  1. Lots of that is probably true... although I would say that most hunters today make way more money proportional to their parents back in the day who somehow still found the time and money to hunt... I think the money has more to do with hunters believing they have to "Cabela" up to enjoy hunting... my dad wore Kmart packboots, cotton long underwear, jeans, and a wool jacket... and carried a Sears & Roebuck 12 gauge that he bought at a garage sale for $25... he enjoyed hunting just as much as the "Cabela Catalog Models" you see hunting today...It's more of a different mind set today. The reality is.. if you REALLY want to hunt.. you'll find an inexpensive way to get out and do it... if thats what you have to do.
  2. I think I have mentioned this before, but clubs like P&Y, B&C and the State Record Books were never intended as a glorification of trophy hunting... they are merely a record of exceptional bucks taken all over the world for deer hunting enthusiasts like you and me to enjoy for generation to come.. hunters themselves have created the glorification by thinking that recording these bucks has anything to do with their personal hunting prowess. Bucks like the Jordan, Hanson, and King Bucks are exceptional in the whitetail world.. the hunters not necessarily so exceptional. It has never been about the hunter or any kind of competition as far as the clubs are concerned... simply a record of exceptional bucks for all to see. Hunter have created the sensationalism and glorification of trophy hunting.
  3. I have forgotten to pack a good cigar ... I hate when that happens!!
  4. Was like that here in Madison when I got mine 20 odd years ago... they have eased up quite a bit since then... not that I really will carry all that much, but I like having the option.
  5. I have always used Lehigh valley... for cleaning and lubing patches... allowed me to load shot after shot easily without cleaning in between... I use a similar mixture now of Murphy's oil soap and denatured alcohol which keeps my barrel spotless... I have been doing it for about 15 years with no problems.
  6. I must say that it is entirely possible that the panel comes up with the original determination that the point in question is of a common base, which may still keep the King buck from the world record. Whatever happens.. it will be final and the controversy will be over. The other point I would like to make is that everyone talks about "the well respected scorers" that help us get to this panel scoring, but Jack Reneau is as well respected as any scorer for B&C... thats why he heads up the organization... how people have portrayed him over this ordeal is strictly subject to their position on the King buck... I can tell you that Jack has scored more animals than many of the well respected scorers put together.. just something to keep in mind. I can also assure you that he has no personal agenda when it somes to a potential world record being entered into the record book... plus he was not the only person for B&C that made the original determination... the buck was examined by 3 other well respected measurers... that came to the same determination. All that said.. it still will be exciting entertaining a new world record typical whitetail.
  7. Yeah I heard about it and talked to some of the people involved... as for the scorers fired.. they were let go because of how they handled their opposition.. not because they had a difference of opinion... they took it upon themselves to circumvent club protocol about how to handle a potential world record. It will be nice to see how this plays out... a new world record would be exciting...
  8. Coming out of the woods in Colorado... I was on the back side of a mountain about 2-3 miles from the truck if I walked the bottom edge... there was snow on and although it was dark you could see sillouettes quit well.. as i entered a hemlock stand coming around the mountain I suddenly was surrounded by a herd of elk sillouettes some less than 50 yards from me... I have to admit all of this made me a bit nervous... because I'm accustomed to the ADK's that doesn't have herds of 700 lb elk wandering around at night... I made my way quickly past the herd, but had a way to go before getting to the truck... I just don't like being surrounded by animals twice as big as me after dark not knowing enough about them to know what they might do with a stranger interrupting the herd at night.
  9. I think that the diminishing availablity to hunting land is one of the reasons for hunter decline... I can think of numerous places I hunted as a kid that are either a neighborhood now or has been bought up and posted by new owners... I also know many EX hunters that lost their favorite hunting spot and just never took the time to find a new spot... many farmers that years ago let hunters use their property for deer hunting have stopped or limited hunting because of past abuse or overuse of their property. Not sure what the answer is, but I bet lots of those ex-hunters would probably start again if they had a solid hunting spot to hunt. When I was offered the opportunity to lease property I immediately determined how many fellas could hunt comfortably on the acreage available and called that many friends that I knew didn't have solid hunting spots and gave them the opportunity have a place that they could count on to hunt... it definitely rekindled the fire under many of their butts to get out and enjoy hunting again.
  10. Here is what you can do with a pile of antlers... best piece of art I've ever seen... done by a friend of mine Tom Yacovella
  11. I think you need a tent to consider it camping... without the tent it's just loitering..LOL
  12. Hmm.. you might want to check your facts on the number of teachers convicted of pedophelia in America.
  13. Ryan keeps giving numbers and facts to prove his position and the libs keep calling him a liar, but have yet to give any proof of why he is wrong... Ryan, numbers and facts... libs, crying and stomping their feet. Good platform!
  14. Nice camp Noah.. that looks like camping to me!
  15. Here we go again! Early opens mouth, inserts foot...LOL... early you must also hate homesexuals for their acts of pedophilia... you must have heard of the North American Man/Boy Love Association (NAMBLA)... How could homesexuals let that happen?? You must be outraged by that as well!! Don't you think that homosexuals are an evil cult?? Like I said before, you really need to read your posts before you click the post button.
  16. You aren't the first guy that's told me that this year... have heard from other that they have seen scraps as well...
  17. I didn't take it personally, I do both kinds of "camping". But if we're going to split hairs about camping then my definition of hunting is not waiting in a treestand for an animal to show up.. but actually going out and looking for one... seems like a similar analogy. Tracking a deer for miles or even days takes a little more effort.. the other is just relaxing until something happens and is not actually "hunting". If you don't agree then maybe you should rethink your camping definition.
  18. No bunching here... mine was a joke too..
  19. Must be a bitch not being able to tell the true story about your deer to a large group of hunters... and having to make up the lie you're going to tell while you're gutting it in the woods so that your buddies don't think you're a DB for having to cheat to kill a deer... oh well.. it takes all kinds... good for you Paula... never apologize for being right or telling the truth.
  20. Sorry I didn't know Long Island belonged to you.. I'll take the post down.
  21. I hear ya... you do have to admit though.. take away the Obama part and the rest is true... those are actual executive orders passed on by Dem & Rep presidents over the years.. that is still scary!
  22. Good Lookin' kid! I believe this is where the joke about "when he was born the doctor slapped his mother" came from...
  23. Great to have deer around that can read and do what you tell them!!..LOL
