Thats a gloomier view than I have about hunting... none of what you've descibed is anything that I experience .. yes.. I know much of it does exist.. but for me and the fellas I hunt with not much has changed in the last 40 years... if anything we kill more deer and have more fun doing it than when I was younger... our sons are all at camp with us now and we are watching them have the same kind of fun we had. I do understand how you feel about the perversion of success... hurry up and go attitude.. and access to hunting land.. but I believe that hunters are the ones that will be the downfall of their own sport. Its all about attitude and willingness to keep tradition alive. I can't be positive but I think that for my kids and the kids of my friends at hunting camp... not much will change other than the oldtimers (us) will have passed on.. and they'll be raising a glass in memory of us when they have a successful hunt... just as we did for our fathers before us. There will be concerns about access maybe, costs of licenses, etc... but hopefully not enough concern to keep the future generation from enjoying hunting the way I do. If I could be there 50 years from now... I would be... enjoying it just as I do now.

It's a good detector... but Garret has simplified things a lot... many detectors have to be ground balanced before using it in an area... garret does it automatically... the display is simple to understand as well... almost tells you what your digging before you dig it.... the whites and most other detectors work on a number system display from 0-100 .. where ranges of numbers depict different metals.. there is a pretty good learning curve with these types of detectors... the Ace 250 is a great starter detector.. the 350 is good too, but doesn't do anything more than the 250 to justify the extra cost.

That is what I said... I suppose I should have worded it differently, I thought most would get the point... some did.. others just like finding something to get all worked up about. I would like to say that I will choose my words more wizely from now on, but.. I won't.
-
I'm with ya there.. I shoot my bow straigher than my pistol too.
-
Minelabs are great metal detectors, but the learning curve is huge... Garrett makes a simple easy to use detector that finds stuff just as well as any detector... I paid for my Ace 250 in the first couple months I owned it just in loose change that I found at local parks while trying to learn my detector...

I grew up playing the mandolin.. so bluegrass is my favorite... but I sang in a rock band in the 70's... and who doesn't like a little Dean Martin?
-
Yeah.. amazing and kind of scary at the same time.

Its something that google does when you use their adsense... it can tell what the content of the page is and produces ads on that page that are related.
-
I ain't got no reason to learn me no language... besides I seen lotsa guys talkin' on hear that isn't correct..
-
Thats what I thought too...
-
Farther or straighter? I'm pretty sure you can't shoot a compound farther.
-
not quite as deep as scuba deep...lol... I really want it so I don't have to stop in the rain!!
-
In my opinion the Garrett Ace 250 is the best detector to start with... easy to use but still has all the bells and whistles.. thats what I started with and have never been disappointed.. I'm ready to upgrade to the Garrett AT Pro... just for underwater capability.

Not you too! I was making a point... of all people I thought you would have gotten it...I'm pretty sure that I don't have to let someone shoot a crossbow at me to get the point across... I'm not trying to change anyones mind.. its just about offering another side of the arguement for conversation... usually for those that might be on the fence and haven't thought it through like some of us already have.
-
I like my colors.. you don't have to.
-
What kind of detector do you have?
-
There is an old saying... "Do what you want, you will anyways".. you're gonna see it anyway you want.. I see it differently.. Go cry to somebody else and scold someone that cares... I don't.
-
What? You never saw a guy grab an arrow out of the air fired by a bow? Lighten up Francis... I was making a point and a good one at that... the reality is I couldn't care less what you think of my opinion.. thats why it's my opinion and not yours... I'm sure the kids are a bit more intelligent and will get the point that was being made without having to shoot each other up with arrows and the adults I'm sure will also.. but you obviously are having a bit of trouble... maybe you have a bit more growing up to do. The Show was called Exploring History's Treasures... he did 3 different series... I don't remember the names of them all.. one was on the march to fort bull in Rome NY.. french & indian war time. Another was about finding an old wealthy resort town (cellar holes).. I don't remember what the third series was... we're working on putting another show together now... have to see where that goes.

I actually thought of all those things.. but decided that none of them kept the weapon from working... except the trigger which can be found on a gun, a bow release and a crossbow. All the things you mentioned that can be found on a crossbow are absolutely worthless without the string and the arrow... and the only other weapons that have that in common with the crossbow are the other archery related weapons. How we get to the point where the arrow takes flight doesn't really matter... what matters is that it is an arrow propelled by a string that penetrates using a cutting edge to cause sufficient bleeding to kill an animal... a gun uses a blunt projectile that uses shocking power to deliver the trauma sufficient to kill the animal... there is nothing at all similar about the power of a gun vs a crossbow... where a crossbow and other archery equipment offer similar range and impact... I am convinced that your rifle and a crossbow are so much NOT alike that I would let you shoot a crossbow at me from 150 yards, I would not do the same with a rifle.

I'm sure donated venison is preferable over the local dumpster for many of the homeless that get feed with the donations... anyone that thinks its important to micro-manage and scrutinize the venison donation drive that feeds the hungary has way too much time on their hands and should mind their own business and let the hungry eat. They never seem to have a problem with the preservative filled cans of spaghetti-O's being donated during a can drive for the hungry... like I said ...these goofballs need to shut up and let the hungry eat.

Although I just started a few years ago..It is my favorite of all my hobbies... I am a history buff so finding old stuff is exciting to me... I do mostly old old cellar holes and 19th century houses... I have found old coins in parks and on beaches as well... I have found numerous items from the 1800's... my oldest find so far is a 1798 silver 2 reale coin... I also have found an 1820 large cent... a civil war union eagle breast plate and half of a powder flask... an 1830 congressional campaign button... and much more. I have tubs full of old artifacts from the 19th century...and early 20th century. Last spring and summer I did so much metal detecing that I injured a nerve in my thumb from digging... took months to heal.. So, I just dug with my left hand..lol I spend a lot of time researching old maps to find cellar holes... I am fortunate to have a close friend that has been metal detecting for over 35 years... he has a website http://www.metal-det...f-the-east.com/... he also has DVDs of his TV show on the site... we have a bunch of hunts planned for the spring and summer in some really historic areas of PA... and a copy colonial era sites as well in NY. 1st pic is the 1798 2 reale coin 2nd is a large stearling silver mexican ring 3rd is a 1913 Canadian silver quarter

I love it.. its addicting... I have brought it hunting with me in case I run across a cellar hole while wandering through the woods... I've found tons of cool stuff.
