  1. Pulled all of mine out the woods this week. What a week to choose to walk the snow and cold! that was brutal lol. I left 2 out, that are on diminished winter plots. Not a ton of sign like usual. Left em anyways. They were all on the neighbors, in a hay field that never got its 2nd cut and in a plowed under and disked in soybean field. Between the 2 fields side by side there had to be 40 deer or more. Couple slammers, all out at 345pm and in plain view from 2 roads.
  2. I talked to a couple buddies that hunt them whenever they can. They both have the Alpha Dog and it works for them.
  3. Been told White Pine works well for thermal cover. Especially in native grasses and such. Clumps or patches of them. 3 or 4 per "patch". Im new to it and have not seen the results yet. but I know ive seen deer bed on our properties under a couple White pines, Hemlock or Cedars.
  4. The same goes with my method of planting food plots. Leave a dead "layer or mat" of vegetation. It acts as a barrier from the harsh sun rays and keeps moisture in when they get watered or rained on! I like that! Good post man!
  5. 2 of my buddies are pretty big into to yote hunting and are very successful. I pick their brains on everything but its nice to get some other input like all of you have helped. They both recommended wicked lights or predator tactics.
  6. The price of the Alpha Dog is closer to what id like to spend. I was a little concerned with Primos electronic products if they were anything like their cameras. I never had much luck with them. But if you stand by yours for the money invested I may follow suit for a dual speaker setup.
  7. Thank you, I greatly appreciate your offer sir. If you are looking to part ways with it I would gladly enjoy it. I like tinkering with stuff. That would be awesome. Though i will still probably pick up my own as well.
  8. I kinda figured this leading in, but i cant drop a few hundred bucks right now. I bought 4 new guns this fall/winter. extra cash at the moment is not so plentiful lol. Been cruising through them on ebay. I have a wicked head lamp and a wicked scope mounted light. Just need some Tunes. I was thinking if its like anything else, a few successful hunts in and ill be upgrading everything. But im fine with that..
  9. Im looking at a red led remote so I can tell what im playing. Do you think this is worth the extra price? to make sure I play the right tune and not the wrong one on accident. I suppose I can do my best to memorize which button produces which tune? Just seems much easier to see the red display on a remote.
  10. For the Predator hunters, I'm looking to purchase an electronic caller for my night time sits. Mainly coyote hunting. Im getting back into it again and am tired of blowing on mouth calls. What do you recommend without breaking the bank.. I Have seen a couple of fox pro calls for around 100$ .. I don't want to spend too much more than that this year because I wont get out a whole lot. Cheaper would be even better. My kids do not enjoy that thing called sleep lol Thanks in advance.
  11. This is the best time to have cams out! bucks bachelored up and sparring in and around food plots. Seek your survivors and potentials for next year. Makes for great photos!
  12. Plant them first week of September. Just make sure you get forage oat and or winter wheat. Regular oats rot after frost.
  13. Don't give up goos.. Do a blend for next year, Turnips, Radish and maybe Rutabaga... clovers and grains also if youd like. give them something you know they like and they'll consume it. Same thing happened when i first tried radish instead of turnip. They didnt touch a thing, waste of 1.5 acres. Following year i put them in a blend and they ate everything, tops in fall and bulbs after cold weather and snow set in. It just may take a year or 3. Which kind of sucks. If you have the size, Soybeans are great too.
  14. I'a a Mathews fan as well. I dont typically rule out any other bows, but a very good friend of mine is a Mathews dealer. That being said, when it comes to buying a high quality top end bow.. I get the best deals from him. Have shot a few bowtechs and hoyts along the way, and i keep coming back to the solocam z7 ive owned since 2011, will never get rid of it.. I love that bow. Had the Outback and the FX before that. As long as i can still get the deal, that Triax looks pretty good. Would love to shoot it one of these days. Ive never owned a dual cam bow, so it will be a bit different Im sure, compared to the forgiving solcams.. IN my own personal preference I stay away from department store bows. Only for the reason that i do not know who set the bow up and if they know the correct way to do things. Plus a thousand people put their hands on these bows..
  15. goos.. It may take a year or 2 for your deer to eat them if they have never had them before. OR if there is alot of Ag around you. IdK why some herds do not eat them in heavy Ag areas vs others. Even if the Ag has been plowed under. my property in 8F and the other in 8P are like night and day when it comes to plots and preference to deer..
  16. I keep telling myself that! Shes a great women no doubt, be lost without her! Thanks guys. Shes always got to one up me! lol
  17. Wife and I agreed to not get each other anything. and spend our money on the 3 kids. So i ended up buying her a winter hat and gloves, and a 30x40 canvas of our last Professional Family picture taken. Then made her a bath tub shelf where she can watch her tablet/Phone, read and drink her wine or Beer. Thought i had her beat for once!!! NOT! She bought me a Savage Axis chambered in 6.5 C'more. I always lose lol
  18. Vacuum seal and freeze until ready to use. Helps save germination
  19. I have similar projects i Would like to tackle as well. I started 2 winters ago, I didn't get anything done last year. But hope to get some done this year. Especially for winter browse. My 3.5 acres of plots are wiped out already. When i start i will keep a log as well. If i can remember. lol. I have a very young growing family so it shard to get out and do much anything while they are so young..
  20. I haven't noticed any browse on Ash buds over the years.. But at my place they love Poplar suckers/shoots. I plan to make some "Mineral Stumps" with those. I have a mess of poplar/Maple. Plan to thin the poplar this winter and feed the deers.
  21. Whitetail Adrenaline is kind of neat. Mostly All public land. But the way they do some of their hunts I'm not a huge fan of. But some of their episodes and stories are very neat. Im not sure if you can find it on YouTube or not .. but I like watching Phase 13 by the Drurys. I like shows that do the habitat work, hunt and explain why they do what they do. Of course if we had their money we could do whatever we liked as well but.. still nice to follow ideas.. Heartland Bowhunter, Mossy Oak Gamekeepers, NWTF Save the habitat Save the hunt, Maximum Outdoors Tv, Open Season Tv, Wallhanger TV, MAnagement Advantage.. MAny more but those were some of the favs.. If you can find them on Youtube.. I recently had Directv disconnected after 12 years of service. and cant remember all of the shows i really enjoyed following. I surely miss it, but I cant stand paying that high price to watch TV per month. Trying to remember the shows so i can search for them as well..
  22. Not sure of too many state lands .. but i would say Hit Tor, Urbana or Pig Tail hollow would be your best bets. They are state forests in big buck producing areas.. (Northern Steuben County) But any state land in and around the Finger Lakes and towards Batavia
  23. If its anything like the Swain Bowhunters festival.. Im in!
  24. Planted crabapples and deer pears almost 2 years ago, I got these from nativ nursery. They are the first trees I've ever purchased. The majority are doing very well. But still have several years before producing fruit.
  25. I bought a single shot Rossi 410 / 22 combo, separate barrels for i think 119$. So my stepson could shoot, he was 8 when i bought it. hes 12 now. Tiny light weight gun. If your looking for a "very" beginner gun.
