If you live in Greenwood Lake...you should be hunting Sterling Forest...it's just over the hill from you. I used to love hunting those woods. Sadly, I moved further east and hunt on the CT state border now.

Well..I'm just glad it was a new site update and not something else that was preventing me from getting in.

Why am i getting my wife into hunting.
apertureguy replied to 5.9cummins's topic in General Chit Chat
I like taking my wife hunting too. ...although lately she's becoming more suspicious because I keep on making her wear her fur coat. She's worried about the coat getting ruined, and I keep trying to assure her that wearing it is just like natural camouflage. -

I live on edge of a res and often fly or spin cast for fresh water beauties. Bass, Trout, Walleye, Perch, Huge Crappies and Catfish! -
I think I read this somewhere too

I grew up near the Point (in Monroe) and my Dad worked there for many years. I can assure you there are huge animals in that area. You shouldn't have a problem...and in Orange County...If I remember right allows rifle. Good luck.

I like to swim regularly to help with fitness. But like others have said...I also own property and have to maintain it. That said, a couple of well trimmed Acres has all the makings of a good excersize program. There's walking, weight lifting, stress tests, etc on a regular basis. For my age, the doctor says I am in great shape. Let's hope he's right.

Yeah, I have been riding since the late 70's. Right now I'm on an 06 Suzuki Boulevard M50. I've never gone to Americade, but wouldn't mind it if I had the time.

Hunting jokes. Lets hear them boys. (and girls)
apertureguy replied to Robinson446's topic in General Chit Chat
Muzzy...that one has always been my favorite. I can remember my brother telling me that joke while we were in the woods one year. I giggled the entire day & didn't see one deer. -
I get those and the white ones in the reservoir near me. Very good tasting! Sometimes I'll find a school & they'll hit on every cast for several minutes...it's wonderful.

Do you wear Orange? If so why? If not Why not? :)

Now that it's small game (yote) season...I'm back to all camo. -
;D Yeah...I can put it right next to the Unicorn and Bigfoot I shot last year.

I'm usually up on the left side & I park at the first area on the left. I've hunted the top of the mountain too. Last year I did a fair amount down at the first area..the right side with the large parking area. But, I've taken game from both areas. Where do you go when you're there?
-
Yep...that's the best way to go. My brother and I grew up hunting that way...him with the shotgun & me with a .22. Good Luck!

I have a caller (some electronic thing the wife got me) but have not taken it with me yet. I've been going up to Ninham, but didn't see anything yesterday. Since it's after deer season I can take the .22 Mag...but I took the shotgun for no good reason. It was the easiest one to grab that morning. I'm hoping to go again very soon. Let me know, if you want some company, we can meet for coffee. -Bill

We're so poor down here that when we need a scope we just curl our hands up over our eyes.

I don't get lost either...but there was one time I was on some sinus meds & went hunting anyway. I was hunting in an area I was unfamiliar with...which wasn't smart without a clear head. Heck, I probably shouldn't have been in the woods. Regardless, I can remember getting turned around and for a few moments wondered what I had gotten myself into. So, I called the wife (on that trusty cell phone I carry) and started telling her how I had gotten myself turned around...it was overcast & I had no idea where the sun was. She laughed at me, saying..."Well what the heck are you calling me for? I'm busy cooking!...Try calling a Ranger" <click> As I hung up the phone, cursing her, it finally dawned on me that I could easily find my way and I ended up laughing at myself as I cleared the next hill and saw my car. Duh! It's been years & she still breaks my stones about it.

Yote hunting regulation question?
apertureguy replied to wooly's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
I don't think so...but you should try to call a DEC office for clarity. -
Sitting quietly and still for a good while (in a nice area with a nest or two nearby) can work well. Least ways I always see a slew when waiting for Deer. But if you'd rather walk for them you really need to practice stalking. Squirrels can see movement and easily hear your steps. So walk very slowly & quietly, stopping often and scanning as far off as you can see...you'll eventually see some movement. When you do...don't go rushing over. Slowly head that way, using the trees as a sheild to hide from them. I've been able to walk up to a lot of game this way...which is good for the shotgun. Around here when Deer season is over I can also go with the .22 Mag...which is really nice. I can sit on a ridge and take them from a distance while hunting yote's.

I have a boat on a reservoir here in Putnam. I'm also walking distance to other water and or various rivers & streams. I spin cast or fly fish, it just depends on the day. I just don't care to ice fish...Winter is for hunting...and since ML is over...it's time to take out the .22 Mag!

Awesome before & after shots.
