  1. I don't think so. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  2. I too have been wanting to try the bi-color boletes. I did better than I ever have with morels, but I only had 1 day to collect them. I'm now eagerly awaiting chants Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  3. Perfect specimen CrappyIce! Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  4. Yep. Nice find Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  5. Those look like artists conch. My grandmother has painted beautiful pictures on larger specimens. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  6. Awesome find CrappyIce! Before freezing Morels I steam them for 5 minutes to break down the enzymes that can cause color and flavor deterioration. I then lay them on a baking sheet and toss the pan in the freezer. Once frozen I bag them up. I'm not sure if that would work for your golden oysters, but I dont see why not. 7. Very nice haul! Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  8. Yeah I couldn't find the thread either so I just created a new one. Yes those are pheasant backs. Enjoy! Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  9. I couldn't find the old mushroom hunting thread so I'm kicking off a new one. I went out this morning and got drenched, but perseverance paid off. I walked out of the woods with 54 nice Morels and probably 10lbs of Dryad's Saddle. They are now all nicely put up in the freezer(besides the sampler platter the wife and I enjoyed with dinner). 10. I go through there every day to work and back. I'll be headed there in about 20 minutes so I'll keep a watch out for a bloated doe. Lol Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  11. Tried my first Dryads Saddle yesterday and rather enjoyed it. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  12. Don't drink too often these days but my favorites are: Hot bloody mary Winter Woodchuck hard cider. Mojito. Rye whiskey neat. Good IPA Ice cold Labatt blue Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  13. Yeah they're what they call Half-free morels. They differ from other Morels because as the name implies, only half of the cap is attatched to the stem. This was my first time finding half frees and from what I've read they dont get as big as other Morels. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  14. Hiked in deep today and scored about 80 morels. Dug some ramps too. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  15. Ramps transplant quite easily. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  16. Sweet! Gotta love when it all comes together Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  17. I've actually never tried dryads saddle so I'm not sure how fast they grow. I plan on trying them this year. It is said that smaller(fist size) specimens are best otherwise they tend to get woody. Those which we presumed were mica caps are pretty fragile and pretty much melt away overnight. 18. Yep. Pheasant back. Nice find crappyice Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  19. I put fresh leaves in green salads, they're very tender and have a nice light onion taste. The rest I blanch then immediately dunk in an ice bath. Next I lay them out on a towel and dry thoroughly before freezing. I made 5 lbs. of ramp compound butter to put on the tables at my wedding and it was a hit. I put softened butter, ramp leaves, a few ramp bulbs and lemon zest in a blender. Blend thoroughly and fill muffin pans with the mixture. Freeze. Once fully frozen set the pan in an inch of warm water in your sink to loosen the "butter pucks". Finally, wrap individually in parchment/wax paper and freeze. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  20. The bulbs wont get bigger in a week. You just have younger ramps. It takes a ramp 7 years to reach full size, this is why they can be scarce in certain areas. If they all get dug then they're gone. Overharvesting is becoming more of an issue since every Tom, Dick & Harry are searching for them. I practice sustainable harvesting by only digging mature ramps and only taking the leaves of smaller plants. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
  21. I'm on there but haven't even thought to check it since it's still so early. Optimal ground temp for morels is 52° and I know we're still a ways from that here in the western finger lakes area. I had 1/2" of snow on the ground yesterday morning. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk
