For me it depends on when & where. If it's early season, I wont. If it's in a spot where I know a smart old gobbler lives, I won't. Of course it also boils down to how much days I will get to hunt

I didn't enter on time last year. This year will be different. Sign me up -
A month ago, my fiance's grandfather passed at home surrounded by the family and under hospice care. While he was making the transition into the next life, we would sit and talk with him and reassure him that his work was complete and that we would all be ok. While sitting there, I saw a white orb float right above him.

Saw a big ol' tom strutting his stuff for his ladies. Haven't heard the thunder roll yet.

True story. As a teenager, my pals and I would go into the cemetery at night to get stoned. We'd climb atop one of the big mausoleums and have some pretty deep conversations about the many wonders of the world. Well on one brightly moonlit night we all saw an apparition stumble through a large hedge. It tumbled out the other side then vanished, but the hedge never moved. All 3 of us seen it and looked at each other and said, "what the F**K was that"!

I've never targeted shad, but I do fish the Delaware near Deposit and Hancock. The trout fishing in the Delaware is phenomenal! Well worth a stop. I'll probably be hitting the east branch of the Owego creek this Sunday.

I haven't hunted them much for big game, but I wouldn't hesitate to. -
Sounds like a good plan bubba, but hasn't cuomo already won over the hearts of the crossbow lovers? LOL

Tips for using bait on yotes?
PREDATE replied to Woodjr55's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
I've found that the full moon generally keeps the yotes in the brush / woods because they can hunt their prey easier and because they realize that they can be seen out in the open. This is why I place my bait / stand in a spot where they feel more secure. This may mean that I have to sit closer to the bait and only get a quick shot opportunity with the shotgun as they cross a small clearing. They are unpredictable and there is no hard fast rule. For example, a good amount of predator hunters won't venture out on a night with high winds and snow because they think the yotes will be hunkered down, but I call that hogwash! I think just the opposite in where they can't hear their surroundings as good when they are in the brush on windy nights so they come out in the open to utilize their sight more. -

any yote tracks in the snow around the rib cage? -
I see it as "you don't know what you got til it's gone". By that I'm talking about the Gander that we had right down the road, til it got flooded in 2011 and was forced to leave. Since then we've only had Walmart and Dick's for local stores. I was glad to hear Gander will be returning soon. While I admit I left there on many occasions with a bad taste, they will be a step up from what we have now. Anyone else notice their minnows(fatheads) die very fast?

Sweet accomplishment! You know, you could probably do the same slam in your home state! LOL

Nice take so far LM. Still 2 months to go. May I ask what kinds of areas your dogs find them hunkered down in the daytime?

I've been doing demo on 2 floors of a large commercial bldg. which held corporate offices for an engineering company. We're completely gutting it so it can be turned into student housing. There's no heat! Even if it warms up to 20 outside, it stays below 0 inside. Good news is we're 3/4 of the way done. We tolerate the cold by staying busy and swinging sledge hammers.

Paula, have you tried the light from Shawn yet?

I can be fairly certain that I won't be able to make it for I don't enjoy the luxury of a day off work( my job would fall to sh*tt lol). I'm sure many sportsmen will be out on April 1st "fooling" some trout!! -
Just early enough so you don't get spotted on the way in. If possible, try to set up in a good vantage point where you can see all directions. Keep movement minimal because the will come in looking. Some camo netting would be great if you have some. If you see one, get into position, but keep watching for others because they'll often travel in pairs

Coyotes are more likely to be in dense cover during daylight hours. The reason behind hunting them in fields is because us night hunters use lights and lights don't work very well in the woods. Another reason is so you can watch your downwind side and catch them trying to wind you. Just be in the woods before sun up and don't call til you can see well enough because they are very sneaky.

A Licensed Plumber Wouldn't Do This.........
PREDATE replied to Lawdwaz's topic in General Chit Chat
We just found all the scrap pieces of armored BX cable left by the union "sparky's".... in the walls of the cubicles. Also inside the wall, we found the makers mark of the drywall hanger. He wrote his name on a Budweiser can and titled it, "Tom's wall 1997". -
When the den is in use(around mating season), they will likely return there at dawn.
