixed bag of Oysters, Coral, Lobsters, Bi-color Boletes, 1 chant and a perfect Chicken. No hens yet. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  5. I also stand and shoot off hand, although I will occasionally sit if the terrain allows. When it's very dark out I will stand in the middle of the field and scan 360°, once I have a predator coming in I will either shoot off hand or take a knee and shoot. When the moon is bright and there is snow cover I will set up on the edge of the field. Since sitting on the edge means I won't have to scan behind me I will sometimes sit. If I were one to only make 1 or 2 sets per night and they were easy to access I could justify carrying extra gear, but I often make 8-10 sets per night. Every set is never the same either, the wind might change and I might have to walk a half mile to enter the calling area from down/crosswind. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  6. I hunt whenever I can day or night from October 1st clear through the end of march regardless of temp. I might make shorter calling stands to warm up, but I'm often out til 3-4am. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  7. Lol. You kidding me? Most of these guys are 5ft nothin', 140lbs., single and can't get venison unless they get it from a buddy! [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] What's not to love about quiche? It's eggs, cheese and other goodies in a freakin pie! Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  8. Lol I don't follow??? Is quiche frowned upon? Err I actually meant to say Bigfoot, cougar & ketchup on hotdogs[emoji16] Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  9. Not quite death, but I did leave a lasting impression in the bathroom this morning from the black trumpet quiche I had for dinner![emoji23] Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  10. Would I steer you wrong? Lol Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  11. Lol. You'll be fine. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  12. All the formed petals are good. Cut off leaving an inch or 2 on the stump. The good news is it looks like you may have a reoccurring fungi if the rains continue. If they're bug/debris free just a very quick rinse is plenty. Yes I do most of my mushrooms in butter. Once sauteed a bit, the chicken mushroom can be used just like chicken such as bbq or stir fry. 13. That's a primo specimen!!! Slice, cook fairly well and enjoy! Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  14. I'm pretty sure those red ones are Exsudoporus frostii (Frosts Bolete) they are actually edible, but I don't recommend any boletes with a red pore surface(underneath cap). The first pic looks like a type of Ganoderma. While inedible, Ganoderma Applanatum(Artists Conch)is a medicinal fungi. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  15. Porcini mushrooms are nicknamed the PennyBun. Notice how their cap looks like a hamburger bun. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  16. No blanching necessary IMO. Both of these do very well straight into the pan. I like to peel the Ramaria into smaller clusters before cooking. They have a nice taste. The thin ends get slightly crispy while the base stays more meaty. The Boletes do very well with any type of cooking & the flavors are enhanced when dehydrated. Of course it's tough to beat the nutty flavor when sauteed in butter[emoji16] Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  17. That coral is a species of Ramaria, tastes pretty good sauteed. The last pic looks like King Bolete(Porcini) which are very good. As always, please be 100% sure before consuming. Any time you eat a new type of fungi, only eat a few bites at first and wait to be sure you won't have adverse reactions. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  18. Cleaning a nice haul of trumpets now. Wife's making quiche with them. Also got some hedgehog mushrooms that will hit the skillet soon. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  19. My condolences. May you and yours find peace and solace in this time of mourning. God bless. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  20. All that will do is pressure them to the neighbors property and/or force them to hunt at night. Quite frankly you'll never get them all and they will simply have larger litters to compensate for the ones that are killed. Then in the meantime while populations of game animals on the property increase, the young pups will establish a new hierarchy in the food rich territory and you're back at square one trying to force them out. Now the neighbors will have even more to deal with. Couple that along with the fact that there's not enough ECO's to enforce laws and deal with complaints from hikers, landowners and suspicions of poaching 24/7 365. Now I don't know about you, but personally I don't want to dress my whole family in blaze orange to enjoy state lands(or private land) in the summertime and tell you what, the first time a bullet whizzes over my wife or kids head Sasquatch is comin' out and he ain't lookin for beef jerky[emoji6] Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  21. I seem to remember Yolanda Vega mentioning KPMG during late night lottery drawings[emoji16] She could still be doing it for all I know, I don't watch T.V. anymore Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  22. Got my vote as well. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  23. Was out til 11 last night picking Lobster mushrooms by flashlight. So yummy and so worth it. Snagged a puffball after work today while I was checking on one of my stands. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  24. I've seen more this summer than I ever have. I usually see a few over the course of summer. Just a couple weeks ago I was trimming the shrubs out in front of my place of work and flushed 8- 10 out of the shrubs. Only 1 met the trimmer blades. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  25. Craterellus Ignicolor( flame chanterelle ) Craterellus Tubaeformis ( yellowfoot chanterelle ) I'm thinking you got the flames. Awesome find! I'm jealous. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
