  1. I'll be hunting this weekend...and I'll be wearing my Hunter costume too.
  2. Seeing how I'm the last male in the family alive...I hunt alone. Really enjoyed growing up hunting & fishing with my Dad & Brother, and really enjoy going out as often as I can. Wouldn't mind going with someone, or at least meeting for coffee or something before we head out.
  3. I've gotten lucky with a few during the early morning hours, but would love to try them at night. Issue is that I hunt alone and would rather have company if I were hunting at night.
  4. That's horrible. I would have stopped, declared it a crime scene and started dusting for prints...God help him if I found any. However, I think you did the right thing as you still got to enjoy the day. Thankfully.
  5. Yeah, I like it during the week too...much less traffic. Last year, walking in the early morning (on rainy days) I came across 3 Bobcat...first one, then the next day I saw the other two scrambling out of a tree (she had that guilty look in her eyes too) which was hollowed out...1 day before their season opened. I might still get one.
  6. I was just up there on Saturday. I got a very late start & didn't get into the woods until after 3 PM. I heard a .22 up on the top of the hill & the guy must have been target shooting...as they were firing rounds like crazy (one right after the other, usually 6 in a row). All I saw was a single squirrel and he was too far off to bother with.
  7. Released right into the brush. When I've gone there, they're just strolling around in the woods.
  8. Once Deer Season is completely over, you can small game hunt with a .22. This is allowed in a shotgun only area (like Putnam County), but again only for small game. First thing they're doing is making sure there is NO deer season so no one could mistakenly shoot one with a low caliber weapon and second is they're allowing my to take Coyote's from a bit further off than I can with the shotgun using #4 shot. So for me it works out just fine.
  9. Yeah, you should feel good about this. About the only time I seem to get close to a Turkey is when I happen to drive by some in my car. I started keeping my license in my wallet (instead of on Jacket) in case I get close enough...I'm considering trying to hit one with my car. (kidding...sort of)
  10. I'm old...so Grunting and Rattling are a regular part of every day for me. But yes this does work...provided you're at the right time in the season, during the Rut. I no longer Bow Hunt...but this can work well for you if you do.
  11. Yeah, small game is great for teaching. Always plenty of action and when they mess up...you don't have to watch in disappointment as that flag heads off into the distance. All you need to do is send them around the tree so the Bushy Tail shows up on your side.
  12. I take kids out into the woods all the time. ??? LOL...ok that just sounds creepy. But if I added that I also have a gun with me, it sounds even worse! But seriously, I do enjoy teaching kids how to hunt, read a trail, dress a kill. Both my daughters can shoot very well, using a variety of weapons. They're just busy being teenagers and aren't as interested in it as I am.
  13. Down in Westchester County, they arrested a letter carrier for doing this same thing. She would take the coupon's, rebates, whatever and use them for herself. After a very short time, she was up in the tens of thousands of dollars that they could attribute to her stealing.
  14. Thanks Guys, but yes I'm ok. There was a rack of gumball machines which I was able to use to break my fall.
  15. I only hunt on State Land...like others its my only option. I've seen deer...not just tracks. Almost took a huge buck last year...but I'm actually glad I spooked him before I could shoot. Would have taken me forever to drag the big sucker back to the car.
  16. I was out riding a horse, fell off and was nearly killed. Thankfully, the Wal-Mart Manager saw me and came right over to unplug it.
  17. Same here Doc...I'll be hunting with the same crap I have been using for the last 10 or so years. The ammo is still good, and the weapon is perfect. About the only new bit of equipment this year is a pair of camo denim pants and the edge I have on my Buck knife.
  18. The handle is taken from the software I helped create, although the name is now different. I created the email account about 18 years ago for SPAM mail...and have just kept it. No peep on the rear site...it's flat. (Mossberg 500)
  19. My Mossberg came equipped with a front sight. No real point in shooting a slug unless there's a Deer in front of me.
  20. I'm on the edge of the East Branch Res in Putnam County...they actually stock it with Walleye every year. Have caught a few, and they're great.
  21. Worse than that...the local res levels have been very low, can't even use a boat. Nearly $40 bucks and was only able to fish 3 times due to the water level dropping out right after the season began.
  22. How about Forest Fever, or we could say that we're Wood Lusting. I'm sure someone will come up with something.
  23. Hah! Least I don't feel so bad about it now. I'm the same way...already took the .22 Mag out...just to look at it. Getting anxious now that I know I can use it 'before Deer Season' too. It makes those long shots at the Bushy Tails all that much easier. Been trolling around this site and the Bark at the Moon site as soon as it became September.
