  1. That tenzing sure looks nice. think I'll go with the small chair/seat for now. I used to stand for night sets also but its just easier for me to hold steadier after dark with a bipod and setting down. Probably because I am no spring chicken anymore lol. My buddy would hook his alpha dog up to his back pack and off to the next setup. It would hold a couple boxes of ammo, his jacket. had the kickstand so he could set out off the hedgerow. Looked like an awesome setup for predator hunting. Nice being hands free when scanning fields on the run.
  2. I thought about that too, that probably is the cheaper way to go about it, ill just have to get a taller set of bipods then. Was also thinking of taking my turkey vest and sewing on some straps that attach from the ass cushion to the back of the vest. Anything i think would help vs just sitting against nothing, that was brutal in a couple setups, where trees dont exist..
  3. Anyone have info on back packs available with kickstand. Would be used for Predator Hunting. Looking to pick one up but i cant afford the 300$ Tenzing this year, hopefully next ..They are sweet but i have kids and a family to support lol. Are there any decent lower priced packs with kickstands? Thanks in advance..
  4. The used vortex viper deal is on, I intend to meet the guy this weekend or next when he is in town again. Even for next years coyote setup i will indeed keep this vortex with illuminated reticles in mind. After getting back out after yotes last weekend for the first time in quite awhile and connecting, I'm totally hooked again. Between 4 of us we took 4 coyotes , 3 greys and a red
  5. If this deal fall through on the used one, i will be considering something like yours. its in my budget as you said, im not sure how id like the illuminated dot. is it something you can turn on or off as needed?
  6. I considered one of the ATN setups also. But I'd rather hear the pros and cons from someone who has used them the same way id use it. before i buy one lol
  7. Just talked to a friend, who's buddy is selling a vortex viper 6-20x44 for a very good price, hardly used. Just waiting to hear back.
  8. I plan to have another setup for coyotes next year. Using my step sons 243 with leupold Rifleman 4-12x40 Is a nice setup for after dark. How clear is the your Hog Hunter after dark, with a red light? I like that Crossfire range of scopes for a coyote gun if there optics are clear enough in low light.. and ranges would be 3-400 max
  9. Some day i would like to have a VX 2 or 3 or similar but the kids consume my moneys now. Aren"t the Crossfires more than the Diamondbacks? I was considering a Crossfire II in 4-16x44 or equivalent in Nikon.
  10. I wanted to test the waters and spin dials with this setup. It would be a first for me, and that is the intentions here with this gun.. Also, would not be shooting this a lot, only once in a great while. The christmas tree reticle or other long range reticles would be good, i just don't want the "bubbles" on this setup. Id rather have clarity for longer ranges, Ill take good glass over high power as well. I like the vortex with 30mm+ tubes.. Distance wise would be 4-500 yards to start. As i haven't shot that far yet, and eventually as my skills hopefully get better i can push the range out further. And if need be pick up a better scope down the road.. . I dont have any other access to property with much further distances than 500ish right now.. Im just on somewhat of a budget, and just getting excited to shoot this gun.. lol Can always put this scope on another gun as funds become more available and i can pick up something better.
  11. I'm looking to purchase a decent scope this winter/spring for my 6.5 CM .. the budget is around 300$ +- a few. What is everyone's opinions on brands and models? I own several Nikon(Prostaffs, and Buckmaster) and recently a Leupold Rifleman, and both brands seem to be of good quality. I was considering possibly a Vortex Crossfire II for this gun. I want good glass for Long range shooting, and possibly night time hunting with the Red light. And will come back to Zero each time.. No BDC reticles. Either standard Duplex or Mil-Dot. Preferably available through Amazon, since gift cards will be incorporated, Thanks.
  12. I have the XDS in .45 for about 4 years now and love it, packs a punch but is small and compact. And not hard to handle. I love this gun and is my go to for CC.
  13. Beautiful pup! One day i will have one or 2 myself! Congrats on the beauty of an addition
  14. I broadcast my beans, it works well, just seed a little heavy is all. You cant beat the power of soybeans. The leaves for summer/fall forage. and the pods for winter feed source. They are a magnet! That being said, it depends on deer density and if there is other AG soybeans around. What kinds were you considering? And when do you most want to utilize them? Early season vs Late? With the size of you plot, You might want to fence them. I would believe they will get hammered, a handful of deer could wipe that plot out quick once found. Let alone several dozen.. If it were me i would fence them(130$ on amazon) then pull the fence shortly before you are ready to hunt. If you put the fence up to late, after they have nipped them off, if they do come back it will stunt them a month or more.. You can also plant early maturing beans, then as leaves just start to yellow broadcast a brassica blend into them August or cereal grains in early September. For a double crop. I love soybeans, my deer numbers are decent and they can wipe out an acre fast, Aslo, you have to watch for woodchucks!!! they will wipe your plot out as fast or quicker than a deer can. They are the worse with soybean planting..
