I have a good story for ya... I have a friend who at 17 took his 4-wheel drive pickup with a few friends to an out of the way place in NY to do some 4wheellin.... they decided to try and cross what they thought was a shallow pond... needless to say the truck would rather float than stay on the bottom and was swept out to deeper water where it eventually sank... little did they know... the pond was a federally protected wetland and they were arrested, charged and convicted of felony trespass for driving the truck in the pond... now my friend cannot legally own a gun.. although I would agree this was a tough lesson to learn... I have a hard time with losing your gun rights for that kind of thing.. especially at 17... -
And I would be one of those traditionalists... although I always want my kids to have things better than me... I want to do it by showing them how not to make the mistakes I have made... probably the biggest problem with parenting now days is that parents try to be their kids friend instead of their parent... now that my kids are in their 20's and on their own... I can be their friend knowing they are on their way to being productive, responsible adults... and they are very appreciative for their mother and I helping them get there.

fatal shooting in st lawrence county last evening.
nyantler replied to bubba's topic in Deer Hunting
Just a thought... turkey hunting accidents should be an issue as well... many turkey hunters have fallen victim to "accidental" shootings in NY... and 100% of those hunters were not wearing BO.. yet nobody is calling for mandatory BO for turkey hunters... we just ask that hunters be more careful about identifying their target.. why deer hunting and not turkey hunting BO mandate? My point is we like to cherry pick when it comes to these types of issues... if we're talking about BO being the end all be all for hunter safety.. then maybe it should apply to ALL hunting... we all know that wearing BO voluntarily might be a good idea but it is not the problem nor is it the real solution... -

President's Hit Squad strikes again!
nyantler replied to nyslowhand's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Isn't this where some idiot posts... "How about those Giants"? God forbid someone has an opinion about the President and the Navy Seals on a thread called... "President's Hit Squad strikes again!"... I'm sure virgil would have jumped on a "George Bush gets Suddam Hussein" thread... but thats ok... liberals are exempt from hypocracy. -
My post wasn't meant for you Larry... it was what Ole' Sharp shooter would say... I alwayss understand your posts, but his I haven't been able to entirely decipher yet... I will keep referencing the Rosetta Stone until I can figure out his language

Anyone remember how mild it was in 1966 about this time... just before the blizzard? I remember working in shorts and a t-shirt back in the mid 80's in January.. it was around 70 degrees for a week.

It wasn't meant to be an attack on anyone or the least bit confrontational.. just a statement of truth not an assumption... don't tell me that you believe there are no weak or stupid people in the world.. who actually never converse because of how some people will view them face to face... here everyone gets a voice... whether you or I like it or not... that is a good thing... you assumed that I was bashing people on the forum when in fact I was making the point that everyone gets a chance to speak here regardless of how you may be perceived by others.. so take your own advice and try not ASSUME what you think someone means based on the way your mind decides to interpret what you think you have read. That is really how the conflicts begin.

sometimes it only takes a "sharp shooter" to get the ball rolling

I think the most interesting part of any forum is the personality conflicts... real people saying what they wouldn't say to someones face... it lets some of the weak ones get to say what they feel... it lets stupid ones get in the conversation without being interrupted... it takes all kinds to make up a good forum in my opinion and I think this is a good forum... conflicts or no conflicts I think in person we would all get along just fine... well, for a few hours anyway.. then I'm sure some of you would get on my nerves and I on yours...lol

Yes you are probably right... I tend to get a bit philosphical about things... and I told my dad that I would never do that when I was his age..lol... sometimes I sound just like him... it's the curse.
