I'm listening to the scanner right now. They just chased him through my area (broome county). At speeds in excess of 140mph he just hit the spike strips in Cortland County. The suspect didn't survive! Good work NYS police! He was obviously guilty of something! Sent from my SCH-S720C using Tapatalk 2

Not trying to rain on any parades, but complacency can prove fatal. These are not pellet guns. While I'm sure there a few exceptions, but unless you're hunting behind a high fence you could very possibly be in the presence of tresspassers. Even when you're certain you're only in the company of buddies, if you look like every other tree/bush your buddy could take a shot. I volunteered at a hunter safety course last summer and thought the instructors did a great job of emphasizing the importance of hunter orange. The station they set me up in was one where they placed 2 decoys out in the woods. 1 decoy had an orange hat hanging behind it and the other had me sitting in full camo 20ft. behind it. Every student said they would take a shot at my decoy and none said they'd shoot the one with orange behind it. As soon as each group of students would all agree upon taking the shot, the instructor would give me a signal to wave the orange hat that I had hidden in my coat. I would then hear them say, " oh I didn't even see him there". Food for thought! Sent from my SCH-S720C using Tapatalk 2

Took my little lady to bath & bodyworks, a movie and TGIFridays for our 7th anniversary. I had Ahi tuna, a monster avocado/chicken yucatan salad and some Sam Adams Octoberfest. She went traditional with Jack Daniels glazed steak & lobster tail Sent from my SCH-S720C using Tapatalk 2

During gun season for deer I always wear an orange vest & hat. Bow season is full camo. I hunt predators 98% of the time after dark so it's a non issue. Dom, you may want to test the pink out in low light to be sure that it's not too "whitish". I read a study once that was testing the best camo that deer cant see and pink camo was actually #1 Sent from my SCH-S720C using Tapatalk 2

Yep those are blackberries. Raspberries and black raspberries are gone now. They were ripe about a month ago. I have a few patches of blackberries(I call them thumb-berries) to get lost in for a couple hours. Sent from my SCH-S720C using Tapatalk 2

I don't think it'll take you four years to get one. If they don't get enough applicants to meet the required quota, then you may get a dmp with just 1 point. I've never applied for a 4o dmp, but I can honestly say I've never accumulated more than 1 preference point since the "lottery" system has been in place. Sent from my SCH-S720C using Tapatalk 2

Yes it means NYS residents. I don't think you'll qualify with 30 acres. It's pretty cut and dry. Since preference points are won and lost on your first choice and there are none given for second choice, all you can really do is try for a 4o as your first pick. Then try for another wmu and possibly trade or even jump on some public land to bag a doe. Hmm. I hunt in 4o a little bit. Care to barter? Say permission to hunt/trap coyotes on your land this winter for a 4o tag this fall? Sent from my SCH-S720C using Tapatalk 2

food? And taint our breath? No no! Especially this day in age with scent eliminating gum, pit stick and toothpaste. I give it 5 years and we'll be seeing scent eliminating enemas & lotion! HAHA!!! I don't carry food, but sometimes I raid the candy dish for the blue raspberry jolly ranchers on my way out the door! Sent from my SCH-S720C using Tapatalk 2

Downtime today on site

Ya lost me Giz. Are you talking about the NYSDEC website??? I'm pretty sure sportsman licenses are a thing of the past in NY. Sent from my SCH-S720C using Tapatalk 2 -
All tags licenses are printed out elrectronically through a NYSDEC decals computer. The system often has problems/bugs when it gets overloaded. If your town hall issues tags, then they have a special computer just for that. You can probably call ahead and ask if their system is running properly Sent from my SCH-S720C using Tapatalk 2

yep the blue shop towels are a good choice because they're not white like a deers tail and they're tough enough that you can moisten them with water and get squeaky clean! My gear changes a lot depending on what I'm hunting , where I'm hunting, when in the season(early/mid/late) , how I'll be hunting(still/stand/stalk/drive), how far I'll be venturing from the Jeep, etc. I switch up tactics often and like to be prepared, but not bogged down with gear. The basics that always accompany me are license, cellphone, knife, lighter and usually some sort of call. If it's gun season, I'll always have hunter orange. Sent from my SCH-S720C using Tapatalk 2

Check into coopers hawk too. They're very agile forest hunters. Sent from my SCH-S720C using Tapatalk 2

Alright... This looks like a Mountain Lion
PREDATE replied to Renegade Hunter's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
I'm gonna start by saying that we all know a mountain lion in NY is not impossible. I'm guessing by the face that it's a bobcat.I'm just wondering when the pic was captured and what the heck is in the background? Is your buddy expecting deer to waltz into the barn or is it for security? Sent from my SCH-S720C using Tapatalk 2 -
Lunch time at Thirsty's huh? LolSent from my SCH-S720C using Tapatalk 2

But I'm assuming you're not. It's perfectly legal. So what if he's a salad shooter, your neighbor just didn't evolve to the top of the food chain. Lol Here's 1 tip for ya. If possible, try to skin them while they're still warm. It makes it easier plus it allows the meat to cool faster. Sent from my SCH-S720C using Tapatalk 2

I think he was asking if you had a spot to try processing the deer yourself. That's what I've always done. I enjoy doing it and my dog absolutely loves it! Sent from my SCH-S720C using Tapatalk 2

I'm just ragging on ya. It sounded like you called him a but-ranger. LOL Sent from my SCH-S720C using Tapatalk 2

I've been a licenced hunter for 19 years and a bowhunter for 17. I remember going fox hunting with my dad when I was 8 or 9. Hunting to me is not just a sport or hobby, but more of a family tradition. I have pictures of my great grandfather and my grandma posing with their bucks & bunnies they'd just shot on our family farm where I still hunt with my dad, brother, & cousin to this day Sent from my SCH-S720C using Tapatalk 2

Just don't get carried away with the discrimination/notch or you'll never find gold. In virgin sites I like to dig everything and methodically search the area which I divide up into 4 sectors. Sent from my SCH-S720C using Tapatalk 2

I hear ya Doc. It can get frustrating, but I know folks didn't trust banks back then and they had a stash "cache" somewhere on the property. Take a look at something they called post hole banks. The concept is simple, just locate the fencepost close to the house and in view of a window so it can be watched( just not a load bearing corner post). Then they would loosen the post and place a jar/can in the hole and put the post back in place. There was a product that could be bought which was simply a threaded pipe with caps on both ends. I suppose most folks just used jars. Another reason for using post hole banks was so nobody would see the fresh dug dirt whenever a deposit/withdrawl was made. The lady of the house probably had a cache in the garden behind the house in plain view from a kitchen window where fresh dug dirt was not out of the ordinary.Don't give up Doc! There is still good stuff out there! Sent from my SCH-S720C using Tapatalk 2