  15. I figured it couldnt be too bad, soil never exposed, always something growing and brush hogged every few years. Every few years the farmer plants corn on the other side of where this is, over the property line. but all the same "field".. Then it is oats or some grain maybe clover once in awhile in rotation. But in the last 6 years or so, he has done corn twice. I'm mainly focusing on a screen for visual purposes but am going to incorporate some summer/late season deer and bird foods.. this will bud up to an existing wheat, clover, chicory alfalfa plot. Excited to see how it turns out this summer
  16. I miss getting pics of deer with head gear! lol Nice pic Jerry
  17. WNYBH i wish you were searching a couple months ago, lol. I gave away 3 sets of harrow drags like in your picture and a a set of pull behind disks. I came across a guy scrapping it all on craigslist, gave him 150$ for everything. Kept the good 8" double gang of disks and the best harrow drag, and the single 4" for my no till planter and gave away the rest.. Ill check next time i go to camp, but i think it all has been claimed for..
  18. I havent taken a soil test in years. Mainly because I am planting the same fields every year, incoprating crop rotations as well as organic matters. So the soil should be fairly healthy, especially from where it started 15 years ago. It maybe a bit low on the PH scale but it gets a heavy crop rotation and sometime double and triple cropped. Im cheap and wont pay the high fertilizer price, and incorporate Lime only every so often. Try to use my extra money on family needs. I do have a new plot, I want to get a test done at some point. Its been golden rod for a decade or two. And sits just down hill from what was a small mature spruce plantation(clearcut in April 2017).
  19. I love the Milwaukee.. but for the price my Bosch has treated me very well. Amazing battery life. We use Dewalt at work for our handheld needs, but i like my Bosch at home better.
  20. Even if our spacing is not perfect with each pass, which as long as they dont bind up when the impeller picks the seed and or it drops down the tube, there shuoldnt be an issue.. At least we will have a "Row Crop" which i think is way cool, rather than a broadcasting. Not knocking the broadcasting but, there is something about planting seeds in rows vs scatter IMO lol
  21. I have not, but i talked to someone who has and was very un happy with the quality in the DEC fruit trees last year. Not sure if they will be the same this year or not.. But I plan to pick up a few in one or two of their package deals. You should definitely at least tube them, and use a steel stake of some sort, and if possible fence them in. Last year the deer tore my tubes out of the ground and away from the stakes during the winter, and ate most trees to the ground. So i would reccomend a small fence around each if possible. I know i will be.
  22. Congrats, looks good man! Keep us posted. Sounds like you shouldn't have an issue putting your hands on some nice headgear with your mindset and whats already in the area! From the pics it looks like your plot projects will be fun to tackle and not too much of a hassle for you.. soil depending anyways. We will be searching for a new home soon as well, hoping to have some land attached too..
  23. It was trial and error at first because we only had a couple of bicycle gear "sets" to work with. Never realized how many different gears and chains there are on your everyday huffys and such.. ITs unreal. Trying to stay cheap as possible on the build. but if you change sprocket sizes(teeth) you can change your spacing out closer/further. To meter and drop seed, if you look at the 2nd pic, there are water pump impellers(the black in between the white spaces) that catch and drop the seed. As the sprocket turns with the chain which is driven by the disks. It rotates the pvc shaft that holds these impellers on them and the seed drops in the "slots" of each imppeller as it turns then drops down the seed tubes when its facing downwards (6oclock) as it rotates... MY buddy likes it setup the way it is, but id rather have less teeth on the top sprocket for more rotations(closer seed spacing) He believes in a big bushier Soy bean plant, where i like more plants tighter spaced(like farmers plant). Not sure which is best, but i want pods more than leaves It drops a seed every 10" the way it is here, roughly.
  24. It worked well, the pvc seed tube broke when it found a taller rock. So we switched it over to garden hose for the tube. With the dead standing vegetation we are "dropping seed into, the discs doesnt really need to cut very deep, just enough to drop and hold a seed. Then the Roller puts downward pressure on the disks b/c we put the pulling pint over the top of the seed hopper. So the combo of the roller and dead veg. and good rain. Results are very good. Trying to build another with one of the pull behind setups for this coming spring.
  25. Ive always wanted to try liver and onions, as ill try anything once.. lol
